My Maytag stackable washer will not fill or agitate but when you move the switch to spin it will spin, is ther?

I have a Maytag stackable washer and dryer. When you set the washer to fill it does not fill or go through the wash cycle. When you move to knob through the cycle it starts at the spin cycle but still no water or aggitation. Are there any fuses or safety switches that could be the problem?
Thank you, we did check the water source and replaced the water inlet valve. I will let my husband know to check the pressure switch. Unfortunately, where we live it is difficult to get a repair man as it is in a rural area a ways from town. Thank you both for your advice.

Answer
Either your inlet valve has failed or the water is turned off. The inlet valve is the thing that the hoses connect to on the back. It's also possible that the pressure (water level) switch is bad or the hose to it is blocked.

what would make the washer not fill up with water properly?

pintzi

I suspect I have this problem. Could it be the water pressure in the house? Mine is low, because house on a high hill.
Or perhaps not drain properly? Could the filling up problem be caused by low water pressure in the house? Thank you!
ALREADY HAD REPAIRMAN HERE BUT HE SAYS NOTHING IS WRONG. Washer new but clothes DO NOT come out clean. wasing on hot, wITH Tide detergent with water softener, proper size load.

Answer
IF your washer is filling with water and starts agitating before you feel there is enough water, AND you have reset the water level switch, replace the switch. Some folks call it the water pressure switch. Same thing.
The next part has 2 important IF's ...
IF, in the past, your washer has filled properly, is still filling with the correct amount of water, but is taking an interminably long time to fill, turn off the water faucets (spigots), remove the hoses at the rear of the washer and clean out the inlet screens that are located just on the inside of the water valves. Use a toothpick and your pinky finger. Pay close attention to the cold water side which will collect sediment much faster.
IF your washer has NEVER filled at a reasonable rate and the screens are clean, yup ... you have low water pressure. And if you have low pressure throughout the house, there just isn't much you can do much about it other than complain to your water company. However, if you're on a well, you're up a creek without a paddle ... and without water.

It's missing the gun assembly. I would like to purchase one, but my budget is limited. I can spend about 25 - 30 US.

Any gun which you can connect to the washer will work equally..

What should I charge per hour for pressure washing?

Danny-Mac

Driveways, sidewalks, exterior, etc...I need to take into account driving time, gas for my car, gas for the pressure washer, and any maintenance costs.

I'm a high school grad looking to make some cash before I head off to college by providing pressure washing services for people in my community.

Answer
I'd call around to some pressure washing companies in the area and ask them how much they would charge to do a driveway. Call 4 or 5 companies and you'll get an idea of what others are charging. Unless you have a lot of experience doing pressure washing, then I'd take the number they're charging and shave like 35% off of it. Most people are weary of someone pressure washing their driveway if they don't have a lot of experience - but if you tell them your story, that you're a high school grad saving up for college, they'll be more willing to do it (knowing it's going to be less than the pros).

You need to figure out your daily expenses divided by how many driveways you would pressure wash per day. That will give you your expense per job. Subtract that from what you'll be charging and you'll get your profit per job. To make your prices somewhat consistent, take what you'll charge for a driveway and divide it by the average square foot for a driveway. That will give you a price per square foot. If you then do sidewalks or something else, you can just measure the square foot of the area you will pressure wash and multiply it by your price per square foot and voila, you've got your job cost. Since you already know what your approximate profit is, you should also be able to calculate those numbers and estimate them too.

Good luck!

I just bought a pressure washer and the motor runs but when I press the trigger on the gun nothing happens. It is an electric 1500psi pressure washer, very cheap. Has anyone come across this problem before?

Answer
CHECK FOR LOW WATER PRESSURE OR RESTRICTED FLOW AT INPUT. THIS WILL CAUSE A FLIMSY HOSE TO COLLAPSE AND CUT OFF THE WATER TO THE MACHINE. WHEN YOU SHUT THE MACHINE DOWN TO TROUBLESHOOT, THE HOSE EXPANDS AND LOOKS GOOD AND FOOLS YOU SO YOU CAN'T FIND THE PROBLEM.

Water Pressure Regulator going bad?

Susan O

About every couple days I turn the shower on or the faucet on and fine no water coming out. If I tap on my water pressure regulator I hear a hiss and the water pressure comes back in full. Why does this happen every couple days? Is there an adjustment or should it be replaced? Thanks

Answer
Sounds like the screen (filter) in your PRV is clogged. You can definitely take it apart and clean or replace parts but it's really not worth doing that unless it's a larger PRV. You can get a new 3/4" PRV for less than a hundred bucks. I say it's not worth it because you can open up a can of worms trying to repair it ie. finding parts, washers bad, bolts hard to remove etc. Next thing you know you have no water or have to bypass the PRV till the parts show up.

A licensed plumber will charge anywhere between $250 to $500 to replace this, that is with him coming out troubleshooting it, going and getting the parts, returning and installing.

You could save money by supplying all the parts yourself but most plumbers won't guarantee parts supplied by the customer.

You could try doing it yourself with a combination of threaded fittings and unions. Just make sure when you order the valve that you order unions with IP threads. Don't use pipe dope on the union gaskets.

How much Horsepower does a Briggs and Stratton Pressure washer have with 8.75 ft/lbs of torque and 190cc?

ricksellsn

The torque values are derived at 3060 RPM's and Horsepower values are derived at 3600 RPM's.

Answer
horsepower is not directly connected to engine size. You would have to find the RPM at which it makes the max torque and use the formula:

hp = (torque(ft/lbs) * RPM) / 5252

EDIT:
in that case, using the formula mentioned, it produces 5.1 hp at 3060 RPM. While I still can't calculate the exact hp at 3600 RPM without the torque value at that RPM, I would imagine it's pretty much the same (probably an additional 0.1 or 0.2 hp).

I used a pressure washer on our back deck and got to close when doing some furniture and the steps and removed to color and left marks all over the deck. Any idea how to fix it? Would bleach work?

Answer
NO to the wire brush ... don't ad a metal to start a reaction on the deck.

give it time in the sun. if you bleach it its going to fade a lot.

you can use a deck cleaner. that will also fade the deck some. We have use a heat gun to get scratches out with very good results. We were shown that technique at a trex factory.
Be careful stay back to not burn the deck.

Last idea you could also through a big party and let every walk on it.

for air compressor tools. when do I really need more than 90psi?

Famous cel

tools that I would likely use. brad, finish, framing nailer. pressure washer, paint spray gun, dusting. inflating tires.

do i need to buy an air compressor more than 100psi? or is 115 recommended.

Answer
The problem is volume of air. A compressor that is 150psi and a 5 gallon resovour has 7.5 gallons of useable psi at 100psi. Get the math? If your using a framing nailer is using .1cuft per shot at 100psi and you have a compressor with 5 gallons at 100psi your going to be turning on your compressor pump every 10th shot. those factors get worse the more use you have. An air rachet uses a lot more volume, a paint sprayer even more. If you use a air sander you use a lot too.

Tankless water heater install - possible DIY job?

pressure washer menards on ... Fj40 brake pressure switch aftermarket
pressure washer menards image

Tiny

I am thinking about placing a new tankless water heater in my house to save some energy and take advantage of the tax credits. I can find good heaters for around a $1000, but am wondering if this could possibly be a DIY install. I have some plumbing experience and follow instructions well, but am wondering if anyone has had any success with this type of project.

If there are any professional plumbers here I would also love your feedback. Considering I have natural gas I am assuming there is no way I could do it myself, but was crossing my fingers I could do it.

Also, if anyone has had one installed professionally, approx how much did it cost you and how long did it take? Thanks a million!

Answer
I installed my own Tankless heater, and will give it a 7 out of 10. The biggest issues i have run into is that gas, water in and water out must all be 3/4 inch. This wasnt a very big issue as I had 3/4 on the ceiling but they reduced it down so i just replaced the 10 or so feet of N.G. pipe to all 3/4 inch. Next is venting. When i got my unit at Menards I was told i could plumb it out the chimney just like our regular tank heater was. WRONG. I was getting backfeed through the furnace, and co2 monitors kept going off. Relized the problem and then vented out the side of the home, no issues since. the system does take a little to get used to such as using small amounts of water for shaving or brushing of teeth, if the faucet isnt opened up enough the system wont detect it, and wont heat, thus you get only cold, however if you multitask when another appliance is using hot water or someone else showering, you dont notice this. We have had out dhishwasher, cloths washer, and both my wife and I showering and never ran out of hot water, yes the pressure was reduced but hot water was perfect. I think the biggest thing is going to be getting pipes line up and soldered. if you can get your main water shut off, and not have that occasiona drip that most lines have, you should be fine. I would suggest that you get those flexible hoses instead of trying to plumb it in with stick copper, get the water heater flex pipes and it will make your life much much easier. If needed i can send photos.

Any help? The pressure wand sprays water out, but water then starts to leak out of the part where the handle connects to the wand shaft. Please help!
And yes, i did go to the website and searches for it, but noting came up.

Answer
I work on pressure washers for a living and see this daily! It's just an "O-Ring" has split and is allowing water to leak out. Find the o-ring that isn't an "O" but more of a "C" and replace it, problem solved! Sears has o-ring kits in the stores with several sizes of o-rings in it. Use the instructions included to select the right ring!

i live in detroit michigan. i need some aluminum tubing i want to make a 16 ft wand for my pressure washer?

inroughdia

i bought some tubing from a hardware store but it burst what kind of tubing do i need ? thickness of wall do i need? would stainless steel be cheaper ...? i need to make the end bend in the shape of a hook for cleaning gutters my pressure washer is 2900 psi ...... no go and amaze me this is why i come here .
meant to say now go and amaze me

Answer
Aluminum cannot handle high pressure all that well as you have seen. It will handle 2900 PSI if the wall thickness is thick enough. My guess is your first tube burst at the bend. Bending the metal will weaken it. Aluminum is not very ductile (bendable) so it tends to fracture easily when it is bent. You will have this problem even with a thicker wall tube.

Stainless steel would be far stronger and with the right wall thickness could easily handle the pressure and bending. The BIG drawbacks are the it is very hard and not easy to bend and also is very heave compared to aluminum. A 16 ft piece of 1/8" wall tubing would weigh more than 40 lbs. Not something you want to lug around all day.

The only thing I know that is light enough and strong enough is composite materials. They cannot be bent after they are laminated up so the bend would have to be part of the manufacturing process. Very, very expensive.

Good luck

Is it a big job to remove and replace the guts of a toilet tank?

pressure washer youtube on pressure washer repair manual pressure washer repair manual part ...
pressure washer youtube image

Jo

This is an old, low toilet. Without replacing it I would like to know if I can remove the tank pieces. I have no knowledge of plumbing at all.

In order to flush the toilet you have to hold the handle down for the entire duration while the water "slowly" flushes the toilet.

The other aggrevation thing is the chain falls off the handle bar and always needs replacing otherwise it gets stuck under the rubber top at the bottom of the tank and then the tank top has to be removed.

Is this a big job, a costly job?

Answer
They sell a plastic wrap kit set at the hardware stores with all the pieces. There is one tricky part. Two bolts hold that tank onto the seat. The nuts are on the underside, you need a "deep well" socket to get those off. The tank comes off. Big beveled rubber grommet washer connects the flush valve to the hole in the sink. Take that off and you unscrew the giant plastic nut. Replace the parts. Now for the tricky part. You have to tighten the nuts back to put enough pressure on the giant rubber grommet. If you tighten one side two much, you can crack the porcelean tank. So, tighten alternating from nut on one side then the other.

Not hard. Good luck.

How do you change the wheels on a Original hybrid 35 longboard?

Google Ans

im new to longboarding but the wheels i got with the board are getting chunked so i would like to get some new wheels but im not sure that if i bought them over the internet that i would know how to change them from my board so if you could explain it to me thhat would be great thanks and if you have any recomendations on what wheels to get id apreciate it thanks

Answer
okay no problem its pretty simple. Take off all the bolts keeping the wheels on, there will be 4. Then take out the bearings in the wheels by using the axles of your trucks to pry them out. This might sound confusing so it might help to look this part up on youtube. Its like you put the wheel back on halfway then turn it sideways and you'll feel the pressure pulling the bearing out.

Once you have all the bearings out, get your new wheels ready to be set up. Put a loose bearing on your axle, then press the wheel on top of it and it will be put in cleanly. Repeat this for all the bearings. Then put your wheels on and tighten them back down with the 4 bolts and you're good to go.

If you have speed rings, use them. They are little washers that help your wheels run smoother by reducing friction. One goes before your put the wheel on, and one after. So 2 per axle. Tighten your wheels enough so there is little to no slop but not too much so as to inhibit them from spinning freely. Good luck!

I also reccomend either purple or orange orangatang 4presidents. great wheels I have both

has anyone ever rented a pressure washer? where did you rent one from and about how much did you pay?

Mono

the home i am renting needs a good cleaning! so i was thinking of doing that this weekend. not sure if i should go to Lowe's or home depot..... thanks for your input!
oh yeah how did it work did you just hook it up to a hose? i have well water does that matter?

Answer
Most rental yards have pressure washers. Its been a long time since I rented one. I would expect to pay $40-50/day. It hooks up to a regular garden hose. The only concern is if your well has enough gallons per minute for the washer to work properly. As a painting contractor I pressure wash many houses and decks every year. My big pressure washer is rated for 4 gallons per minute, my smaller one is 2.5 GPM. Before I hook it up I time how long it take the hose to fill a 5 gallon pail. If it takes longer than a minute I know not to use the bigger machine.
I don't recommend the rotating tip for beginners. Its true that it can do the job faster but it can do lots of damage if you are not careful. Sometimes the rotating feature gets stuck and leaves you with a narrow high pressure stream. Play it safe and use a 25 or 40 degree fan tip. Keep the water moving without stopping in one spot. That can cause damage if the water gouges the wood.
Most of the houses I work on have well water. I find about 1 in 10 don't have enough flow to use my 3500 psi, 4 GPM machine. I have only found 1 where I couldn't use my smaller washer.

I'm looking for a good quality pressure washer for cleaning cars. It needs to be able to draw from a water tank without assistance, and it needs to be reliable. About $200 is my budget, but I'd like to keep it as cheap as possible while still keeping quality.

Answer
For $200 you are not going to get any kind of quality pressure washer.
You need a washer which operates at 1800 PSI or higher pressure output to perform effectively. They start at around $350 - $400 dollars. I do not know of any commercially available pressure washers which will draw from an unpressurized tank - they all are designed to operate from a pressurized hose delivering 3-5 GPM @ 20+ PSI.

Pressure washing a wood deck?

Q. NEVER pressure washed before:

water temp?
angle of wand?
Is a chemical solution part of the process?
How much pressure, in PSI?
Then stain?
Then seal?
Do you sand at all before staining?

Thanks for any tips/hints

Answer
water temp doesn't matter
1st soak all wood to be washed with bleach/wood wash solution, using a garden sprayer (olympic makes a good deck wash, or if you have mildew, use jo-max. both are available at paint retailers)
2nd wash the surfaces. use a tip with the widest fan pattern. move the wand from side to side, and don't stop with the spray in one place, or you will damage the surface. instead,
"feather" by bending your wrist to direct the spray sideways at the end of each pass. as long as you keed the wand moving you'll be ok. practice on a 2 x 6 board, or on the side beams or support posts.
start at 1000-1200 psi. increase the pressure as you get the hang of it, to a setting that works best. some power washers have a detatchable wand so you can put the tip directly on the gun, which is much easier for rails and spindles, .be careful of splash back in corners.
let the wood dry thouroughly, 48 hours at least. staining or sealing is a matter of taste. again, olympic makes great semi transparent and solid stains. but stains can wear off in traffic areas. if you use a semi transparent, next time you would have to strip the entire deck.
if you choose to seal it, DON'T USE THOMPSONS! it contains wax which looks great and repels water wonderfully, for about six months. then it starts to discolor and show wear.
flood co. (www.flood.com) makes a product called CWF that i have found is the best out there. apply in the morning to avoid direct sunlight. use an 18 inch 1/2" nap roller on the deck itself if you have a lot of surface area, and i mini roller on the spindles and rails.
get your products and tips at your local paint store where professional painters go, rather than one of those home centers.
powerwashing this way will prep the wood for application of any product. there shouldn't be any need for sanding. good luck

Need to break my pressure washer pressure ( 3000 psi) into different level 500,1200,1800,2200, 2500,2800 psi?

adhikari_s

I am sending 3000 psi through pipe and need to break and obtain differnt psi strength at different point because I need to test my device in different psi level. Please help me to do so. Do I need to buy differnt psi checking meter or I can use valves at different check point. Kindly help me giving easy way

Answer
Since a pressure washer uses a positive displacement pump you will need to keep a flow of water through the pump.

This is done by installing a recirculating relief valve from the discharge to the inlet side of the pump.

When pressure rises above a preset limit the relief valve opens and returns some of the high pressure water back to the inlet, recirculating.

Most pressure washers come with such a pressure setting device already installed. You either need to adjust it OR it may be damaged and stuck closed.

You may also add a relief valve to the inlet of your device to protect it from over pressure and to allso testing at different pressures. Just let this valve blow off to the ground or a drain...
