If I connect 2 pressure washer pumps to a motor, will I get double the output????? help?

pressure washer pumps on Cat Pump Pressure Washer | Pressure Washer Pump Diagram
pressure washer pumps image

wehaulmove

ok here is the situation, I have two 3000PSI pressure washer pumps, and a gas engine, If I took both and connected them to the motor, supplied enough water flow and used a coupler to join the output on both, will I get 6000psi of water pressure or will I end up creating back pressure and possibly damaging the pums, or will I get killed in the process.

I hope someone with an engeniering degree reads this, maybe I can get a valid answer. oh and forgive me for my spelling disaster here....he he he

Answer
If you have enough power in your gas engine to run both pumps, you may get almost twice the volume output of one pump at 3000PSI. For your next question, try the 'Check Spelling' feature located above the box.

Answer
I agree that you get what you pay for. The pump is the part you should consider most. Any engine will outlast most pumps. If you plan on using one extensively, get one with a commercial grade pump.

soap or detergent safe for pressure washers? Cheaper or better than the labeled stuff?

pressure washer soap on General Pump Pressure Washer Soap Spray Nozzle 6.5 Size
pressure washer soap image

Be respons

What will not eat up the seals or cause other damage in the pressure washer? Also cost less than the stuff labeled as pressure washer soap/detergent?
I will use it on my motorcycles both on and off road, bicycles on and off road, car, house, etc.
Thank you.

Answer
I have always heard that pressure washers are bad for motorcycles, that the design of motorcycle engines makes them vulnerable to water under pressure especially when the engine is cold. To play it safe, I would avoid high pressure wands.

Personally, I would use a detergent marketed especially for automotive uses.

Can I use regular car wash soap in the soap tank on a pressure washer safely?

JKP0011

To wash my car, I use the low pressure nozzle on my pressure washer. Can I add regular car wash soap to my 1 gallon soap tank on the pressure washer? I don't want the soap to gum up or cause any kinds of problems with the pressure washer. If this isn't a good idea, could you give me some other ideas?

Answer
The use of car wash soap in your pressure washer certainly shouldn't cause any problem, just be sure to completely rinse the soap tank when you finish. Don't allow the soap, even diluted, to set in the tank when it's not in use.

Roughly how much does it cost to tune up a bmw 318i 1993 model?

pressure washer undercarriage on Pressure Washer Accessory
pressure washer undercarriage image

J

Answer
BMW inspection II is the most comprehensive "tune up" you can get. But for a car this old you may want to use a neighborhood garage instead because it may not be justifiable to spend the $600-$800 needed. And note that this only covers for the job. If there's anything they find worn, you'll need to pay extras for work to be done...

Here's the list of things BMW does in their inspection II according BMW's owners circle website... Note that many of the "visual checks" can even be done by yourself... so this list may seem long, but to an experience mechanic, it's really not.

BMW Inspection II

Undercarriage
- Change oil and oil filter while engine is at operating temperature.
- Check transmission for leaks.
- Check rear axle for leaks.
- Half shafts: Check for leaks at flexible boots.
- Visually check fuel tank, lines and connections for leaks.
- Check condition, positioning, and mounting of exhaust system. Examine for leaks.
- Check power steering system for leaks. Check p/s fluid level; add fluid if necessary.
- Check overall thickness of front and rear disc brake pads using special tool. If replacement is necessary*:
Examine brake disc surfaces. Clean brake pad contact points in calipers. Grease wheel centering hubs (alloy wheels only). Check thickness of parking brake linings only when replacing rear pads.
- Check brake and clutch system connections and lines for leaks, damage, and incorrect positioning.
- Check steering for absence of play, condition of suspension track rods, front axle joints, steering linkage and joint disc.
- Check parking brake actuation. Adjust if necessary.
- Check all tire pressures (including spare - except M3, M5, Z8 and Alpina). Correct if necessary. Check condition of tires (outer surfaces [left/right]), tread wear and pattern; in case of uneven tread wear readjust wheel alignment if requested.*
Note:If requested rotate all four road wheels as instructed and rebalance.*
- Inspect entire body according to terms of rust perforation limited warranty (must be performed at least every two years).

Engine Compartment
- Read out diagnostic system.
- Check engine cooling system/heater hose connections for leaks. Check coolant level and antifreeze protection level; add coolant if necessary.
Note: Coolant must be replaced every 4 years (time interval begins from vehicle's production date); M5 replace coolant every 3 years.
- Replace brake fluid every 2 years (timing interval begins from vehicle's production date).*
- Check windshield washer fluid level and antifreeze protection. Fill up and/or correct if necessary.
- Check air conditioner operation.
- Replace microfilter.
Note: reduce replacement interval in dusty operating conditions.
- Reset Service Indicator.
- Replace intake air cleaner element.
Note: Reduce replace interval in dusty operating conditions.
- Replace spark plugs

Body/Electrical Equipment
- Check battery state-of-charge, and charge if required.*
- Check lighting system, i.e., headlights, foglights, parking, back-up, license-plate, interior (including map reading lights), glove box, flashlight, illuminated make-up mirrors, luggage compartment lights.
- Check instrument panel and dashboard illumination.
- Check all warning/indicator lights, check control.
- Check turn signals, hazard warning flashers, brake lights, horns, headlight dimmer/flasher switch.
- Check wipers and washer system(s);wiper blades, washer jet positions.
- Check condition and function of safety belts.
- Recharge or replace batteries for remote controls in all vehicle master keys.
- Check central locking/double lock.
- Check operation of all latches.
- Check heater/air conditioner blower fan, rear window defogger.
- Check rear view mirrors.
- Visually examine the SRS airbag units for torn covers, obvious damage or attachment of decals, decorations or accessories.

Final Inspection
- Road test with check of brakes, suspension, steering, clutch/manual transmission or automatic transmission (except M3, M5, and Z8).

do they make a wand to clean the undercarriage of your car?

Answer
Yes, but unless you hook it up to something high pressure (like a power washer) it may not do much. I would go to one of those drive-thru self service car washes, and use theirs. It's higher pressure.

How can I remove rust stain from a concrete driveway?

pressure washer 500 psi on ... :Campbell Hausfeld PW1835 1800 PSI Electric Pressure Washer - Reviews
pressure washer 500 psi image

missbeehay

I have tried a pressure washer with special concrete concentrate, straight bleach and even KLR but nothing seems to take it off? Any other suggestions?

Answer
How to Remove Rust Stains from a Driveway

Iron can leave rust marks on your concrete drive that may seem impossible to remove. Here are some methods to use for removing those unsightly red stains.

Steps:
1. Mix 1 ounce of tri-sodium phosphate (TSP) in a gallon of hot water. This chemical can be found at hardware and paint stores. Wet the concrete and use a scrub brush to apply the solution. Scrub vigorously and let the solution soak into the concrete for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse well.

2. Try a product called Iron Out, which is sold in plumbing supply stores.

3. Combat really bad stains with a pressure washer and muriatic acid. Apply the acid as directed by the manufacturer, leave it to soak for a few seconds, and follow with a pressure washer set at 2,500-3,000 psi. Sprinkle baking soda over the cleaned area to neutralize the acid and wash again.

Anyone give me your opinion on what size pressure washer to buy or name brand??

I need a pressure washer that will take chunks of mud off atv's and trucks but still be able to wash a car without damaging it.I have an electric 1500psi now and it isnt powerful enough.Want to buy a new one but not sure what size i really need.I have seen the 3000 psi's for around $400 but do i really need one that big??Any opinions anyone on what you have or have used before??Thanks.

Answer
I have a sears 2,500 psi and I love it, I bought it on sale a couple of years ago for under $300 and mainly use it for washing my vinal siding on the house and garage. it has a 6 HP engine on it and will clean anything off concrete and I'm sure what you need it for it would do a great job.

How much of a difference does it make if I wash my car with a pressure washer vs a regular garden hose/nozzle?

pressure washer vehicle soap on car pressure washer car steam pressure washer
pressure washer vehicle soap image

Dinosaur

Answer
High pressure washers tend to be more efficient in removing dirt/bugs/etc from your vehicle during the initial rinse. It reduces the probability of your vehicle being scratched by dirt during the soap application period. These are usually used at Car Wash locations.

Garden hoses are convenient, but use a lot more water with less force.

To give a power comparison, the regular household water pressure in the front yard is about 60psi... The pressure washer usually operates at 1500-3500 psi. Touching the spray of a pressure washer with your hand might cause severe damage.

How can someone lose both arms when a blackhawk tyre explodes? (Apparently this happened in Iraq)?

pressure washer accident on Power Washers for Transportation clean up
pressure washer accident image

Mark in Ja

This happened in Iraq according to a news article I read today. And another soilder was killed in the same incident. The helicopter was apparently on the ground.

Answer
This happened in my unit (E COMPANY 5-158th AVN) while I was downrange in OIF1 (2003-2004). The contributing factors were as follows......

1. The soldiers in question (1 of died in the incident, while one only lost both arms) were servicing (filling the tire with pressurized nitrogen)a main landing gear tire on a UH60A Blackhawk helicopter. They did not follow the proper procedures, which are clearly stated in the servicing manual (TM1-1520-237-23-1)

2. Soldier A (the fatality) was kneeling next to the tire, directly in front of the rim, instead of off to the side.

3. Soldier B (the one who lost his arms) was operating the tire inflation kit with his arms extended between the rim and the other soldier.

4. The UH60 uses a split rim design, which means the rim is two pieces (picture a car rim cut down the center vertically) held together (in the case of this rim) by 7 bolt, washer, and nut setups.

5. The nitrogen servicing cart has a low and a high pressure side, the low pressure side is capable of 50-300psig (pounds per square inch, guaged), while the high pressure side is capable of 150-3,000psig. When servicing a uh60 tire, one must take care to use the low pressure sude, since the tire is only supposed to be inflated to about 150psig.
6. The soldiers hooked the tire inflation kit to the high pressure side of the servicing cart. When they opened the valve on the tank and then tried to service the tire, they shot 3,000 psig into a tire and rim assembly designed for a much, much lower pressure. This overpressure caused the explosive failure of the rim hardware, resulting in the rim blowing apart, directly through Soldier B's arms, and into the chest of Soldier A. Only the quick reaction of a friend of mine did Soldier B manage to live. He used his blet and Soldier B's belt to turniquet the soldier's arms above the elbows. Soldier A was dead almost instantly from catching the rim in the chest at 3,000 pouns per square inch pressure.

While this was a tragic loss to the families involved, it was an accident. I almost made the same mistake myself, thank God, it was caught in time.

small engine problem...HELP??? my dad is going to kill me?

Tyler

I was pressure washing today with my 13 hp Honda washer. I somehow tipped over the machine by accident. It stalled out, and when i tried to start it again, the pull cord doesn't even budge. What could be causing this. After pulling the face plates off i can turn the flywheel almost a full rotation before it stops. Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
the engine does turn over...i can see the piston going up and down when i took the spark plug out

Answer
Did you release the water pressure? Squeeze the trigger while it isn't running and let the water flow go to the hose pressure. Many of the pressure washers do not have an auto pressure release when the engine shuts off. With pressure built up it is impossible to pull start the engine.

How many gallons/ litres of water required to wash an suv using pressure washer?
Could some please tell me the quantity of water required to wash a mid sized suv like Toyota FJ Cruiser or Nissan Xterra using a medium sized pressure washer(Karcher)?
Many thanks in advance.

Answer
I could answer more certainly if you listed the gallons per minute on your pressure washer but I used to clean industrial batteries with a pressure washer. I had a 30 gallon tank and that would last for quite a while. I think you would probably use about 10 gallons of water to wash an SUV if you're talking about spraying it down well, sponging everything, spraying off the soap, then spraying down the tires and rims.

If you're thinking of using a water tank keep in mind that some pressure washers don't work well without water pressure and all pressure washers have trouble starting without water pressure. The pump will pull more water in while its running but if it has air in it it won't pull water. you can cheat by putting the water tank higher than the pump. and depressing the trigger when the washer is off. that allows water to flow into the pump.

I Can't find any think that will take of the algae.

Answer
White vinegar is a much safer acid than Muriatic Acid (that sh*t ought to be outlawed for civilians); C-L-R is a bit stronger. Pour it on, let it sit for an hour, then pressure wash it off, using a 'fan' tip (not a 'pencil jet' tip), holding the wand about 8" or 10" inches away from what you're spraying. The 'Karcher' type pressure washers are 'ok' but useless compared to a 2500 psi Generac or similar brand; but gas jobs are noisy,. albeit versatile, handy to own...and never to be loaned out, as the next user will for sure screw it up. IF you buy one, note that you CANNOT run bleach through it.

Your walkway or driveway must not get direct sun, hence the algae...any way to prune some greenery away, or is that a non-issue? Anything you wind up doing for the algae will have to be repeated on an as-needed basis; you don't want slippery algae growing anywhere you walk.

I have a beech tree that is hanging over the deck and is some areas there is a black stain on the wood. I have confirmed that this is the results of aphids that live in the tree. I would like to clean the deck, any suggestions - bleach and water to not work.

Answer
Get a pressure washer that you can put detergent in a container on it. The detergent will mix in with the water as it goes out the nozzle. They make all kinds of detergent for pressure washers, so either find the one that you think is best for you, or ask someone at home depot what is the best one.

Answer
After beating them together to get the excess mud off, take your garden hose to them and a brush or a pressure washer, couple this with a detergent or use Simple Green cleaner from Home Depot . Make sure it is the blue color one ONLY. The other Simple Greens are not made for washing white laundry, but the blue is. Then I would wash them in hot water in the washer and use bleach. I AM A FIRM BELIEVER IN THE MAGIC OF A WASHING MACHINE.
PS. WHAT IS IT WITH EVERYONE ON HERE USING SPONGES??? I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY LUCK WITH THEM. I find them flimsy and only good for harboring crud and bacteria even when washed. Give me a good ole' rag or a brush ANY DAY!

Two parts that I need are the two white dowels found in the Radial Piston Assembly (which makes them the radial pistons, I think). But all the websites that provide DeVilbiss parts say that even the complete piston assembly is discontinued, and eBay, Amazon, and Craigslist has nothing.

If buying is not an option, then I could try to make the pistons, but I don't know what they are made of and whether something such as stainless steel would be a good substitute. If someone could tell me how I should go about this, then I would much appreciate it. Thanks.

What is the part called that holds a pressure washers wheel on?

TylerK

I have to replace wheels on a pressure washer. The axle is 3/4" . I just ordered the wheels online, but I need to find the part that holds the pressure washer wheels on the axle. I only have one part and the one I do have is round. I.D. is 3/4" O.D. is roughly 1 1/2" x 1/2" wide. And there is allen wrench nut you tighten to hold it against the axel obviously, so the wheels don't fall off. I was looking at a pal-nut, thinking I could just bang it on and it would work. Maybe? Do they sell those at Home Depot? Anyone know what I am talking about or the name of the part I am looking for? Anyone... If so point me in the right direction and help me get this problem fixed. Thanks

Answer
Go to Any bearing shop and tell them you need a locking Collet bring the shaft to get one that will fit, they have them with one two and three locking screws but one should work fine. Places like King Bearing or go to a auto parts store and ask them if they know anywhere in your area to buy them. You can also get them at electrical warehouses too.

Is it okay to use bleach in a pressure washer?

mmiller751

I'm going to pressure wash my house before painting it. Someone told me not to run bleach through my pressure washer. I'm thinking of using a deck sprayer to spray on the bleach/water mixture to clean the exterior of the house if it's not a good idea to run the bleach through the pressure washer. What say you?

Answer
I am a 37 year experienced painter and pressure wash every exterior I do.. I also repair airless sprayers, pressure washers, compressors etcetera...A pressure washer has a solvent tube on it for mixing/applying your cleaning agents or they simply have the black tip to attach that is a solvent tip..or the cheaper ones have a twisting adjusting nozzle on them that when in the fullest open mode applies the solvents...I have ALWAYS used bleach in my pressure washers for over 25 years and it does no harm at all..if the washer has the soolvent tube on it simply put it in the bottle of bleach and when you attach the black tip on the wand it will dispense it accordingly...when you change the tip after bleaching to a washing tip..it will stop dispensing it..I actually use the 12%m chlorine I buy from a swimming pool place in mine and not the 5% in common stores...This is over twice the strength of common bleach, and it has not harmed a pressure washer as of yet...The important part is flushing the washer out and dispensing tube of the bleach after using..IT WILL NOT HARM THE PRESSURE WASHER...

oh yeah how did it work did you just hook it up to a hose? i have well water does that matter?

Answer
Most rental yards have pressure washers. Its been a long time since I rented one. I would expect to pay $40-50/day. It hooks up to a regular garden hose. The only concern is if your well has enough gallons per minute for the washer to work properly. As a painting contractor I pressure wash many houses and decks every year. My big pressure washer is rated for 4 gallons per minute, my smaller one is 2.5 GPM. Before I hook it up I time how long it take the hose to fill a 5 gallon pail. If it takes longer than a minute I know not to use the bigger machine.
I don't recommend the rotating tip for beginners. Its true that it can do the job faster but it can do lots of damage if you are not careful. Sometimes the rotating feature gets stuck and leaves you with a narrow high pressure stream. Play it safe and use a 25 or 40 degree fan tip. Keep the water moving without stopping in one spot. That can cause damage if the water gouges the wood.
Most of the houses I work on have well water. I find about 1 in 10 don't have enough flow to use my 3500 psi, 4 GPM machine. I have only found 1 where I couldn't use my smaller washer.

How to quiet a small gas engine.?

tonymonton

I bought an 11HP Craftsman pressure washer. The engine is a Briggs and Stratton, Intek model. This is an awesome pressure washer. But, it sounds like a dragster (ok I'm exaggerating). I called Briggs tech support and they said they were working on a solution, but it may take 2 years. I will lose a lot of hearing in 2 years, and my neighbors may set my house on fire when I go on vacation (I'm still exaggerating).
I was thinking of running it in my garage with the doors closed and running extra hose. This would probably work, but the risk of Carbon Monoxide poisoning is too great to try it I guess.
So, does anyone know of a solution to this, aside from buying an electric model? I don't want to part with this machine. :(

Answer
Only way to quiet the exhaust is to fabricate a larger and thicker muffler or buy one that is larger that you can modify to fit the original bolt pattern and exhaust port size. I've done it on a few customers lawn equipment and with a skilled tech in welding is not that difficult although somewhat involved in layout and design. If the original muffler for the unit has a piece of pipe coming off it for exhaust, you could try attaching another muffler to it for say a small motorcycle or minibike of the same diameter pipe. Surprised the Briggs people would take that long to come up with a solution.
Another simpler solution is to build an insulated open-top box of plywood and foam insulation board to surround the washer with and direct the sound upwards---open top is necessary as it needs air flow to operate the engine or run it in a shed or garage if possible to deaden the noise. You'd have to ventilate the garage somehow or hook up a heat resistant hose to the exhaust and duct it outside with a blower like auto garages do.

pressure washer 8 gpm image

N/A

I just bought a general pump pro flat surface cleaner 4000 psi 8gpm and i have a dewalt 3800 psi pressure washer...
The pressure out of the wand is fine but as soon as i hook it to the flat surface cleaner the pressure drops and its not working right?
There were no instructions with it so i cant really go step by step if someone can help me id appreciate it!

Answer
You,ll need a pressure washer with an 4000 psi 8 gallon per minute (8gpm) flow rate to run the surface cleaner . Your pressure washer is only 3800 and probably 3 to 4 gpm .

does a pressure washer that is 3000 psi at 8 gpm clean better than one at 4000 psi at 4gpm?

Answer
Generally the higher pressure, not the higher flowrate, indicates better cleaning power.
