Are there any pressure washers that have its own water tank?

pressure washer no water coming out on ... Wash Systems Sells and Services High Pressure Cleaning Equipment
pressure washer no water coming out image

Minnus

I am looking to wash the undercarriage of my car. I live in an apartment, and don't have access to a water source. I am finding it impossible to find a pressure washer that has its own tank. The few I found seemed to stop selling in the US (Nomad pressure washer comes to mind).

My car has a special paint, and cannot run through a car wash. I think I can use the self-service, but if there is a different solution, I would like to go that route instead.

Any advice?
Thanks for the advice William - I sadly moved into a big city for work, and all my friends have similar living situations :'(

Using a Hot Water Pressure Washer to get ice off of roof of house?

Minn_Wild

With winter coming up here in Minnesota, I was wondering how much it normal cost for someone to come out and get a roof cleaned off for a normal rambler with a Hot Water Pressure Washer?

Thanks for your time

Answer
I doubt you'll find any body reputable to do it.

It will cause more ice growth when the water freezes.

It could blow holes or find leaks in your roof.

The best answer is electric roof defrosters. You can also get electric defrosters for your gutters to melt the ice in them too.

Both are available at major home improvement places like Home Depot and Lowe's.

They are asy to install and have plug into extension cords. They turn on automatically when the temperature drops beyond a certain point. The last one I saw in an ad was set to trun on when it drops below 35 degreess fahrenheit.

Water hose pressure washer adapter at lowes?

pressure washer jets on Fittings/Couplings

Iron

Does lowes carry the adapter you can put on your garden hose to use it as a pressure washer? Also does this thing work good, anyone used it? Thanks.

Answer
Pressure washers INCREASE the pressure of the water entering the washer by means of a HIGH PRESSURE pump. Nothing that does not reach similar pressures will have the same effect.
(Pressure washers usually operate up to 1500 - 3000 PSI, up to 15 - 30 times Household water pressure.)

There are a few items that use compressed air to additionally pressurize the water, but they require a separate air compressor and a second hose and never reach really high pressure. (These can discharge at up to about 250 PSI, up to about 2 1/2 Times Household water pressure.)
http://www.expeditionexchange.com/staun/
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHBAT4G55T0
These are usually only used in industrial applications where compressed air is already available.

I am assuming that this is the sort of item you were looking to find.
http://www.asseenontvvideo.com/511962/Water-Jet-As-Seen-on-TV.html

This type of item DOES NOT increase the pressure coming into the device,
it merely maintains more of that pressure and hence has a somewhat increased force to the stream of water coming out of the tip, by simply reducing the size of the orifice (hole) at the end of the nozzle. (Household water pressure is usually under 100PSI.)

There are quite a number of common nozzles that achieve much the same effect at a much LOWER COST.

The Adjust-a-Power nozzle is a common one widely used by forestry fire fighters, and car washes.
http://www.dixonvalve.com/dpl/dpl_page/2007/239.pdf
http://www.jmesales.com/item/143575/Dixon-Adjust-a-Power-Nozzle.aspx
You may even find this type of nozzle at Lowes, Home Depot or your local hardware store.

An even cheaper unit to try that is sure to be available at Lowes, Home Depot or your local hardware store is a SWEEPER nozzle. Which has a smaller orifice than a regular Garden Hose Nozzle, but larger than the Adjust-a-Power nozzle.
http://www.dixonbrass.com/dpl/dpl_page/2009/029.pdf
http://www.jmesales.com/item/148800/Dixon-Brass-Sweeper-Nozzle.aspx

Keep in mind that when the orifice is smaller LESS water comes out per minute (or per hour) if you are at the same pressure, so with these devices if the water is doing the real washing it may take significantly longer to achieve the effect you want as well.

HUSKY 3-IN-1 HI-Speed Pressure Washer

Answer
Not necessarily, and here's why: The rotating head on the unit shown has a nozzle in it that shoots out a pinpoint jet of high-pressure water. That high-pressure jet is strong enough to bore into wood. So, what you'll likely end up with is a bunch of circles etched into the deck surface.

A standard pressure washer has a nozzle at the end of the wand that adjusts from a pinpoint spray to a wide, flat spray. This wide spray is what you use for wood decks, because it's not strong enough to bore through the wood, but it is strong enough to blast off anything on the surface.

I got the Husky 1800 PSI electric power washer at Home Depot a couple uears ago for about $180. I originally got it to clean the eaves of my house before painting and it worked great. I also used the pinpoint spray to remove some old paint from a concrete surface. But, that pinpoint spray would have damaged the wood.

If I connect 2 pressure washer pumps to a motor, will I get double the output????? help?

pressure washer no water flow image

wehaulmove

ok here is the situation, I have two 3000PSI pressure washer pumps, and a gas engine, If I took both and connected them to the motor, supplied enough water flow and used a coupler to join the output on both, will I get 6000psi of water pressure or will I end up creating back pressure and possibly damaging the pums, or will I get killed in the process.

I hope someone with an engeniering degree reads this, maybe I can get a valid answer. oh and forgive me for my spelling disaster here....he he he

Answer
If you have enough power in your gas engine to run both pumps, you may get almost twice the volume output of one pump at 3000PSI. For your next question, try the 'Check Spelling' feature located above the box.

How can i tell what pressure my pressure washer is at?

N/A

I have a 3800 psi dewalt pressure washer and im wanting to turn it down to about 3000-3300 psi but im not sure to tell what psi im at while turning the pressure down.
If anyone could help me out id appreciate it!
Thanks!

Answer
What you would have to do is connect a pressure gauge between the end of the hose and the gun. Run the pressure washer with the gun's trigger pressed so there's water flow and check the pressure it is shooting water. To adjust it to the pressure you want you can either use the unloader to regulate pressure or adjust the engine's rotation which would also regulate pressure.
If you need a gauge here is the link to a 5000 psi one. There are more on the website in case you think this one is too much.

Hi i am looking at buying a pressure washer to clean my deck and to clean my house i found a 2600psi for $299 and a 3000psi for $399 both have a Honda motor. I was planing on using it to clean a couple other houses and decks is it better to get the bigger one or should i stick with the 2600psi?

Answer
The cleaning power is roughly proportional to the PSI rating multiplied by the GPM. While the higher pressure might not be necessary for the tasks you are considering, the added cleaning power means you'll get the job done faster with the more expensive unit. Keep in mind that you can always add distance to reduce pressure (back away from the surface), but you can't add pressure that the unit doesn't produce.

I have tried to use an old 1500 psi unit that I already had to clean a concrete driveway, but just purchased the 3000 psi machine from a home store, and the difference is amazing. My evaluation was that the extra $100 above the 2600 psi unit was well worth the hours saved. And the Honda engine gets very good reviews from most of what I've read.

I would suggest also getting the surface cleaning attachment, particularly for your wood deck. It's not really powerful enough for a really dirty concrete drive, but would surmise that it is sufficient for the wood (you don't want that high of pressure for the wood). For cleaning concrete surfaces, I highly recommend the Turbo nozzle; it takes the 0 deg pattern and spins it in a 15-25 deg (or so) pattern so that you get the dislodging pressure of the 0 degree, but in a pattern size that allows efficient cleaning.

What's the best electric pressure washer for detailing cars?

black_ice_

I'm looking for a good quality pressure washer for cleaning cars. It needs to be able to draw from a water tank without assistance, and it needs to be reliable. About $200 is my budget, but I'd like to keep it as cheap as possible while still keeping quality.

Answer
For $200 you are not going to get any kind of quality pressure washer.
You need a washer which operates at 1800 PSI or higher pressure output to perform effectively. They start at around $350 - $400 dollars. I do not know of any commercially available pressure washers which will draw from an unpressurized tank - they all are designed to operate from a pressurized hose delivering 3-5 GPM @ 20+ PSI.

I have a 40 HP 125 cfm 125 psi compressor. I need a pressure washer for some roofing. Is there a pressure washer that takes air to push the water compressor?

Answer
I have not seen a ready made air powered pressure washer. You could adapt an air motor to drive the water pump. Check that! I looked at a few air motors. For the cost, horsepower and air requirements, you would be better off to either buy or rent a gas powered pressure washer.

How do i change engine oil on my troy bilt pressure washer?
Model 020242
3000psi
2.8 GPM

Answer
Get the owner's manual online. If you are talking about the motor oil in the engine, there should be a drain plug on the bottom of the engine, which the manual will show the location of. Put a large coffee can under the plug, and unscrew it. If the plug has a large square socket on it rather than a hex head, use a 3/8" ratchet with no socket, I think it is highly unlikely that it will be 1/4" or 1/2"; I've never seen those sizes. Once the oil stops draining out, put the plug back in and pour in some new motor oil through the dipstick tube, SAE30 or 5W-30 fi you plan on using the unit frequently below 40 degrees f. After a few minutes (allowing the oil to drain down into the crankcase), check the oil as you normally would, and add oil a little bit at a time until it is "FULL". Small engines usually take a quart, give or take about 8 ounces. Again, your owner's manual should give crankcase capacity.

Which pressure washer should I buy to use around the yard?

sirdufus69

I've looked at a few websites and see that I can get gas powered washers for upwards of $400 and also get small electric ones for as low as $80. I understand that the big difference seems to be the pressure that each puts out (PSI) but that's all I understand.

Can I get a compressor so I can say attach a paint sprayer, a tire inflator and then attach a head so I can pressure wash? Or do I have to get a compressor for paint and air and then a pressure washer as well? I'm mostly interested in the washing part but would be nice to have an all in one solution if that is even available?

Here is what I want to do...wash the cars, RV, kids bikes, driveway, vinyl siding on the house and basic yardwork type of chores.

Please help me figure out what to buy?

Answer
If it were me... I'd go to the local rental equipment shop and ask the guy in charge of what he thinks. Why - because he would be the one very familiar with what you'd be looking for. As that's what he rents, and is very knowledgeable about.

Where does the thermal relief valve go on a Honda Excell XR2600 Pressure washer?

Greg

I have a 5hp Honda Excell XR2600 pressure washer. I talked to the reps on the phone and they told me it was the thermal relieve valve was the problem I was having. It would make pressure sometimes and then othertimes not. I got the part 16484 and I just don't see where it goes. I have had the pump off and I still don't see where it goes. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
I'm afraid the rep may have mislead you. The thermal relief valve only activates if the pump over heats by releasing hot water from the pump to make room for cooler water. It does nothing for making pressure. The pressure problem you describe would be connected with either the pressure relief valve, or the pump valves, or both.

How do I fix the hose tail on a Craftsman Pressure washer?

Mike R

I have a Craftsman 2550 PSI pressure washer. I need to replace the "hose tail kit". This is the part that you attach the suction hose to for the detergent. My problem is upon receiving the replacement part I have found that I don't know what order to assemble the parts. There is a new "valve" but it came with a small spring, metal ball, and a washer. Does anyone know in what order these parts go?

Answer
You should be able to download a diagram from craftsman.com and see for sure how to assemble.

If I have to guess it sounds like you should the valve should go on the outside followed by the washer, ball, and spring. It is essentially creating a check valve inline so that it can only suck up the detergent and it won't put water back into that bucket.

What size "pressure washer" will I need to remove paint from concrete or will I have to use a "sandblaster?"

Answer
I think that 2400 psi would do it for a pressure washer, but u should use muriatic acid (Hydrochloric Acid) instead. Just be careful, it is very toxic and it can severely burn your clothing and skin. Also use it in a well ventilated area because the fumes are toxic to the lungs and eyes. It will burn the paint off the concrete.

Using my Craftsman PerfectMix Pressure Washer, can I use it to spray pre-ermergent and fertilizer on my lawn?

pressure washer chemical injector on Pressure Washer Nozzles | Parts for Pressure Washer
pressure washer chemical injector image

James W

It has the ability to mix cleaner with the water spray. Would it hurt it to run liquid pre-emergent and fertilizer through it as well?

Answer
Your best and cheapest bet is to use a pump sprayer designed for agricultural use. They will have seals that will not be worn as fast by the liquid fertilizers. If you are absolutely dead-set on using the pressure washer, get a low pressure chemical injector. This unit will go on the outlet side of the pump so that the fertilizer will not be going through the entire pump. You will still wear your gun and hose out faster, but it is better than destroying your pump before its time. I'll put a source to a good video of a guy explaining downstream injecting.

What to do to Troy-bilt pressure washer that will not dispense detergent?

RC

After only using a few times will not pick up detergent to presoak prior to pressure washing. 188028 TB 2550 PSI Help....

Answer
It could be that the chemical strainer is plugged. Sometimes after using the soap it will dry and plug up the strainer. You could try pulling the strainer off to see if it will draw then.

Most pressure washers use a low pressure soap draw system. On the nozzle at the end of the wand you should be able to pull it back to make it go to low pressure to draw soap.

It also could be soap stuck up in the in the injector. You may have to pull the soap hose off to to clean that out.

There is really no need to call a mechanic, these systems are pretty straight forward and it should be an easy fix.

Would I notice much of a difference between a 2700 PSI pressure washer vs a 2000 PSI?

pressure washer lowest price image

Midwest Gr

I am looking at 2 pressure washers that are $100 difference in price. One is 2700 PSI running and the other is 2000 PSI running. For the purpose of cleaning my garage and concrete driveway, would I notice much difference if I went with the 2000 PSI one?

Answer
Generally it makes a difference in how wide a swath you can spray (assuming the nozzle is adjustable). So the higher pressure machine might be able to clean a 6" wide swath, where the lower pressure machine might only be able to do a 4" wide swath with the same exit pressure.

If you're trying to earn a living, the higher pressure machine may get the job done more quickly, and will likely pay back your investment sooner.

Should the hot water pressure be lower than the cold on my new 'Price Pfister' kitchen faucet?

Karen N

I just recently purchased a brand new kitchen water faucet, single handle. I understand that the water pressure will not be as forceful as my old faucet, however the hot seems to be substantially less than the cold and the luke warm. Is that normal or do I have a defective part?

Answer
The faucet itself should not reduce pressure. If it does it is probably the aerator screen. The housing for this screen is at the discharge point and can be removed by unscrewing it. My guess is that your situation is caused by a restriction in the line going to the faucet. Is the supply line kinked? Is there valves between the the feed line and the supply line? These are usually chrome and cheap. as they get old they should be replaced when the faucet is replaced. In any case ensure the valve is fully opened. They usually require a full turn or two but some are called 1/4 stops and require a 1/4 turn. If you did not replace the supply line (between faucet and valve) the washer may have not ended up in the correct place and is restricting the line. Sometimes when the water is turned off & on it loosens sediment in the line and it plucgs up the aerator screen. Last idea is that the old faucet was the original cause and the plumber simply turned the hot water feed down a little bit to adjust for the restriction in the cold side of the original faucet. A Very good idea is to tighten the connections on the supply lines to hand tight plus 1/4 turn. Then turn the water on and finish tightening them till the water stops dripping. This prevents damage caused by over tightening

I purchased a HDS 500 pressure washer that I believe burns diesel. I plug it in and the motor that pumps the water seems to blast at the first pull of the handle then slows alittle and I dont know how the igniter works to light the diesel, its 110 volt, I cant find anyone who works on these in my area. Springfield Missouri, anyone HELP!

Answer
Karcher is a good name brand. Go online to their website and on the contact us tell them what you need. Many that I have seen run on propane, but if you think it suns on diesel, then you would be better off getting Kerosene. It burns a lot cleaner. My neighbor cleans professionally and he has a big propane tank in the back of his truck that he uses to heat the water. I worked for a propane company and the ones we had run on propane too. If you have a tank on it though and are having problems with it igniting then I would change to kerosene. I write to many companies and I don't have trouble getting help from them or manuals.

How do you repair a dripping kitchen sink faucet?

desta

I have never done any plumbing repairs before, but my kitchen sink faucet drips regularly unless I find the exact position for the Delta faucet handle. I hate to use the kitchen sink because it is such a hassle to turn it completely off. I don't want to hire a plumber for something that I might be able to easily repair myself. Any advice?

Answer
It's sometimes difficult to keep from laughing while reading some of the responses to questions such as yours, asking for help repairing something, which is something most of the people responding couldn't even identify, let alone give advice on. You said it's a Delta kitchen faucet, which tells me it's a single handle unit, with a moveable center spigot. There will be two SEALS, not washers, in this unit, the hot side is the most usual culprit, but as long as you've got it apart, (if you opt to take it apart), then you may as well replace both. The kit you get at the hardware store or Home Depot, should have two new round rubber seals, two new tapered coil springs, (to keep pressure on the seals against), a new center control ball. Always, always replace the ball as well as the seals, as the old ball will frequently have small scratches on the surface which can let little dribbles of water thru, to form drips.
You'll need an allen wrench, the exact size for which escapes me, but if you're planning on saving yourself much money doing home repairs, you may as well invest in a small set of them for future use. After loosening the set screw, which will be on the underside of the handle, (I'm assuming here you've already shut off the water supply to the faucet), you should be able to twist the handle on the straight shaft sticking up out of the center ball, till it loosens enough to be able to pull it up and off. The large center cover, with the hole in the center for the ball shaft, will have to be loosened with a pair of water pump pliers, or channel locks, whichever you call them. If it's a fairly new, mostly unscratched faucet, you may want to use a towel or cloth of some kind between the chrome and the pliers, to minimize any new scratches. It, of course, comes off counterclockwise, goes back on clockwise to tighten. Once that's removed, you will have access to the center control ball and the two top seals that set above it and keep the water from squirting out of the chrome cover. You can pull the whole thing out by the stem, then you'll be able to see the two round seals and springs, setting in their slots in the base below. If it's an older faucet, the seals may be somewhat stuck in the slots, (holes), down inside and you may need to loosen them with one of the allen wrenches to get them to pop out. From here it's pretty much just reassembly work, putting the new seals, springs and center control ball back in proper order. I always lube everything, including the threads of the top chrome cover, with standard petroleum jelly, (vaseline). It makes everything work much easier. Be sure to get the small tab on the top seal, over the control ball, back into the little slot on the side of the column, otherwise it won't seat properly when you push it down . Once you have it all reassembled, turn on the water pressure slowly, watching for leaks at the connections. Good luck.

what chemicals do you use? what services come along with it?
like fences or houses? what?

I'm thinking about starting my own little part time job and want to know a little before I get into it.
can I start out using a 2300 psi pressure washer?
give me some ideas please, thanks!

Answer
you could start with 1500psi. always charge 4 times the amount of cost for the detergents you use. if you go into restaurant hood cleaning be sure to invest in a good rubber suit as the chemicals will eat you up with serious burns( almost like the acid in aliens eating a hole in the metal). you would also need to invest in bisquuen to protect the outlying areas of what you are cleaning(you throw that into your expenses as you throw it away after each job)
For driveways and houses you can use a mild detergent that only needs to loosen the dirt and let the pressure do the work.

P.s. the best chemical to use on metal is Potassium nitrate in flake form. it is highly corrosive and should be mixed in a lawn /bug sprayer (you will go thru several of these in a year if the business booms) if you pre apply detergents to houses and driveways use separate sprayers so as not to cause a chemical reaction. always wear a face shield no matter what you are doing to protect your eyes.

Answer
pressure washers require a minimum Volume of water (gallons per minute) your hose bib may be bad preventing enough water flow. some hoses have a screened washer inside them, when they clog, water is low flow. also are you on a well or domestic water? could be your system pressure is just low. finally some systems have a pressure reducing valve on them because the domestic pressure is really high. that unit may be bad or set too low.

All I did was to Google the vehicle to find this information. You were not screwed and the estimated MPG is posted online for anyone to find it. Your words, "nice and fast." When you drive "nice and fast" then not matter what the estimated MPG is indicated online, on the sticker, etc. goes out the door. I know how to drive a Prius to get 19 MPG. I also know how to drive a Prius to exceed the posted MPG. I have a 2008 Mercury Mariner hybrid and the estimated MPG is about 30 MPG. Last night on a 10 mile run, I recorded 38.2 MPG. What you are experiencing is called Buyer's Remorse. It is a classic human characteristic. If you went into this dealership unarmed, uninformed and with googly eyes towards a luxury brand vehicle, an Audi, then you, as the person in control of your destiny, made a decision and signed a sales contract. A contract is final when signatures are placed on the paper. Very sorry that you feel this way but a 2010 Prius is THE MPG champ on the market and obviously you were bored with the slow go performance and wanted more Umph! in your driving time. So, you got the Umph! and now you need to learn how to operate this car efficiently. But it is not a Prius. Nothing is. These are hard lessons to accept but what is done is done. There is absolutely nothing you can do but relax and get to appreciate the car in your garage or parking spot. Remember, anytime you go against a professional without proper defensive shields operating, you shall lose the match. So, have the Audi checked out at a mechanic since apparently you did not do that before the sale. This car is in the 70,000 mile range and maybe in need of a schedule service. This is a nice car and it is quite a step up in quality, performance and status from the Prius. I have owned a 2001 Audi TT Roadster since 2002. It took me three years to find it. I still have and it is a great source of fun and driving enjoyment. I use the ECON mode of the AC to save about two to three MPGs. I drive steady at 60 MPH on cruise to minimize fuel usage. I park quickly and away from other cars and I have zero dings on the car. I look ahead to coast to a stop and unless I have it at the MId-Ohio track taking lessons it is driven in moderation. I get comments all of the time. In fact, your A3, with 200 HP and 207 ft-lb. of torque can beat my car with 180 Hp and sub 200 ft-lbs. of torque. Oh, rather than premium fuel, I have used regular for over 10 years without any ill effects. I use synthetic blend engine oil and I have it serviced every six months. It is all original except for an alternator and one coil. Of course, shocks and struts are changed at 50,000 to 70,000 miles. And everything works except for the worthless headlight washer system. I took that out as the left side kept breaking for a reason Audi mechanics could not, or would not, locate. Best of luck.

I am going to sell all kinds of power tools at a garage sale and I have been looking up each individual item and sometimes I cant find a price. For example Pressure washers, echo chainsaw. Etc. can any one suggest a site to appraise all my tools

Try to find them on craigslist for sale, or on ebay. That should give you a good idea of what the actual resale should be.

What is a normal price to get a 250 square foot deck powerwashed?

paulie

I want to get my deck powerwashed but I didnt know how much I should pay the professionals. or Is it easier to just buy a powerwasher and do it myself? its not that big of a deck though. please help.

Answer
You can do this your self and save your money. A pressure washer at harbor freight will cost less than $100 and will do a great job. If you do it yourself just don't position the wand too close to the wood as will make it fuzzy when dry.Hope this helps

What would you use to clean a flak jacket that has sweat stains on it?

Christina

My husband is getting out of the Marine's in one week. He's got to clean & turn in all of his gear, before he gets out. There's 2 problems his flak jacket and sunglasses. The flak jacket has sweat stains on it. And the sunglasses have a strap on it that needs cleaned. The strap on the sunglasses has marks from and ink pen and permanent marker. I believe the straps for the sunglasses is made of the same type of material as the flack jacket. He already tried to clean the pieces of gear. Using a mix of liquid soap and a pressure washer. And that didn't work. So, I told him that I'd try to clean the stuff for him. If anyone if familar with cleaning miltary gear like this, could you please tell me what to use to clean them off. Thanks.

Answer
For the ink, try rubbing alcohol straight and agitate with a toothbrush. For the permanent marker, acetone (like in nail polish remover) is the only thing that will remove it. For the sweat, try straight ammonia. If that doesn't work, lather up a bar of fels-naptha soak, work it into the stains, let sit for a while and then soak in a solution of 1 cup borax in enough water to cover the flak jacket and rinse in a solution of vinegar and water to neutralize the soap.

Thank your husband for his service. Semper Fi!
