pressure washer chemicals image

We recently acquired an older (10+ years) swingset/fort thing. It's pretty rough, but still works. My biggest issue is that there seems to be a layer on the wood, but I'm not sure what it is. I don't know if the wood is pressure treated. When the wood gets wet, this layer seems to come off and make my daughter's clothing all dirty. What should I use (chemicals/pressure washer/scrubbing) to clean that awful layer off? Any advice would help. Thank you!
Answer
Chances are the wood is treated, that's good...you stated something coming off the wood, I would guess it is mold or mildew. I would pressure wash it to get as much as i could off(please be careful with the pressure washer at 2500psi you can cut Thur wood and other things,OK? then i would use a bleach& water mix about half&half in a garden sprayer, wearing very old clothes spray the entire set ,this should kill anything growing on it, let the mixture sit for a short time about 5min and wash again, make sure your childern&pets are out of the way, wash your garden sprayer very good hose too ,bleach will eat thru rubber washers, let swing set dry,and seal it with U.V. protected sealer this will help with sun damage.they also make an aditive to prevent mold&mild add to sealent,if you can........hope this helps you!!!....it probily would'nt hurt to hose down the entire area after you bleach

What chemicals can be used to clean outdoor pressure treated wood prior to staining?

Essentially I got a fence that I want to stain. I was told I can use bleach to clean the wood? What types of safe chemicals can I use? I don't have a pressure washer.
