This has a lot of good reviews. Does anybody think this could work for my needs?

If not anybody recommend a power washer for under $300?
Prefer Electric but could do gas if there was a good deal

Thanks in advance for any help

Answer
The specs show 1,700PSI and comes with 5 spray tips. You start with a lower PSI (say 500) with a medium tip and see how it cleans the small patio. If it is satisfactory , no more experimentation. The wider the tip, the more PSI you can use.

For vinyl walls, use the widest tip and start with a small PSI. The wide tip cleans more area. Start at 500 PSI and increase if necessary.

Is anyone familiar with a plaster coating on basement walls?

pressure washer sandblaster on Pressure Washer Sand Blaster - Daimer SUPER MAX 8950C-840 WS
pressure washer sandblaster image

I am trying to determine the best method to remove crumbling paint and remnants of what appears to be plaster on the interior basement walls of a house. The house was built in the mid 40's. The walls are cinderblock underneath what appears to be a skimcoat of plaster(?) and textured paint. I assume that the skimcoat was put on to fill in the grout lines for aesthetic reasons. Is anyone familiar with this practice? Should a power washer or sandblaster be used to remove this layer? Some other method? Any help much appreciated!

Answer
I have seen this stuff in other basements, and it never seems to stick. I think basements are a little too damp for this application. If it is crumbling, you may try to take it off with a putty knife. This is going to be very time consuming. I would next try the pressure washer, angling the stream under the edge of the plaster to see if you can blow it off.

I am hesitant to advise you to try a sand blaster. While I know it would take off the over coat, it is really going to be dusty and dirty. If you can stand the mess, go with this method.

how do I get gloss paint off concrete slabs?

Ash

Do you know any ways of getting it off?

Answer
How to remove paint from concrete?

There are a few ways to remove paint from concrete. We all know what a time consuming headache removing paint can be. But this must be done before applying any new coating, topping, stain, sealers, etc.

Pressure washing with a high power pressure washer works for most paints with exception to some of the stronger paints such as epoxies. Of course, this method is only recommended on exterior surfaces.

Shotblasting will strip concrete of most coatings as well as the surface of the concrete itself. If you don't want to alter or damage the concrete surface then don't use a shotblaster. This machine is like a sandblaster, but shoots tiny metal beads which can easily be recollected as you go. A vacuum is attached to the machine to suck up the dust and debris. A shotblaster will also create a nice profile for any future coatings or toppings. But you must be careful and move along at a steady pace or you will strip too much of the concrete itself. The problem is these machines are hard to find and expensive to rent.

Floor grinders with diamond wheels are another option. Unless you plan to overlay the concrete with a cementitious topping, I don't recommend this because a grinder will leave scars. It can also be too dusty for indoor use.

Chemical strippers are the most common method. There are many types of stripping agents. Knowing what type of paint and even the brand will help to decide which chemicals to use. You can contact the manufacturer for recommendations. The problem with most chemical strippers is toxicity. They can be very dangerous without good ventilation and harmful to the environment. Take all precautions including respirators, covering all your skin and eyes, and even turning off furnaces, boilers, and pilot lights.

There are some new, soy based products, that will remove paint from concrete or any surface. These strippers are low odor, environmentally safe, and easy to use. They come in a gel form. Just spread the gel on, let it sit for while, and the paint will easily scrape right up. The key is to be patient and let the gel do the work, not you.

We've only been able to find the soy based products at contractor supply stores and online. They really do work and are completely safe. They say you can eat the stuff and it won't hurt you, but I think I'll pass. The nice thing about the gel is, when you scrape it up, you can move over to the next area and spread it again. You can do this two or three times unless there are multiple coats of paint to remove. So you don't have buy enough to cover the entire surface, just reuse it as you go

I have vinyl siding on my home and on end of the house there is moldy type mildew growing covering the siding. The siding is white and this green goo looks awful. What is the best cleaner to get rid of it? I have a pressure washer. Someone told me to try "job max" (found at Home Depot). Is there any home remedy I can try first? Maybe a little bleach and water?

Answer
Some hot water, soap and bleach. Scrub with a long handled scrub brush. Then spray to rinse well. Be careful with with a pressure washer on vinyl siding, it can rip a hole right in it, if you turn it on too strong.

While pouring our porch the concrete splattered onto the vinyl siding. How can we remove it without damage?

rvbazzell

We recently added a concrete porch across the front of our house. While pouring the concrete some of the concrete splashed onto the gray vinyl siding. I tried a pressure washer set at a low pressure and it took a small amount off. How can I remove the concrete without damaging my vinyl siding?

Answer
Carefully scrape off what you can with a putty knife. Clean the rest with acetone on a clean rag. This is what the vinyl window guys use to remove light scratches. Of course try it in a unnoticeable area first if you want to make sure it won't hurt the vinyl

I've looked at a few websites and see that I can get gas powered washers for upwards of $400 and also get small electric ones for as low as $80. I understand that the big difference seems to be the pressure that each puts out (PSI) but that's all I understand.

Can I get a compressor so I can say attach a paint sprayer, a tire inflator and then attach a head so I can pressure wash? Or do I have to get a compressor for paint and air and then a pressure washer as well? I'm mostly interested in the washing part but would be nice to have an all in one solution if that is even available?

Here is what I want to do...wash the cars, RV, kids bikes, driveway, vinyl siding on the house and basic yardwork type of chores.

Please help me figure out what to buy?

Answer
If it were me... I'd go to the local rental equipment shop and ask the guy in charge of what he thinks. Why - because he would be the one very familiar with what you'd be looking for. As that's what he rents, and is very knowledgeable about.

Is a 2000 PSI pressure washer good enough to clean siding?

Rose

I need to know if a Gas powered 2000 PSI pressure washer, is hi powered enough to clean dirty vinyl siding.

Answer
Yes and maybe to powerful if not done correctly. Spraying in the downward direction will help reduece the chances of getting water behind the siding. If you can not spray in a downward manner then spray straight on, never spray upwards and don not hold the wand to close as this can cut into and damage the siding.

I am looking for a pressure washer for my husband for Christmas. I found one on sale for $149. It is an AR Blue Clean 383. 1900 PSI

He only wants it for washing cars, maybe cleaning the siding on the house and the patio....is this a good pressure washer? Does anyone know anything about this brand? It got good reviews on Amazon but my dad thinks it is no good. I know its not top of the line, but I dont want to spend much more than $150.

Does anyone suggest another brand that is good?

Answer
Don't spend more than $150. You have done your research and you are assured that the product you are looking at is well thought of. Is your Dad a professional pressure washer evaluator? If not, just smile and say politely," thanks for the advice Dad."

pressure washer for the INSIDE of a home?

Allergic T

Hi, is there such a thing as a weaker version or indoors version of a pressure washer but for home interiors i.e. bathrooms, kitchens, corridors????? Thanks
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pressure_washer
rhh: I stated "a weaker version" of the typical external pressure washer for the reason you mentioned. I know that the external type would create a mess indoors
For those who want to answer this: Please note: I am asking if there is a WEAKER VERSION for indoor use

Answer
I have never heard of a pressure washer for the inside of a home. Using a pressure washer outside wouldn't normally create a problem, because the water would just run off, evaporate or soak into the surrounding ground, but in a home that would create a pretty big mess.
Could you be thinking of steam cleaners?

Something like these?

Any good pressure washers made in the USA?

pressure washer generac image

Be respons

The second time I tried to use the Generac 5993 it just shuts itself off while I am up on the ladder and while I use it, so of course I have to constantly climb up and down to try and keep it working. I read all the instructions, directions, etc.
I also made the HUGE mistake of not knowing what if any return policy Pressure Washers Direct had before I bought from them. The policy is once you have used it NO RETURNS!!!

I am amazed that most companies do not know anything about their product or service.
The lessen I learned from buying my Generac on line and also from buying a BMW is that you should only buy local and from a dealer or store you trust!!!!!!!!! The BMW dealers are too far away and too few also.
If you buy non local: When you have problems or questions you have screwed yourself, because the Co. will not help at all or you spend far too much time and money traveling back and forth again and again.

The Generac does not clean the siding on my 2 story home. I am about 10-15 feet away on a ladder so maybe I need to get closer somehow or buy a extension of some sort. I have used different soaps and detergents both pressure washer specific and others to no avail.

Generac and Pressure Washers Direct said it was made here in the U.S. but I plainly see on the pump that it is made in China!
I did research of how to use a pressure washer and what to use as a cleaner before I bought this and it seems to be of no help in this case.
I also have a BMW motorcycle the F800GS and BMW treats owners like dirt. They have no interest in helping or fixing the mistakelemon you bought from them. I also asked questions about buying BMW accessories and you would think I was trying to rob them.
Apple seems to be one of the few Co. that makes a effort to keep you the customer happy.

Answer
I first made the mistake of buying an electric power washer from Sears. It lasted one season and I thought I was screwed. I returned it and they gave me a brand new one which also lasted one season. Finally I returned it and used the cost towards a sears gas powered power washer that has been very reliable and does a great job. Not sure where it was made but I would warn people not to buy an electric and if they want great service,,,, Go to Sears!!
Good luck

What is best gas powered pressure washer in the 3000-3500 PSI range?

Ive been trying to find the best gas powered pressure washer in the 3000-3500 psi range. Going to be used to regular home use but would like to have to option of having the extra power. I am willing to spend the extra money on a better unit or brand. Ive been looking at different brands, and i see generac keeps popping up as one of better units for money. i also read good things about rigid. its getting confusing.... I want it to last, i want a good brand, and i want some extra power? Any Help?
Would you consider this to be a Good - Very good pressure washer. For home use as well semi commercial. and good for that price range of 800.

Answer
In general consumer grade equipment such as that sold at Home Depot or Walmart will not hold up as long as commercial equipment typically sold at an independent power equipment retailer. I would go to a lawnmower shop that sells commercial equipment and see what they have, the price is quite a bit higher but for regular home use you will almost always never have a problem with the unit for as long as you own it. Brands are pretty much irrelevant anymore in consumer grade because there have been so many company mergers. You can have one company like MTD making over 10 different brands. El cheapo pressure washers typically have Briggs or Tecumseh engines, I've been seeing many now with no-name Chinese engines on them, but good units almost always have Honda engines.

What is E10 gasoline and is it the same as regular unleaded gas?

David

I have a gas pressure washer that says on the gas tank to use E10 gasoline. Where do you buy that kind of gas?

Answer
E10 = 10% ethanol content. The pressure washer does not REQUIRE E10, the sticker only means that it's okay to use E10.

Some people will tell you that E10 is bad for engines, but don't you believe it. I've been driving the same vehicle for over 20 years and fueled it with up to E20, it runs just fine on all of them. It can complicate matters when you store the engine, however.

For best results, at the end of the season drain the tank and run the engine until it dies of fuel starvation. Then add a little fuel stabilizer to the tank and restart it for a few seconds to get the stabilizer into all the passages of the carb. This will prevent varnish forming in those tiny little nooks and crannies will the engine sits idle for months on end.

Pressure Washer Problems?

pressure washer thermal relief valve on which pressure washer should i buy which pressure washer should i buy ...
pressure washer thermal relief valve image

Metisse

I have a Husky (gas) 2600 psi HU807720. It was working fine and then the next day I went to use it again and as soon as I turned it on, I had pressure for about 10 seconds then it went off and the Thermal Release Valve starts spraying out water and that was the end of pressure washing. What does this mean? I cannot locate a repair manual online and my basic owners manual is worthless. I am getting proper pressure from the faucet, the motor runs and initially the pressure loads. I talked my husband into letting me take off all of the little valves that we could locate but noting was blocked. I have thought it could be the pump but it does get pressure for a few seconds. Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated?

Answer
Take the tip of the sprayer off and run it that way to see if you get a steady stream with the trigger pulled when starting it up. Release the trigger and then try again to see if the same stream comes out. If when you release the trigger and pull again and no pressure the relief valve is bad or something is stuck in it. Other issue is the nozzle was clogged and blow back into it. If the steam stays good while cycling the trigger you had something stuck in the hose that was clogging the nozzle.

I just bought a used Sears Craftsman 6.5 pressure washer and after 45 minutes of use it is losing power and acting like is wants to turn off. If I stop using the wand during this it stays on but when I continue it does the same thing?

Answer
Me too but a different brand. I blame it on the water supply (country) not keeping up with the pump in the sprayer. Also debris clogging the tip of the nozzle since the hose I connect it to has no filter or screen. Good luck. Its aggravating when you want to get a job done!

How to bypass or fix maytag atlantis washing machine fill button?

Michal

ok, so i have a maytag atlantis washing machine. i left it with a friend for 2 weeks, and they left it outside under a black garbage bag in 115 degree weather. once i got it back, the washer only fills to half full, like the whole level switch doesn't work, and is orange, and the timer for setting the wash time is warped and orange. I have 4 kids, so I need more than just a medium load at most times. how can i bypass or fix this.

Answer
The orange color is probably rust from moisture being trapped under plastic. I'm assuming its a top loader? The fill switch works off of air pressure. It has a rubber or plastic hose connected to the bottom of the tub and it runs up to the switch which is located in upper control panel. Where timmer knob is etc... is it adjusted water levels? With knob? Take the cover off of the back of panel and u should see it. It is. 2½-3 inches diameter and round. With rubber hose coming out. There isn't any way to bypass it because when it gets full the pressure cuts it off. It either wont fill at all or wont stop.

If its adjustable then turn the knob back n forth u will see it push the plunger in and out with each setting. The further out the plunger goes the Fuller it gets. Maybe its rust there and not coming all way out? If so spray little wd40 on it?
If its not knob adjustable it has a flat head screw in end of it to adjust it. To make water level go up turn it to the left. But never turn it more than half turn! It may damage rubber diaphragm inside.
That's really best way I can explain it all to ya typing it all out on my phone. Oh ya unplug it first it is 110v there. U can fill it then turn timmer and pump it out without washing, to keep adjusting level. Good luck.

was it the dishwasher that flooded the kitchen? water pressure problems?

pressure washer york on Pressure Washing Bronx NYC | Power Washing Bronx New York

Urielle

I have no idea what's going on. I just moved in a house, mid-century old. And I think it has all sort of water piping problems. It makes a lot of banging noises when using boiler and laundry.

But my concern is this dishwasher, which is broken and totally rusted inside. Never used it. I knew it was broken when I bought the house. But one night, suddenly the whole kitchen floor was flooded and the water went right down to my basement and destroyed my artworks...

It felt like 80 degrees! in the kitchen and it is cold March in New York! It was definitely hot water and there was wood damage [white streaks] on the cabinets near it. There was heavy condensation on windows but no water dripping from the cabinets.

The countertop was covered with water too. I had to use all the towels I had.

Anyway few days before that, the garbage disposal stopped working. I don't know if it's related or not but the undersink cabinet was flooded as well.

There were warm water sitting in the dishwasher too. I never used it since it was old, broken, and cannot shut it as the handle is broken.

It was someone else who found the kitchen this way and had called me. She was not there whatever happened and said there was no water in the sink. So... it wasn't from running water from the faucet. What happened here? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This was a scary experience for me!
what might have caused it?
Geeta Fookata - Here's the photo to show the discoloration that looked like rust and also around the trimmings. It makes noises when you open it.

You went ahead and accused me. And falsely accused me of making multiple accounts. This is my only Yahoo account. I reported you because you falsely accused me of making multiple accounts and would be glad to allow admins to configure from my computer address [I doubt they would waste their time] and from the looks of it, you have been harassing others. If you feel that a person who asks the question is wasting time, I suggest you not do the same and simply report instead of being what you're against. Don't waste your time on here.

Thanks for the informative answers, everyone!

Answer
Generally most dish washers have only one water supply line and should have a separate shut off.

Since the house is falling apart its a good idea to shut off the water to the home and replace the broken shut off valves for the 5 buck replacement costs its not worth the thousands of dollars in damages to art or anything else. Your garbage disposal is not related to the dish water unless its Jerry rigged into it Sounds like you bought a property that needs major remodeling of plumbing its probably the reason why the previous owner sold it to you With out looking at it cause and effects is hard to gauge You should just call a plumber and have them look at it and the rest of the plumbing maybe they can pressure test the system. At this point You have broken water shut off valves until you replace them expect lots of damage to your home and contents. Those valves are the only thing preventing future damages

hope it helps

stuck jeep lug nuts?

pressure washer 101 on Subaru Power Generators and Presuure washers
pressure washer 101 image

reebius

I have an 2002 grand cherokee with the chrome capped lug nuts. 2 of the lug nuts were stuck so I tried wd40 and then tried heating them. Well, the lug wrench ripped the chrome cap off of both of them exposing just the nuts underneath. Would a tire shop be able to take them off? thanks

Answer
With the other nuts removed, places too much pressure on the remaining ones.

1. Replace the other nuts tight, then place the lug wrench on the stubborn one..... then using a jack or a can, let the lug wrench set on the jack or can.

2. With your foot; stand on the end of the lug wrench, with a little down force as if you would jump (just a little - becareful not to fall)....bump it a few times with your weight. After a few seconds you will hear a squeak, and feel it move a little.
With that one broken loose.....get the next one the same way.

3. With the two stuck nuts now loose, loosen the remaining 3 nuts you tightened.....then you can remove the nuts and your tire.

Note: If because the chrome cover is off of one lug, with a washer or piece of metal or even a dime you can "shim" up you inside the socket of the wrench so it will fit the lug nut "tight."

Using your weight to loosen the nuts is a safe way to break loosen any tough nuts.

YOU will not need too but: you can use the jack to jack up the lug nut wrench to loosen a nut if your handicapped.

You should always loosen or "squeak" all the nuts before you remove any nuts.......when you take all but one off at a time...the last one has so much pressure on it....it won't go anywhere with out a lot of grunting and possibly damage to the nut or the "stud" the nut bolts up on.

So go back to square one... and tightly replace the nuts and try again as above and I'm sure you will be happy to see it will become easy to remove.......

Its just "tire shop" 101, don't feel bad lots of folks do the same thing.........

Best Pressure Washer Setup for Less Than $300?

pressure washer cat pump on Pressure Washer Gx390 Honda 4000psi 4gpm Cat Pump - Product Reviews ...
pressure washer cat pump image

I'm looking for a pressure washer that I can use for cement driveways, decks, etc. I also am looking to get a flat surface cleaner. I have tried looking on the Costco since I heard they sold some website but I couldn't find them. I also don't want a junk piece of plastic. Thanks for the help.

Answer
You won't find a commercial grade pressure washer for less then $900. Anything with a pump that mounts underneath the motor is considered a home owner use pressure washer and won't hold up to consistent use. Plus when they do breakdown, they are more expensive to fix than what you paid for them.

Grainger sells Mi-T-M, which is a quality pressure washer. Home Depot's sells a high end Dewalt pressure washer with a Cat Pump.

Do research and talk to your local pressure washer distributor to make sure you get a quality machine.

I've got a Husky 1750 psi power washer. Want it for my carpet cleaning wand. Too much psi? hot water okay ?

paulj0557-

Alright, I know many of you might be saying 'why in the heck do you want all of that pressure for a carpet wand which usually only needs about 300-500 psi even from a truck?! Well, I do have a nice Cat brand truck pump and yes, I run it at about 300 psi. Anything higher wastes water, and when switching to a hand tool for steps and upholstery you really need even less pressure.
So after all of this why use a 1750 psi? Well, it's all I have and I need to clean a high rise building so I have to use portable equipment. I DO have plenty of suction power so I'm sure that the extra pressure I'm putting down will get extracted fine. So this is not an issue.
Soooo my questions are these:
1. Can the seals in this pump ( typical cupped rubber seals X 4) handle the hot water supply from a typical hot water tank?
I do have a post inline hot water heater that I will heat the water further AFTER it leaves the pump.
2. Is there an inexpensive ( cheap DIY way) means to reduce the pressure from the pump? Also, since I have 4 jets on my wand will this pressure of 1,750 psi be reduced by 4, thus about 425 psi per jet?
Thanks for any help. No answers will be too far fetched considering I am on a budget here, and there is a short time frame in which I have to get this put together.

Answer
If I were you i would look at your insurance policy very carefully. You are using equipment outside its designed parameters, and if anything goes wrong you will be completely on your own.

I have a decent size gas pressure washer. It works ok. Is there any kind of degreaser or chemical out there that will clean stains, and some rust, and to overall "whiten" the driveway?

Answer
witch;s brew~ kidding~
on mine i first used cat litter as you know already. Then I poured a box of Baking Soda first then on top of this/Go-Jo Hand Cleaner,I let it stay on the stain over night.the following morning I poured a sm.bottle of club soda, took out a stiff broom and scrubbed it alittle then hosed it off.A friend who owns a auto parts store told me this is what he uses on his parking lot and home driveway,
With disbelief I tried it though ,You may like the results as I did. you ll be surprised!

How do you clean off the dirt and silt from landscaping rock?

happee

We just bought some new rock and used the jet setting on the hose to clean it off, but it still seems like there's some stubborn grime on them. I don't think a pressure washer will work much better than the jet setting.
Are there any chemicals (Natural or synthetic) that clean them off? Vinegar, maybe? We don't really want to take 1.5 tons of rock and do the whole wheelbarrow, sifter, water thing.
Please help! Thanks!

Answer
There is a product that cement companies use to remove cement from tools and unwanted areas but I do remember the name (its caustic!). Mineral spirits will work and can be found at a local hardware store.
