what is the best pressure washer?

Q. Looking for a good gas cold water pressure washer for home use.

Answer
There are a couple different types of cold water, gas pressure washers out there. There are direct drive models, and there are belt drive models. The difference is as follows:

Direct Drive- These things are more efficient because they have no moving parts. the shaft from the motor is connected directly to the pump, so no belts or pulleys are required. These units are cheaper because they are simpler to build.

Belt Drive- These units use a belt and pulleys to connect the motor and the pump. This setup uses a few more parts, but is actually preferable to the direct drive units because they last longer. This is because a larger pulley can be used at the pump, causing the pump to run at a lower RPM than the motor. this is less straining on the pump, and will help your unit to last longer. Unfortunately, it is also more expensive.

For home use, I would go with a belt driven unit. If you are using the pressure washer less than 20 hours a week consistently, then it is not worth the added cost to get a belt driven unit. If you do a quick Google search, you will see that most sources recommend 3000 PSI for concrete, and that is more than enough for siding and decks (I'll put a link in my sources to a forum discussion on what pressure is needed for concrete). 3000 PSI is also enough to run a surface cleaner or rotary nozzle if you later decide that you want to speed up that driveway cleaning. I have heard it said that pressure cleans, but flow helps you clean it faster, so make sure that the machine you get has a decent GPM rating. A machine that is like 3000 PSI at 2 Gallons per minute will be perfect for what you need it for.

Note: I would get a machine with a Honda engine. They rarely have to be serviced, and after market parts are abundant online for cheaper repairs.

electric pressure washer fitting broke?

bamafansin

I need to order another fitting for it but don't know the exact name for it. Its the plastic peice that i screw my garden hose into that has a quick disconnect on the other end to connect to the pump.

Answer
Since there are a number of different "quick disconnect" coupling systems used by various manufacturers, you need to start by identifying the manufacturer of the pressure washer, if they provided the fitting with the new system, or the fitting manufacturer if the pressure washer manufacturer did not supply the fitting with the pressure washer. The fitting/coupling will likely have a manufacturers name / mark and model / part number on it.

The pressure washer manufacturer will likely have a web site (which you find by using the brand name to find their main web site) that sells replacement parts, but you will need their model number (or be able to identify the unit visually) in order to choose the right unit from which to choose / identify a component.

The garden hose is on the water "supply side" of the pressure washer, should that come up when trying to identify the components.

How can i advertise pressure washing?

Im 17 i want to make some quick cash by pressure washing cars drivewayas ect what should i do to spred the word flyer in the mailbox ect...

Answer
Silly Goose is right, you need to go door to door. Whenever you do a job, take before and after pictures, and ideally, one that is half clean and half dirty. When you do a couple houses in one neighborhood and have pictures of them before and after, people will see your work, know you did it, and will be more likely to hire you. Pressure washers talk about getting customers in small neighborhoods all of the time because they did one house in a neighborhood. I will put a link in my sources to a forum where pressure washers talk about this kind of stuff. In addition to the simple conversation, people post leads on that forum when someone calls outside of their service area. Hope it helps.

husky pressure washer does not start.has gas ,oil, every thing that should be on is on..?

Clement

it cranks but it will not run.

Answer
Here is the quick way to figure it out. Remove the sparkplug and put a teaspoon of fresh gas into the hole, replace the plug and try to start it. If it starts and continues to run it is probably old gas that is the problem. If it starts and dies within a few seconds you aren't getting gas either to or through the carburetor. Make sure that fuel runs freely out of the fuel line. If it does than the carburetor may need to be cleaned. I have a mower and a generator that will not start on the old gas, they will run once started. I have others that don't seem to care. Try the gas in the sparkplug hole a couple of times, might just do the trick.

Im going to start finishing off my basement. I need to strip the old paint off the basement cement block walls so I can add a waterproofer. What is the best way to get the old paint off? It appears to be a couple layers at least. Ive tried a good paint stripper from Menards but it still isn't coming off that easy. Any suggestions? (It is NOT lead paint)

Im just looking for something that may be quicker....

Answer
I've had pretty good luck with zip strip in the past though I have never tried it on block. I would try that letting it sit for about ten minutes then hit it with a pressure washer.

What is a simple way for me to make quick money?

claudiaisa

I am 17 and just graduated high school. i graduated a year early so i am using this year to try and move out and get a car.I am an artist and i do palm readings & numerology readings. but i am open to any ideas. i have a job at bath and body works but they only give $8 an hour and i only get 10-20 hours a week. any suggestions please help!?!?

Answer
i personally mow lawns during the summer i charge 25 for lawns(mowing edging) and 30 for corner lawns and average about 10 lawns a day.

i also pressure wash which is a really good way to earn money. you can either charge like $11 dollars per hour on what they want you to do or just charge certain amounts for what they want to do. what i do is i call up the best known pressure washer in the phone book ask for thier prices and beat that price by like a couple dollars. it's a full day job, but its worth it.

thats all i can think of. oh yea! life guarding pays good too so does swim lessons there is always rich white parents wanting thier kids to know everything. 300 for a group of 5 per week(2 lessons per week) is not so bad.

Has anyone used these new steam cleaners?

I saw the infomercial on a Shark portable household cleaner, and my friend saw one on the Haan version. Was wondering if anyone has gotten to try these yet and if they actually work? Tried looking for reviews but it seems no one has reviewed it yet. The infomercial makes them looks great, but well I am a weary one of infomercials lol.

Answer
I've had one of the Shark steamers for about 18 months and I do like it. The model I have is not the one on the infomercial. Personally, I think that one is too small to have much steam generating power and it only has like 20-25 minutes of cleaning power with a little bitty stream of steam.

I got the one that looks like a small canister sweeper; the steam unit is on two wheels and it has a long hose that the attachments fit on. I thought it would be much more versatile and useful than just the plain mop type and it's only a little more money. I get nearly an hour of steam time and a good healthy stream of steam too! It actually has enough pressure to blast the dirt out of places you can't get to!

I use it to clean my gas grill, counters, cupboards, walls, trim, windows, kitchen appliances, bathroom fixtures, tile and vinyl floors, finished hardwood and just about anything else I can think of! It sure beats lugging that nasty bucket of scrub water around!

To get the best results you must pair a steamer with the microfiber cloths. These cloths wipe and absorb more than any rag, sponge, towel ever thought of! I get mine at Sam's Club where a bundle of 24 is less than $10. When they get dirty you toss them in the washer and dryer (no fabric softener!).

Cleaning with steam is different. You have to learn to let the steam do the work. We're so used to having to scrub that it's a hard habit to break! Let the steam penetrate the dirt and you can easily wipe it away.

And I have used my steamer for a couple other things. I have used it to strip wallpaper in no time and to defrost a freezer. I put the hose from my Bissell carpet shampoo machine in the bottom of the freezer to suck up the water and started melting the ice with the steamer. I was done in less than 45 minutes and that included putting the stuff back in the freezer!

And I don't buy very many chemical cleaners any more because I use the steamer. And since I started using the microfiber cloths, I rarely buy paper towels. I use them with the steamer, dry as a duster, as a dish cloth too! If you get into something really tough, one of those sponges with the scrub pad on certainly helps loosen the stuff up quicker.
