Can you use a pressure washer attachment on a regular water hose or is the high-pressure machine needed?

Willing2Wo

My needs are modest. I simply want to do things like reach some high spots on my house to get rid of spider webs, or light dirt.

Answer
By an attachment I assume you mean the WAND and SPRAY TIP for the end of the hose.

The distance the water travels and the force that it cleans with are directly related to the PRESSURE, as is the volume of water that discharged.

If you reduce the pressure to that of a Garden Hose Spigot on your house your reach is correspondingly reduced.

The bigger issue for you is that the Pressure Washer Wand does not have the same threaded connections as a Garden Hose, and some do not have common connections.

If you are not prepared to purchase even the lower pressure range household pressure washers, sold by people like Home Depot or Walmart for as little as $85.00, then you might want to try a Lower cost alternative to a Pressure Washer Wand first.

There are Garden Hose WATERING Wands, up to 48" long, with Female Garden Hose Thread on the inlet and Male GHT on the outlet.
You can also buy short SWEEPER nozzles with GHT that have a small diameter outlet that concentrate the flow and maintain the pressure in the line. This works like when you were a kid squezzing off the flow at the end of the hose with your thumb and the water shoots farther, or in simple terms restict the flow and the water pressure behind it increases (up to a point).

I have seen these in Garden Supply stores, Hardware Stores (seasonally) and Home Supply stores, like Lowes and Home Depot (seasonally).

Another nozzle that can restrict the flow even further is an Adjust-a-Power Nozzle, which is a short twist nozzle that has an interior rubber tube pinched by bearings to create a finer stream with the most hitting force and reach possible from the 100 PSI or less available from your household water supply.

Keep in mind that the smaller the nozzle orifice the smaller the flow rate, at a given pressure, and if it is the volume of water you are depending on to do the cleaning, you may take a while.

If you go the route of a traditional Pressure Washer Wand and tip, you will need to make sure you get an adapter (or a series of adapters) to convert to the thread needed for the inlet connection on the Pressure Washer Wand. That done you are again limited by the 100 PSI or less available from your household water supply.

Good Luck

what are all the things required to put on a racing steering wheel?

Benjamin

Ok so i want to replace my steering wheel in my 95 Ford T-Bird. I know that you need a steering wheel, a steering wheel hub adapter. What else is needed to install a steering wheel?

Answer
You will need a steering wheel puller, a ring spanner to fit the puller (center thread) a large socket and drive to fit the steering column nut and depending on the steering wheel some small sockets, a phillips head screwdriver or allen keys.
1. undo the battery
2. remove steering wheel center
3 undo horn wire - if it is central horn
4. place large socket on the visible nut in the center of the steering wheel, with one hand on the socket, push and with the other hand hang onto the steering wheel. It may be very tight.
5. remove the nut and washer
6, there should be some small threaded holes in a triangular shape around the center of the steering wheel locate them then test which bolts from the puller fit and thread into the holes, remove the bolts
7. place the puller base over the center of the steering wheel with the machined face towards you.
8. replace the bolts you just removed ensuring that the bolts slip into the channels on the foot tighten the bolts down as far as possible by hand ensuring the foot stays level and has even pressure on all the three bolts (1/2 inch of play is good)
9 thread the large center bolt into the puller and tighten by hand
10 check to make sure the bolt is centered on the steering column
11 when you are satisfied use the large ring spanner to tighten the puller, it will not tighten ,but will slowly pull the steering wheel off the column.
12 once the steering wheel is separated from the shaft remove the puller from the steering wheel

13 attach the steering boss to the steering wheel - do not install the horn pad

14 lightly place the steering wheel and boss onto the steering column, remember to feed the horn wire through the boss
15 ensure the steering wheel is straight, give it a slight wiggle to ensure the teeth are aligned
16 press the steering wheel down firmly
17 replace the large washer and nut that you originally removed from the center
18 tighten the nut with the large socket till there is no more movement
19 connect the horn wire to the horn pad and install the horn pad (socket, screw driver or allen keys
20 remove all your tools and mess
21 re connect the battery
22 stand back and admire your work.

When first got pressure washer it was very easy to start now it kicks back very hard.

Answer
The only way that this can happen is that there is too much oil in the crancase.Check the fluid level,on on LEVEL surface, while the engine is cold.Another reason is it may be flooded.Pull out the spark plug and pull the cord a few times.Replace plug and try it then.It it was flooded (fuel), your filter could be wet or dirty, check to see if the air filter is wet or dirty.Check the plug to see if it needs replacing.

i have a mobile detailing service, my pressure washer locked up and i let it sit for a couple of days and tried to start it again now its turning over but wont start can you help me?

Answer
When a machine locks-up it is never a good thing. However we will do our best to get you going again!
There is some information we must have for a fair diagnosis.
Does it have oil, did it run out of oil before it locked-up?
Is there fresh gas in the tank?
Is the air filter clean?
Did the unit turn over?
Is there resistance when you pull the rope?
Is there spark to the spark plug?
With the answer to these questions a diagnosis can be more readily prepared for you.

How do i fix a garden faucet to hose leak?

pressure washer replacement parts on Mi-T-M Work Pro WP-2700-4MHB Series Cold Water Pressure Washer parts
pressure washer replacement parts image

beeballer

My garden faucet leaks at the connection to the hose only while it is connected and turned on. I tried putting plumber's tape around it and also replaced the o-ring washer in the hose. It still sprays out of the connection. Assuming I try another hose on it and it still leaks, do I need to replace the garden faucet? What's wrong with it?

Answer
It would be wise to determine if as you suspect, if it is a defective hose end. If it is and the rest of the hose is worth it, they sell replacements that are not difficult to install. Before any of that though, be sure there is not a vacuum breaker on the hose bibb. You will know if there is by seeing little holes made into the brass body where your hose threads on. If you do have one, it's supposed to leak if it detects 'back pressure'. If you end up changing your lawn faucet, it may be sold as a hose bibb, boiler drain, or sill cock. All of this of course is based on the idea that the water leaking is coming from the hose thread connection. If it's leaking around the stem, the part that the handle is connected to, simply use a crescent type wrench to turn the 'packing nut' to the right while it,s leaking until it stops leaking. Good luck.

Will a hole in the windshield washer fluid bottle cause the check engine light to come on?

Lauren

So I just replaced my battery in my 2003 Buick rendesvous and I put more washer fluid into it when I backed out of the drive way I noticed it all leaked out. So the low fluid light came on and so did the check engine. Could that be the cause? I know the computer resets after the battery replacement and that's the only thing I know and see is wrong with it.

Answer
The low fluid light may be telling you about "low washer fluid", which has nothing to do with the engine. The check engine light tells you there's a problem with oil pressure, coolant temp, emissions, or something else related to the engine. The windshield washer is like the radio -- it's part of the car, but not involved with the engine.

I took apart my pressure washer pump and gear oil has spilled all over. How do I reassemble?

I took apart my Karcher K2400HH pressure washer pump unit from the engine and now gear oil is all over on the ground. I think I took the whole pump unit out and now I need to reassemble it back again. How do I put it back together, where do I fill the oil back in and what type of gear oil should I use? Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
I had the same problem with a Generac Model No 1537 2400PSI washer.!!! This unit has a 5.5 HP Honda engine.
I'm a builder, and one of my customers gave me this pressure washer after he had problems with it. Seems he left it with the gas in it for years and gummed up the carb. He told me his daughter ran it without the water turned on and burned up the pressure pump. He bought a new pump, but had no idea how to replace it. When I removed the old pump, I had a flood of oil on the garage floor. The new pump was a Briggs and Stratton kit #193473GS, and did not have the wet bearings of the original. It bolted right up to the bottom of the engine and works like a charm.. It took a little cleaning with Gum-out to get the engine running, but now it works fine.
I remember that there was a drain plug on the side of the pump shaft housing, but nowhere in the service manual did it tell you what weight oil went in there ,or how much.

How to quiet a small gas engine.?

tonymonton

I bought an 11HP Craftsman pressure washer. The engine is a Briggs and Stratton, Intek model. This is an awesome pressure washer. But, it sounds like a dragster (ok I'm exaggerating). I called Briggs tech support and they said they were working on a solution, but it may take 2 years. I will lose a lot of hearing in 2 years, and my neighbors may set my house on fire when I go on vacation (I'm still exaggerating).
I was thinking of running it in my garage with the doors closed and running extra hose. This would probably work, but the risk of Carbon Monoxide poisoning is too great to try it I guess.
So, does anyone know of a solution to this, aside from buying an electric model? I don't want to part with this machine. :(

Answer
Only way to quiet the exhaust is to fabricate a larger and thicker muffler or buy one that is larger that you can modify to fit the original bolt pattern and exhaust port size. I've done it on a few customers lawn equipment and with a skilled tech in welding is not that difficult although somewhat involved in layout and design. If the original muffler for the unit has a piece of pipe coming off it for exhaust, you could try attaching another muffler to it for say a small motorcycle or minibike of the same diameter pipe. Surprised the Briggs people would take that long to come up with a solution.
Another simpler solution is to build an insulated open-top box of plywood and foam insulation board to surround the washer with and direct the sound upwards---open top is necessary as it needs air flow to operate the engine or run it in a shed or garage if possible to deaden the noise. You'd have to ventilate the garage somehow or hook up a heat resistant hose to the exhaust and duct it outside with a blower like auto garages do.

I have a 55 gl. blue plastic drum that i want to use as a tank to supply my water to a electricpressure washer?

pressure washer supplies on Pressure Washer Accessories and Parts

Carlos

I have a blue plastic, 55 gallon, drum that I want to use to supply my electric pressure washer. I want to open a 3/4 hole and put a fitting where I'll be able to put a hose connecting it to the electric pressure washer thereby being able to use the pressure washer anywhere. What type of plastic glue or cement should I use?

Answer
Pressure washers are designed to receive input water at a pressure of 25 - 60 psi or more. They are not designed to "suck". Even with the drum full, the head will not create more than about 10 psi and as water is removed from the drum, pressure will drop to near 0 psi. My best estimate is that this arrangement will burn out your pressure washer very quickly.

But if you insist, many drums have one hole already threaded to take a 3/4" pipe fitting. Simply buy a threaded hose bib (faucet) and thread it in. If your drum is the kind with two larger lids, buy one or more reducing fittings in the plumbing department to sleeve the size down to a standard threaded hose-bib. As an alternative, bore a hole in one of the lids and install your hose-bib in the hole using a rubber washer on the outside with a stainless steel washer and nut on the inside.

Once you have your faucet installed, lay the drum on its side on a trailer or an improvised "stone boat" you can pull to your location. The faucet, of course, must be on the bottom.

If you're really willing to put your pressure washer at risk on this rig, you can reduce the risk by installing in the other lid a pipe nipple and tee. On one side of the tee install a snifter valve (like a tire valve) . On the other side of the tee, install a pressure guage. When you want to use the rig, fill the drum only 1/2 full of water and use an air compressor to jack the pressure in the drum up to about 80 psi. Then you can safely pressure wash 'til the pressure on the guage drops to about 25 psi.

If that doesn't give you enough wash time, plumb a second drum (or a pressure tank) in parallel with the water tank. Then you can fill your original drum with water and the second with air.

But wouldn't it be easier to just add an extra 50 feet or so of pressure line? Since you have an electric pressure pump you must be running power to it. Anything more than about 100 ft. of extension cord is likely to cause the pump motor to over heat.

Good luck,
Honey-Lee

Where can I purchase a industrial low pressure steamer to remove ice dam build ups off of roofs?

I see them on you tube videos but I don't know where to get them. Looking to clean ice off of roofs NOT a hot pressure washer but a steamer which produces low PSI.

Answer
Haven't seen the type of steamer that you are talking about, but I have used an industrial torch for removing ice dams. The torch works good. You can buy them from a welding supply company or a roofing supply company.

Has anyone used these new steam cleaners?

kazee

I saw the infomercial on a Shark portable household cleaner, and my friend saw one on the Haan version. Was wondering if anyone has gotten to try these yet and if they actually work? Tried looking for reviews but it seems no one has reviewed it yet. The infomercial makes them looks great, but well I am a weary one of infomercials lol.

Answer
I've had one of the Shark steamers for about 18 months and I do like it. The model I have is not the one on the infomercial. Personally, I think that one is too small to have much steam generating power and it only has like 20-25 minutes of cleaning power with a little bitty stream of steam.

I got the one that looks like a small canister sweeper; the steam unit is on two wheels and it has a long hose that the attachments fit on. I thought it would be much more versatile and useful than just the plain mop type and it's only a little more money. I get nearly an hour of steam time and a good healthy stream of steam too! It actually has enough pressure to blast the dirt out of places you can't get to!

I use it to clean my gas grill, counters, cupboards, walls, trim, windows, kitchen appliances, bathroom fixtures, tile and vinyl floors, finished hardwood and just about anything else I can think of! It sure beats lugging that nasty bucket of scrub water around!

To get the best results you must pair a steamer with the microfiber cloths. These cloths wipe and absorb more than any rag, sponge, towel ever thought of! I get mine at Sam's Club where a bundle of 24 is less than $10. When they get dirty you toss them in the washer and dryer (no fabric softener!).

Cleaning with steam is different. You have to learn to let the steam do the work. We're so used to having to scrub that it's a hard habit to break! Let the steam penetrate the dirt and you can easily wipe it away.

And I have used my steamer for a couple other things. I have used it to strip wallpaper in no time and to defrost a freezer. I put the hose from my Bissell carpet shampoo machine in the bottom of the freezer to suck up the water and started melting the ice with the steamer. I was done in less than 45 minutes and that included putting the stuff back in the freezer!

And I don't buy very many chemical cleaners any more because I use the steamer. And since I started using the microfiber cloths, I rarely buy paper towels. I use them with the steamer, dry as a duster, as a dish cloth too! If you get into something really tough, one of those sponges with the scrub pad on certainly helps loosen the stuff up quicker.

How can i advertise pressure washing?

Im 17 i want to make some quick cash by pressure washing cars drivewayas ect what should i do to spred the word flyer in the mailbox ect...

Answer
Silly Goose is right, you need to go door to door. Whenever you do a job, take before and after pictures, and ideally, one that is half clean and half dirty. When you do a couple houses in one neighborhood and have pictures of them before and after, people will see your work, know you did it, and will be more likely to hire you. Pressure washers talk about getting customers in small neighborhoods all of the time because they did one house in a neighborhood. I will put a link in my sources to a forum where pressure washers talk about this kind of stuff. In addition to the simple conversation, people post leads on that forum when someone calls outside of their service area. Hope it helps.

The heat produced from the device running is enough to evaporate any moisture it comes in contact with, ie, light rain storm, inadvertant spray.

Starting a landscaping Buisness?which John Deere mower?

5000 psi pressure washer on Pressure washer dual turbo lance - 5000 psi *free ship*
5000 psi pressure washer image

Nick

Hi,
Ok I'm 16 and loving small Buisness and am the small entrepreneur. Got ebay Buisness and wanna do this now.

Let's cut to the chase! We moved to an area that has 1-3 acer lots. I wanna start a small landscaping/mowing Buisness. I just spent $400 on a Troy bilt 3000 psi pressure washer because I clean houses and concrete/deck floors and patios. Now am doing landscaping.

1) which mower should I get. The John Deere D130 or D140. I would get a leaf bagger and cart to pull. Or should I get the cheapest zero turn that goes 9mp which makes up for the 42" cutting deck. A few trees here and there from property but mainly flat and some declined tht arendt horrible like maybes 10 - 20 degrees. Dot wanna spend a ton of money but something that my 55 yr old dad can use when I go to college for our property.

2) the d130-d140 are $1,700 - $2,000. They only go 5.5 mp but hve a 48" cutting deck. Do u think I should go for zero turn or tractor. Would get bagger for leaves for the zero turn or tractor. The ztr don't have headlights? Am I correct? What do you guys think I should get. I also wanna get a jet ski and money for my Chevy avalanche . So for everything I want we are talking around $20,000.

Truck is a Chevy avalanche $15,000 used and tractor and trailer is around $5000 in total right??.

3) should I get open or closed trailer.

- I am very clean with all my stuff for example I wash my dads and mom cars 2 times a month and my bike 1 a week. And take good care so for mower I would wash after every day or once a week. What do you think?

- but really I would like a trailer to protect my gear away front he elements like snow rain hail, and protect it so it can't get stolen.BUTTTT NOTTT SOMETHING THAT IS TOO LONG CUZ IM A NEW DRIVER ONT HE ROAD AND AM VERY CAREFUL AND WANT NOT DENTS OR SCEATES AND RESPECT ALL LAWS SO IM NOT A STUPID TEEN TYPICAL DRIVER. But what you think open or closed? And prices for stuff too would be great. Thanks

Answer
Get the zero turn. The Deere has problems going up the ramp and can tip backwards. Goes much faster and is made for commercial use. It's easier to maintain. I just saw a used one for $1,700.
Get an enclosed trailer. Place giant signs with phone numbers on both sides and the back. Get the metal round lock enclosure to keep anyone from cutting the lock and stealing your equipment.

For twenty grand you can get a very nice used truck and enclosed trailer. Get the truck from a dealer, for the warranty.

lahlahdips

Will I need to sand it, or will a pressure washer do the trick? Can anyone point me to a good website with step by step instructions? I'm not having much luck. Also, any tips from those who have done this will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Answer
Please know that if you pressure wash a deck that's got a lot of chipped paint on it. You will have wet paint chips all over the place. Big mess! and you probably will have a lot of paint still on the deck after your done power washing it. If you want to stain it then I would recommend either stripping the paint with a product called "Marine stripper". The best stripper I know of. Or sand it all down with a belt sander. Do you want to stain it with a clear stain or a solid one. When you completely remove all the paint. Stain a couple of the boards at a time using a brush. This is so that the stain doesn't dry on you before your done with a particular section and thus you avoid over-lapping in the final results. Let it dry a day or two. then your good to go. The big problem with decks is that if you paint them. You have to keep repainting them. But If you stain them. Then you can re stain them again and again with little or no problem. If I had to choose a route that would be easiest and most cost effective. I would paint it. I would just scrape it down real good. vacuum up the paint chips. Clean it with a bucket filled with hot water mixed with bleach. spray it off with a garden hose. Let it dry a couple of days. And Prime/Paint it with a good deck paint. If your deck is made of pressure treated wood (Green color wood). Then this may explain why the paint is peeling badly. You will have to use a certain type of stain if this is the case or just leave the wood bare.

What equipment would I need to start a mobile car wash?

sweet a

I know that I need rags, brushes, products etc. What I dont know is what do I buy to get the water to wash the cars, like what powers the pressure washer, etc

Answer
Most people use a gasoline powered pressure washer. You can get water either from a long hose ran to a nearby building, or you can get one of those large water tanks, usually 90+ gallons. Most people mount the pressure washer and tank combo to a small trailer, or inside a large work van.

Then, like you said your soaps, cleaners, waxes, polishes, chamois, a vacuum, interior carpet cleaner, a brass brush, a ton of rags, etc.

Water hose pressure washer adapter at lowes?

Iron

Does lowes carry the adapter you can put on your garden hose to use it as a pressure washer? Also does this thing work good, anyone used it? Thanks.

Answer
Pressure washers INCREASE the pressure of the water entering the washer by means of a HIGH PRESSURE pump. Nothing that does not reach similar pressures will have the same effect.
(Pressure washers usually operate up to 1500 - 3000 PSI, up to 15 - 30 times Household water pressure.)

There are a few items that use compressed air to additionally pressurize the water, but they require a separate air compressor and a second hose and never reach really high pressure. (These can discharge at up to about 250 PSI, up to about 2 1/2 Times Household water pressure.)
http://www.expeditionexchange.com/staun/
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHBAT4G55T0
These are usually only used in industrial applications where compressed air is already available.

I am assuming that this is the sort of item you were looking to find.
http://www.asseenontvvideo.com/511962/Water-Jet-As-Seen-on-TV.html

This type of item DOES NOT increase the pressure coming into the device,
it merely maintains more of that pressure and hence has a somewhat increased force to the stream of water coming out of the tip, by simply reducing the size of the orifice (hole) at the end of the nozzle. (Household water pressure is usually under 100PSI.)

There are quite a number of common nozzles that achieve much the same effect at a much LOWER COST.

The Adjust-a-Power nozzle is a common one widely used by forestry fire fighters, and car washes.
http://www.dixonvalve.com/dpl/dpl_page/2007/239.pdf
http://www.jmesales.com/item/143575/Dixon-Adjust-a-Power-Nozzle.aspx
You may even find this type of nozzle at Lowes, Home Depot or your local hardware store.

An even cheaper unit to try that is sure to be available at Lowes, Home Depot or your local hardware store is a SWEEPER nozzle. Which has a smaller orifice than a regular Garden Hose Nozzle, but larger than the Adjust-a-Power nozzle.
http://www.dixonbrass.com/dpl/dpl_page/2009/029.pdf
http://www.jmesales.com/item/148800/Dixon-Brass-Sweeper-Nozzle.aspx

Keep in mind that when the orifice is smaller LESS water comes out per minute (or per hour) if you are at the same pressure, so with these devices if the water is doing the real washing it may take significantly longer to achieve the effect you want as well.

I am looking for a pressure pump(washer) that generates 1500-5000 psi applying 12V DC battery. How many batteries required ?
Can I buy such pumps in the market ? please give more information on it.

Answer
My pressure washer has a 5 horsepower motor and creates about 200 psi. The short answer is that car starter motors create 5 to 10 hp for a short while but get hot fast. One battery will do the job for a very short while. The easier way is to use an electric washer, convert the 12 vdc to 120vAC with an inverter and wash away. The amount of batteries will depend on how long you want to operate at high pressure. The more the better. Can you buy such a pump, sure, convert a small home electric unit. Another good source for this stuff is West Marine, check their website and they have a great tech staff and no I don't work there.

I've looked at a few websites and see that I can get gas powered washers for upwards of $400 and also get small electric ones for as low as $80. I understand that the big difference seems to be the pressure that each puts out (PSI) but that's all I understand.

Can I get a compressor so I can say attach a paint sprayer, a tire inflator and then attach a head so I can pressure wash? Or do I have to get a compressor for paint and air and then a pressure washer as well? I'm mostly interested in the washing part but would be nice to have an all in one solution if that is even available?

Are there any pressure washers that have its own water tank?

I am looking to wash the undercarriage of my car. I live in an apartment, and don't have access to a water source. I am finding it impossible to find a pressure washer that has its own tank. The few I found seemed to stop selling in the US (Nomad pressure washer comes to mind).

My car has a special paint, and cannot run through a car wash. I think I can use the self-service, but if there is a different solution, I would like to go that route instead.

Any advice?

I want to get a pressure washer to use in cleaning the front porch, driveway, and siding of my home, but my house has low water pressure. Would a pressure washer still work in this situation? I guess I don't know how a pressure washer works - I assume it's hooked up to a hose on the house??? Thanks.

Answer
It really depends on what you call low. If its too low the pressure washer will 'hunt' or surge up and down on the outlet pressure and will eventually damage the washer unit. Your guess is correct it is hooked up with a hose to the house and a very long hose of too small a size will have the same effect as low water pressure. Check with manufacturers instructions or seek advise from the supplier but I would hazard a guess you need about 18/22 psi minimum.

I took apart my pressure washer pump and gear oil has spilled all over. How do I reassemble?

X-Men

My pressure washer motor is a 3.5 hp Tecumseh 4-cycle motor: model # H35-45696X-B with a DOM: 6074R. The only identifying mark on the pressure washer pump is a circular stamp in the casing showing 7 raised dots out of 12 spaces, with 95 in the middle of the stamp.

Answer
Both Kärcher and Campbell Hausfeld have used Tecumseh engines for their pressure washers. However, the smallest engine I have found for either manufacturer is 4 HP. A manual for Kärcher's pressure washer is at:
http://www.karcher-usa.com/support/downloads/pdfs/usermanuals/9139-1820.pdf
A manual for Campbell Hausfeld's pressure washer is at:
http://www.campbellhausfeld.net/wcsstore/FashionFlow/pdfs/manual01/466900_0207_web.pdf

The circular stamp may be a date code, perhaps the seventh month (July) of 1995. That would be consistent with your having a 3.5 HP engine, which would be considered too small by today's standards.

No pressure on a pressure washer?

sr-71_blac

It is a Honda Excell zr3700a, when you press the trigger water comes out but no pressure. Someone mentioned it could be in the trigger, but it sounds more like it is in the pump seals of the hydraulic pump. Any ideas?

And if anyone no of somewhere I could view a manual online I would appreciate it. I have searched, but no results yet.
paulofhouston I have already found that one, it only shows you the part number and description.

Why is our water pressure suddenly much lower, and how can we fix it - inexpensively?

Our house is 6 1/2 years old, and we have lived here the whole 6 1/2 years. It used to be, up until about 2 months ago, that 2 or 3 of us could all take showers at the same time (in separate showers, of course!), and we would have plenty of water pressure to go around. But now, all of sudden, if someone is using the shower, or the washer or dishwasher are running, we can't even get enough water out of a sink to wash my face! School starts again soon, and we have 6 people to get through showers, etc every morning! Help!!

Answer
Your water could be very hard (high in calcium and magnesium) and it's created a concrete scale in your pipes. Go to Home Depot, buy some hardness test strips and see how hard you water is. If it's over 15 GPG (grains per gallon) or 256.5 ppm (parts per million/mg/L) you will have a scale problem. Either invest in a water softener or a anti-scale device.

Second problem may be your pressure regulator. (This is only for municipal water, not well water)

If well water find out your well pump capacity in GPM (gallons per minute) You may have to upgrade.

My guess though would be a scale problem. We see this all the time.

Get it treated ASAP, otherwise you will have to replace your entire household plumbing.

Jerry

im mostly going to use it to wash my car once a week.
What psi is best to use when washing car ?
Does it matter if its electric or gas ?

Answer
Maximum of 1600 psi electric is more than adequate for your car and not to harsh to damage the finish. Gas powered pressure washers i would only recommend if you cleaning a bus but not a car.

What's the best pressure washer out there in the $100-150 range? Looking to wash off deck/patio/etc...?

How can I fix a possible leak in the wall?

How can I fix a possible leak in the wall?
My mom's been complaining that she smelled something weird, and occasionally, I noticed it smelled kind of musty. Today, I was looking for the source of the smell, and I was near the wall and heard a bubbling sound. I put my hand to the wall, and found a soft spot. It wasn't wet, but very soft. I think if I applied more pressure I would've poked a hole in the wall. The spot is relatively small, about an inch or two in diameter, and about two or three inches from the floor. Parts of the carpet feel slightly damp.

So part of my issue is that I live in an attached house. The wall where this is happening is connected to my neighbor's wall. I know the layout of her house, and it's likely that either her washing machine or dishwasher is very close to the affected wall on my side, and my mom has said that she hears a bubbling sound every time my neighbor does laundry. I don't know if the leak is coming from her house or mine.

Another problem is that my mom really don't have the money for a plumber. My father just passed, and my mom's disabled, so she can't work. I'm a full time college student, and now I need to take on the half of the bills my dad used to pay. I only have a minimum wage job (though in the process of looking for something better). So when I say money is tight right now, I really mean it. That's why I want to fix it sans the help/expenses of a plumber. I'm pretty handy around the house, but I've never dealt with a leak before. Basically I'm just looking for some DIY advice. I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Answer
The first thing you need to do is talk to your neighbor and find out if there is a water problem on her side of the wall. If her plumbing is causing the problem it should be her responsibility to fix it. That includes damage done to your house. Her homeowners liability insurance should cover the damage to your house. When you talk to the neighbor ask to inspect the connections to the washing machine. It might be something as simple as a hose washer. If the leak is not visible from her laundry room it's back to your house. Cut into the wall with a utility knife and expose the pipes. I am assuming the walls are plaster or sheetrock. Once the leaking pipe is accessible It should be pretty easy to fix. If you don't feel safe doing the repair it is a quick job for a plumber at this point. You will have done half of the work by locating the problem. If you want to attempt it yourself it should be easy to find a video lesson on soldering a pipe by searching youtube. After that, keep looking for a video lesson on drywall or plaster repair.

What type of handle is this called or where can i get a similar 1.?

So i decided to make a high pressure gun like the one on this site.

http://patator.frbb.net/vos-pacs-personnels-a-vous-f9/le-sniper-m25-de-neotun-cal-20-mm-video-t1463.htm

But i don't know what the handle is off or what it is called.

I dont mind makeing modifications to the gun just as long as it is the same basic thing.

Answer
It's just called a "pressure washer trigger."
To find a place to buy one, do a Google search for that term.
Should cost about $20-40.

Pressure Washers: HONDA vs. BRIGGS & STRATTON engine?

I am considering buying a pressure washer.
My uses: cars, decks, siding, and concrete/brick walkways.
Honda engine: 160 cc, 2600 max psi, 2.3 max gpm. ($339)
VS.
Briggs & Stratton engine: 175 cc, 2700 max psi, 2.3 max gpm. ($299)

As you can see, my dilema is trying to justify paying for a more expensive Honda engine that has less power ratings.

Which should I buy? and most importantly...why?

Answer
I have a Honda pressure washer,it has been in regular use for several years, without any trouble.

Answer
Your question is a little vague. Are you saying the house never cools to the point where the thermostat turns it off, or are you saying it just keeps running and running?

Quick check: slide the thermostat control to a much higher temperature, somewhere you're absolutely certain it will think the house is cool enough and turn off the AC. Wait five minutes.

Did the outside unit turn off? If not, no problem and your solution is in section 1. If it did, continue to section 2.

Section 1) - what's probably happened is your contactor is welded shut. A contactor is just a heavy-duty relay, a switch operated by the control system. The control system itself isn't heavy-duty enough to run something as powerful as the compressor, so it just turns on the power to the contactor, and THAT turns on the compressor. And over time, the contactor's contacts can overheat and weld themselves together ("welded shut") or develop so much slag and oxidation from arcing when opening that they cannot make a good contact anymore ("burned open"). Either one is fixed the same way: replace the contactor.

A new contactor will run you $30-60 typically, depending on where you go. Call your local AC parts dealers to find one that will sell to the general public. Electronics stores and appliance dealers sometimes have the right parts, too. You don't need to match make and model, just get the same ratings: you probably have 208-240v AC single-phase, so a two-pole contactor will likely get the job done for you. When you open the unit, take a picture or draw a quick sketch so you can see what wires went where when you need to put things back together. Don't forget to TURN POWER OFF FIRST before messing with the wires.

Section 2) Your AC is working but not able to get to your set temperature. If it did before, what's changed? Before you do anything else, check filters. Airflow is the name of the game with these things.

Have you ever cleaned the outdoor coils? Did you know you even SHOULD clean them? I do mine every year. Get the coil cleaner concentrate from an appliance parts dealer, remove the fan and spray it with a garden sprayer from the inside toward the outside. Let it foam up and push all the gunk out. Rinse it away with a good blast from a garden hose. DO NOT USE A PRESSURE WASHER. You can destroy the coils that way. Do it again, rinse. Do it again, rinse. Use up the entire gallon of concentrate and just keep cleaning until it's gone. Put everything back together and you're done.

Be sure all the vents are open.

If necessary, check the ducts and be certain there hasn't been any under-house critter damage.

Finally, and this is a tough one to do, you can do some disassembly of your indoor blower unit and inspect the coils. Again, mix up a batch of coil cleaner and clean them off. Rinsing is a bit more problematic here but if you've ever spent any time with no filter in place, I assure you your coils need cleaning. And if you use the cheap loose fiber kind of filter, you probably need to clean them anyway.

If that still doesn't fix it, you're going to need a tech. But now you've eliminated the simple stuff and the tech won't be able to snow you on unneeded services.

That's it. Good luck with it.
