Will a pressure washer with 1700 PSI clean a wooden deck very effectively? The deck is approx 25' X 8'.

pressure washer 1700 psi on Pressure Washer Psi Needed | Pressure Washer Suppliers
pressure washer 1700 psi image

John Doe

Some people have told me that I should use a pressure washer rated between 2000 - 2300 PSI to clean a deck effectively. I was planning to rent one in that range, but now someone is going to lend me his 1700 PSI machine. I'm still willing to go to the expense of renting a more powerful machine if a 1700 PSI machine won't do the job properly.

Answer
the machine you are borrowing should be plenty powerful enough- but test it on a spot that people won't see to get the right pressure. If you have the pressure too high or the nozzle too concentrated- you can actually etch the wood and damage it.
After you pressure wash get a good sealer, like Thompson's. This will help close up the fibers of the wood, and keep it looking cleaner longer.

Is a PSI 1700 pressure washer powerful enough to clean a deck?

Anthony F

Is a PSI pressure washer powerful enough to clean a deck and siding on a house? I want to prep my deck for painting and also want to wash the siding on the house. Thanks

Answer
â¢1500 through 1850 PSI â suggested best for cleaning decking, patios, sidewalks, or garage doors

â¢2000 through 3000 PSI â propose using this for cleaning larger decks, such as marina piers, siding, stucco, or fences

Please help me in it. I want to buy a power washer or pressure washer for cleaning my hotel kitchen. For cleaning oil and black spots.

Answer
First, consider if you will be using it enough to buy one. Rentals are cheap and you don't need to do maintenance or storage. Most Home Centers and Sears sell decent units.

Is there a portable pressure washer out there that can clean a truck without having to use a brush?

GC

I manage a fleet of semi-trucks, and I need a fast and efficient way to wash them. It normally takes 2 hours to wash one truck with a hose, spray nozzle, and brush. I need to know if there is a portable pressure washer out there that can clean a dirty truck without the need for scrubbing with a brush. This should reduce the wash time to less than half.

Answer
There are many different models of pressure washers but without a brush you always have slight film of dirt. But if you don't mind a slight film of dirt it would cut your wash time in half or maybe less than half. I hope this helps you out.
Good luck.

Iam running about a 2000 stall pulls a little when you put it in gear want to go to a gearset that will pin you in the seat a little and get a little better gas mileage currently get about 4.5 if your easy on it. Set up with 6psi boost on 8.1-1 pistons small valve heads casting date 1970 supposed to from a camaro. Any clue on what kind of h.p. 750 edelbrock carb mandrel bent pipe, headers and flowmasters

Answer
Your 4.56's are running the engine out of breath on the top end.. That combo aint gonna make power in the higher RPMs where the 4.56's will put you crossing the traps.

You have a mild cam'ed, 383 stroker with a small blower... Your engine is making the torque.. No need to try to do it with gears.

Your best gears will probbly be 3.42's to tell you the truth.. I would need alittle more info to be 100% sure though.. Like your rear tire size, and all the specs on that 262* cam (adv. duration, duration at .050", lope sep angle)

The 4.56's you have now will "pin you in the seat" the hardest on launch than any other gear, but it's killing your top end (putting rpms past the rpm where your HP peaks at) and also killing your fuel mileage.

If it's not "pining you in the seat" now, then you have some slight probs in tuning. Or your just boiling the tires off, no traction, just spinning hard.

I would also go higher on the stall.. That combo sounds like it needs 400-800 rpm more stall.. So a 2400-2800 stall converter.

Hows your tuning?

I love the edebrock carbs. I been running them and carter AFB (same carb as edelbrock) for the past 8 years..

Out of the box they have a few probs that needs to be fix though..

If you noticed the engine trying to die during hard braking or cornering.. Or a bog when you hit the throttle..

It's the floats not adjusted right.. Out of the box most was set wrong.. You need to adjust them to 7/16" at rest, and 15/16" to 1" drop.

The pump arm linkage need to be in the top hole as well.

The other major thing with them is fuel pressure.. 5.5 psi is max the needles can handle.. Over that and the pressure bounces the needles off the seats and trys to flood carb some.. Use an adjustable fuel reg inline with supply line and set pressure to 5.0 to 5.5 psi (I run mine at 5.25)

In most performance engines the step up springs needs to be changed out too.. The 7" HG pink springs work good in alot of set ups...

You really need to get your vac level though to see what springs you need though.

Also carb jetting.. Hows yours running.. Rich, lean? Your spark plugs are the best thing to let you know.. Read your plugs and jet till plugs shows you are just right.

What spark plugs are you running? I belive 1970 chevy heads still used gasket seat, not taper seat plugs.... So you will need the spark plugs with the large 13/16" wrenching hex, not the 5/8" hex and a washer type gasket on the plugs.. If you run AC delco plugs the # with be R4-S... The blank spot is the heat range..
Most roots blown engines will need atleast 1 step colder plug.. So an R44S ac delco plug or maybe 2 steps colder R43S.

Whats your timing like? The boost will cause detonation quicker on pump fuel, so you may have to pull alittle timing out. Try 34* total to start with.

Also set your timing curve so full mech advance is fully in at 3,000 rpm

Can I use regular car wash soap in the soap tank on a pressure washer safely?

JKP0011

To wash my car, I use the low pressure nozzle on my pressure washer. Can I add regular car wash soap to my 1 gallon soap tank on the pressure washer? I don't want the soap to gum up or cause any kinds of problems with the pressure washer. If this isn't a good idea, could you give me some other ideas?

Answer
The use of car wash soap in your pressure washer certainly shouldn't cause any problem, just be sure to completely rinse the soap tank when you finish. Don't allow the soap, even diluted, to set in the tank when it's not in use.

Are there any pressure washers that have its own water tank?

Minnus

I am looking to wash the undercarriage of my car. I live in an apartment, and don't have access to a water source. I am finding it impossible to find a pressure washer that has its own tank. The few I found seemed to stop selling in the US (Nomad pressure washer comes to mind).

My car has a special paint, and cannot run through a car wash. I think I can use the self-service, but if there is a different solution, I would like to go that route instead.

Any advice?
Thanks for the advice William - I sadly moved into a big city for work, and all my friends have similar living situations :'(

What are good hose replacement for AR 383 pressure washer?

Mr. Aztec

I have a AR 383 (blue clean) pressure washer which it came with a detergent bottle (which I find it useless). I want to replace the hose and as upgrade the gun with the wands. Anyone recommends me a good pressure gun to buy where I can attach a foam cannon and as well with good wands. Also I would like to replace the hose in order to make it compatible with the pressure gun.

Answer
The AR Blue Clean line uses proprietary connections so that you cannot use standard hoses and guns as replacements. This is like what Apple does with the iPhone. Fortunately, there are some adapters out there. Home Depot sells one, I'll put the link in my sources below. With this you could now attach standard hoses and guns/accessories. BE makes good guns and foam cannons, and goodyear makes good hoses. There are many other quality guns and hoses out there as well, BE's are just easier to find than some of the others.

Is it possible to convert a pressure washer into a flamethrower?

Philip C.

Do most commercial pressure washers leak? I don't want to run the risk of a tank full of alcohol leaking on a portable electric power cell.

Answer
Wow.
Where to start?
I don't think the internal components are capable of withstanding attack from the alcohol which would certainly lead to leaking.
You need a way to safely pressurize the alcohol.
The tip and the nearby region needs to be heat resistant (metallic), most are just high performance plastic in a regular (non-flamethrower)pressure washer.
After solving those problems, there is the inherent danger of flamethrower operation and potential runaway combustion and explosion. I guess I would advise proceeding extremely carefully or completely abandoning this project to be safe.

Hi.

I am a sculptor. I have some cast iron sculptures heavily encrusted with ceramic shell investment mold. I was considering buying a sandblaster unit, but I have a small studio and I don't like the idea of dust in the air. I wondered if a high powered pressure washer would have the same affect of blasting off the investment. Ideas?

Answer
Not normally - and not without introducing some abrasive which will probably be as bad. Another option is bead blasting, but quite honestly given all the health and safety implications plus buying kit you may never use again it would be better to send them off to a specialist shot/sand blaster.

Pressure washer is stalling?

jdford98

Pressure washer suddenly stopped. It will crank back up but stalls as soon as pump starts increasing pressure. Does the pump need lubricating, and how do I do that. It is a Troybilt brand.

Answer
Sounds like the engine is running lean. That will make it short on power. The most likely cause is a dirty carburetor. Remove it, take it apart, soak it in a quality parts cleaning solvent and put it back together with a rebuild kit. If you leave fuel in it for extended periods use a fuel stabilizer.

Is it legal to use pressure washer to clean car?

Tom

Hi, I would like to know if its legal to use pressure washer to clean car on a public road ?

Answer
Pressure washing contractors do it every day, the legal issue has to do with reclaiming the water. Some cities are mandating that if you wash a car with a pressure washer, you must have a system to vacuum the water back up. They state that cars get many contaminants that should not be washed down the drain. Some cities will require you to pick the water up, AND have a special permit to do so. Check my sources- I have included a forum discussion on this among pressure washer contractors, and a document from the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services. Check with your county, city, and state for the mandates to make sure you are not breaking any laws.

i have a 3000 psi pressure washer with extention.Looking for tips, tools,or chemicals that would help

Answer
Yes, I've been doing it full time for 3 years and learned that a good surface cleaner and a 6 ft. wand are great time saving tools. Best money I ever spent. Ex: Almost everybody will want you to do their driveway or sidewalks along with the house. Do a driveway by hand and it will take hours and give you a sore back. Use a surface cleaner and it will take 60-90 minutes and do a better job than with a wand. Good surface cleaners last 10 years and have few moving parts to break. New ones cost around $1500 but will pay for themselves in a month. The 6 ft. wand. When cleaning the eaves, soffit and fascia of a house, you have to hit it from several angles to get it clean and a 6 ft. wand saves you from lugging a ladder around the whole house so you can get the nozzle at the right distance to the surface. The area I work in is hilly so many of the lots are sloped and suddenly a house is much taller at one end. Normally, you would need to get a ladder or extension pole. With a 6 ft. wand, you can still reach the area and move on to the next. A 6 ft. wand also has a tendency to keep you drier when working. Ex: when you are cleaning mold from a slab, it's easier to stay dry. 6 ft. wands usually run about $150, but are totally worth it. Get one with a variable pressure handle and it will save the wear and tear on your machine, but specifically the pump. Also, a 12 ft. ladder with a 6 ft. wand will allow you to clean most 2 story houses without having to use a 24 ft. extension pole. Extension poles are great for the abs but it gets old as the summer goes on. I'll be happy to talk with you about chemicals I use, just contact me. No charge.

why my pressure washer does not spray soap?

just bought a pressure washer and it does not spray soap, at the beginning it worked fine but after the second time I had this problem.
It doesn't have exchangeable tips, I just have to rotate the nozzle.
I was told that it might have some air.
thanks every body.

Answer
soap will only come out with only the hose pressure only. you must put the soap in the bucket and add a little water so it can flow easy. after that you have soaped what ever you are cleaning you can star the washer up and clean.

Why does my kitchen sink not get water pressure when on cold?

maw maw

It works fine on hot but just a small slow stream comes out on cold. The other sinks in the house work fine. I have checked the shut off under the sink and it is fully on.

Answer
It either needs the washer or the brass barrel inside the tap replacing. You will need to turn the water off from underneath the sink.

Try fitting a new washer first, if that does not improve things take the top of the tap off again and remove the brass barrel. Take this to a plumbers merchant or a large D.I.Y. store to enable you to get the correct size. They are sold in pairs and cost about £15.

If you are reluctant to remove the barrel, buy several sizes on sale or return and ask for in store advice on how to remove and replace the barrel. B&Q have in store plumbers.
I watched a plumber doing this, then when a tap in another room went kaput I did it myself.

I have a townhouse with no access to water hose. The front entrance always gets bird droppings around windows and stucco and get dirty. Is there such a thing as a hoseless pressure washer to blast away dirt and keep front entrance clean since i have no access to water hose?

Answer
Yes there is, but they cost a little extra. You can get a tank for your pressure washer so that you will not have to hook it up to a faucet. Most of these pressure washers come on a trailer or a skid, though, since the tanks are so large. You will then be able to fill the tank somewhere else, and then use it around your townhouse. It should be noted, though, that a hose is still required to run from the outlet on the pressure washer to the wand or attachment you are using to clean with.

To clean stucco, you will not want to use too much pressure. I'll include a link to a guide in my sources that says you should set your washer somewhere between 1,500 and 2,500 PSI and still test it on an inconspicuous area before washing the whole wall with it.

Answer
You won't find a commercial grade pressure washer for less then $900. Anything with a pump that mounts underneath the motor is considered a home owner use pressure washer and won't hold up to consistent use. Plus when they do breakdown, they are more expensive to fix than what you paid for them.

Grainger sells Mi-T-M, which is a quality pressure washer. Home Depot's sells a high end Dewalt pressure washer with a Cat Pump.

Answer
It's really just removing the mounting bolts on the pump and pulling it free of the engine. There should be some set screws in the drive shaft you will have to loosen. if you don't see these, find a hole in the drive shaft cover and pull the starter cord a little at a time to rotate the shaft, These holes are there to access the set screws. If you are still having a hard time, you may have to gently break the drive shaft free, check my source on this process.

Where can I buy boat cleaning supplies in bulk?

Questionma

I would like to start a boat cleaning business and would like to buy big 5 gallon or 55 gallon drums of cleaning supplies and waxes and polishes. Is there a website or supplier? Thanks for the help, I am a college student and just wanting to make some extra cash in the summers.

Answer
Cleaning supplies for boats are not really much different from most everything else. Ok! Guys calm down! Yes, there are a ton of "Boat products! Special care should be exercised when it comes to environmental issues. (Green Products). Vinyl plastic, Canvas parts, Fiberglass, some upholstery issues.

But, Soap is Soap.

Other than some "caustic" products I've found you can do about as well at Costco, as from "wholesalers". I even find useful things at the Dollar store.

I once bottled my own brand of Boat wash. I bought drums of a pretty good cleaner, bottled it and labeled it. it retailed for about half the price of Name brand "boat cleaner".

The trick is to "know" what works and what doesn't.

You can buy wax and rubbing compounds, from "Automotive Paint" wholesalers. Like Sherwin-Williams Auto Paint stores. (Different from their regular paint stores.)

But you can also get set up to buy from boat stores, like West Marine or Defenders Boat supply. The more you buy the better the price. However the bulk savings are small in comparison to other businesses. (Read: "are not worth the effort")

I think the biggest thing you need to know about is the use of buffers, pressure washers, etc. Be very mindful of safety. Wear goggles. Rubber gloves, long sleeve shirts etc.

Answer
1) Print first aid information on a single page. Include phone numbers for hospitals and national numbers such as the poison control center. Sell them door-to-door.

2) Speak with neighbors. Offer to clean around, and under, the washer and dryer, with special emphasis on getting out the built-up dust in the dryer's exhaust vent. Include information from your local fire department about the risk of fire from accumulated lint now remaining in the vent tube.

3) Look up stocks that have paid dividends every year for over eighty years. This means they have paid through recessions and the big depression. Sell this information to adults as a news service. (If you try to offer investment advice, you will be breaking the law. This information should be sold as news.) Especially helpful to local professionals could be local stocks that have long track records, even if they do not meet the big depression requirement.

4) Call investment professionals in your area. Call life insurance salesmen in your area, too. Offer to clip the press releases printed in your local papers (especially the business press). Tape each release to a single sheet of binder paper. Look up the phone number of the person in that news release. Sell the information to one agent for two or three dollars per person after he makes his first sale; one dollar per person before that first sale. You can even raise the price to ten dollars per person after he makes his tenth sale. This payment arrangement offers the salesman the opportunity to earn from your efforts without going broke. It also allows you to establish a clientele.

5) Learn how to set a sprinkler system timing clock. Go door-to-door offering to re-set the clocks as the seasons change. Keep the names handy, as you will return every quarter for resets. Fifty clients once each quarter, youngster, and you can start making plans for buying a car for cash.

6) Offer to drain the hot water heater of the sediment. Since one of the chief causes of HWH failure is the build-up of the sediment, you can save your clients from replacing their water heaters soon. You can also offer to leave an inexpensive hose attached to the drain valve. Then, when you return every six months, you only need take the far end of the low pressure hose out of the garage, turn on the spigot, and let five gallons out. Leave that thin hose extended and against the wall of the garage.

7) Offer to read a chapter of the Holy Bible to families in the area. They can even work in the kitchen, as an example, while you read.

I am interested in a power washer and mostly to wash my car. Can someone please tell me if this type is the right product for the job? "Makita HW101 Compact Pressure Washer 240V". Many Thanks.

Answer
Just about any pressure washer will be good to wash a car if the pressure isn't so high that it rips through window and windshield gasket rubber or blows the windshield wipers into the neighbor's yard.

If you're in the U.S., are you sure you need a 240 V model? It will need a special electric outlet wherever you want to use it, so keep that in mind.

Which pressure washer can receive hot water at 120 degrees?

I just installed a new water heater and installed a spigot so that I could connect a pressure washer after it so I would have hot water that is soft to wash my car and for general use.

Answer
doesn't sound hot enough to be a problem for the washer if it has a brass pump, but that is hot enough to scald someone - a mixer valve were you could temper the water would be safer

They all have different personalities and all make messes. I feel like all I do is clean and it gets trashed five minutes later. Im a stay at home mom and my husband thinks I stick to schedules too much and I am always cleaning but it doesnt seem to help. Any ideas how to keep everything tidy.

Answer
Three under three is certainly going to put you in the position of cleaning all the time. While organization is a good goal, applying it will be very different at home than in an office -- or a home without children.

Keeping everything tidy is not a reasonable goal and you'd do well not to put that kind of pressure on yourself. With three toddlers, you'll maintain more of your sanity if your goal is to keep up with them.

I had three under three. Now I have three in college. The "mess" doesn't go away, it just changes shape.

Keeping a schedule (this happens at this time, that happens at that time) can be daunting with three little ones. A routine (this happens after this -- regardless of the time -- and then we do that) might be more accomodating for everyone, especially you.

Mornings can start when everyone wakes, not necessarily at 8AM. We eat, we clean up, we watch a program, we play outside, we snack, we play outside some more, we eat luch. This doesn't have to happen by the clock to go smoothly and successfully.

Do remember, "Stay at home Mom" doesn't mean you have to stay at home. Check into your local resources for playgroups and parks. Network with other moms about scheduling playgroups and exchanging babysitting.

Children cannot mess up what they can't reach, see, or know is there.

Keep breakables and other valuables up and away. If necessary, put them out of sight completely. While it may seem like you'll never see your things again, the reality is that the days are long and the years are short. This means you'll be bringing your things down and back into view before you know it.

Safety devices work in theory. In practice, small children are geniuses. Block outlets, unused radiators and cords with furniture. All lower kitchen cabinets should be child proofed with one exception. Here you would keep plastics the children can play with. Cooking around kids is dangerous. Cook in advance (when they're sleeping) and reheat later; tell your husband to keep the kids occupied; create meals out of raw fruit, raw vegetables and sandwiches. Puddings are great -- and much fun in the tub (see below).

Keep a minimum of toys available. A child with too many choices (more than 5 toys) can be become an overwhelmed child. A child with a toy that contains more than 5 pieces can also become overwhelmed. Simple blocks go a lot further than a box of action figures.

My rule of thumb was that if a toy couldn't go in the dishwasher or clothes washer, it wasn't a toy for my kids. This helped immensely on many levels, the least of which was cleanup.

If your kids have more than 5 toys each, stick the rest in storage. When you bring out all those "new" toys, put the other toys in storage. Change them out about every three months.

Messes will be made no matter what. To consolidate messes, never dismiss the wonders of the bathroom.

If you have a hand-held shower nozzle, explore the possibilities. During the colder months and during rainy days, I fed my baby during the day by putting her in her high chair and the high chair in the bathroom while the two older enjoyed their lunch on the tray that fit between the sides of the empty tub. When my baby was done eating I washed the older two and let them dress themselves. I then put the baby (still in the high chair) in the tub and washed her up along with the high chair. I'd take her out and let the high chair dry.

On warm days I used an empty inflatable kids' pool instead of the tub. After eating, I'd fill the pool with water and bath bubble mixture. If you have a sprayer on the end of the hose, you can get some rockin' bubble mountains going.

The beauty of inflatable pools and pool toys is that they can go inside in a bedroom (without water, of course). The inflatable toys that have slides and palm trees are great, but if all you can afford is a moderately sized inflatable pool, this can double as a napping place (with pillows, blankets, stuffed animals) and as a place to play or look at books. Very small pools can hold books or toys and make it easier for small children to learn organizational skills (books go in the pink pool and toys go in the blue pool).

The important thing is your peace of mind. Three small children are exhausting no matter what you do. Don't put extra (and unnecessary) pressure on yourself to do more, more, more. Keep it simple. The simpler things are for all of you, the more fondly you'll remember them at the end of the day, the more accomplished you'll feel, and trust me -- they'll remember the time you spent with them, not how tidy everything was.

Removing a dark solid color stain from multi-level decks?

Cravingsun

Last spring we decided to go with a redwood colored solid color stain. The purpose of this was to eliminate the need to restain (semi-tranparent) every year. Well, we are now not pleased with this new look. Our home is a light beige and the dark color of the deck does not look as good as once thought.
Any suggestions as to how I can change the look? Will I need to stip the solid color stain off? Should I try and match the deck to the house color? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
get a gallon of Decks Wash and pour into 5 gallon bucket and fill 3/4 full with water. add 1/2 cup bleach stirring the entire time to avoid chemical reaction foaming. roll out with 1" nap paint roller and let sit for about 15-20 min. rent a 3000 psi pressure washer (75.00 day) and wash against the grain with the widest spray nozzle choice (4" or so) they come on the rented sprayer with like 5 to choose from. against the grain is short ways across all the decking, not long ways following one piece. you will be back to bare in minutes. don't hold sprayer too close because you will scar the wood, and watch your feet!!! where do you live?....i could use the work. email me if you need more help with the re-staining

Can a 3000 PSI pressure washer do any serious damage or hurt someone? Obviously anything can if misused, but is this very powerful?

Answer
Most residential pressure washers are 1200 - 2000 psi.
3000 psi is pretty strong.
Volume is important also. 1 or 2 gpm (gallon per minute) is fairly easy to handle at higher pressures. 6 to 8 gpm would require safety equipment.

how much water pressure comes from a standard 5/8" garden hose?

I'm looking to get a pressure washer and I'm not sure what psi to get. The hose cleans some of the dirt but I need more pressure so I'm curious .... what is the water pressure coming through a standard 5/8" garden hose?

Answer
The pressure of the water hose is not the answer its how much water volume you can get out of it for the pressure washer that's what you should be concerned about. There is only about say 25 or 30 lbs on your house maybe 35psi but what you want to be worried about is the gallons per minute that you can get out of it. The pressure washer will not care if it gets 5psi feed to it as long as it can get all or more of the gpm that it is designed to pump. Where I hook up mine I have an irragation hose bib that opens a little wider than the regular ones to be sure my pressure washer gets the gpm that it needs.
