Water hose pressure washer adapter at lowes?

pressure washer nozzle size on ... Nozzle 1/4

Iron

Does lowes carry the adapter you can put on your garden hose to use it as a pressure washer? Also does this thing work good, anyone used it? Thanks.

Answer
Pressure washers INCREASE the pressure of the water entering the washer by means of a HIGH PRESSURE pump. Nothing that does not reach similar pressures will have the same effect.
(Pressure washers usually operate up to 1500 - 3000 PSI, up to 15 - 30 times Household water pressure.)

There are a few items that use compressed air to additionally pressurize the water, but they require a separate air compressor and a second hose and never reach really high pressure. (These can discharge at up to about 250 PSI, up to about 2 1/2 Times Household water pressure.)
http://www.expeditionexchange.com/staun/
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHBAT4G55T0
These are usually only used in industrial applications where compressed air is already available.

I am assuming that this is the sort of item you were looking to find.
http://www.asseenontvvideo.com/511962/Water-Jet-As-Seen-on-TV.html

This type of item DOES NOT increase the pressure coming into the device,
it merely maintains more of that pressure and hence has a somewhat increased force to the stream of water coming out of the tip, by simply reducing the size of the orifice (hole) at the end of the nozzle. (Household water pressure is usually under 100PSI.)

There are quite a number of common nozzles that achieve much the same effect at a much LOWER COST.

The Adjust-a-Power nozzle is a common one widely used by forestry fire fighters, and car washes.
http://www.dixonvalve.com/dpl/dpl_page/2007/239.pdf
http://www.jmesales.com/item/143575/Dixon-Adjust-a-Power-Nozzle.aspx
You may even find this type of nozzle at Lowes, Home Depot or your local hardware store.

An even cheaper unit to try that is sure to be available at Lowes, Home Depot or your local hardware store is a SWEEPER nozzle. Which has a smaller orifice than a regular Garden Hose Nozzle, but larger than the Adjust-a-Power nozzle.
http://www.dixonbrass.com/dpl/dpl_page/2009/029.pdf
http://www.jmesales.com/item/148800/Dixon-Brass-Sweeper-Nozzle.aspx

Keep in mind that when the orifice is smaller LESS water comes out per minute (or per hour) if you are at the same pressure, so with these devices if the water is doing the real washing it may take significantly longer to achieve the effect you want as well.

How do you remove the windshields washers nozzles on a Ford Taurus 1996?

**The star

Answer
The nozzle itself is a bend piece of tubing welded to a piece of sheet metal, held down with one screw. Remove the screw & the rubber hose... The squirt end of the tube is crimped to reduce it's size & increase the pressure of the washer fluid.

I am looking to repipe my house with copper plumbing. It is a 1950's house, 2 stories, 1.5 bathes, washer/dryer inside the house, water heater in basement and crawl space. I would expect 80-120 ft of copper piping (i guess multiply it by 2 for hot and cold); so 160-240 ft. I am looking for L copper pipes. Roughly how much should this cost?

Answer
Copper is great but I would also look into Pex Plumbing... especially for an older home. Itâs what many top-of-the-line new home builders are switching to. It's easier, safer and less expensive to install than copper or CPVC, is a stable commodity (the prices don't fluctuate like they do with copper) and the fittings are cheaper.

It's basically a very hard yet flexible durable plastic. The good ones can reach up to 986 PSI before bursting⦠which is cool. I think itâs AMAZING. I installed it in my home and am psyched about it. But then again I get giddy about weird things like this.

Hereâs why I prefer it, personally:
It is more sanitary (no calcium build up or copper contaminate and pex is more resistant to mineral, lime and scale build up.)
You wonât have to worry about future corrosion AT ALL.
Itâs quieter than copper an CPVC (and youâll notice that right off the bat)
Itâs cheaper
It absorbed water hammer into its walls (because itâs flexible). Copper tends to promote water hammer.
Itâs generally installed with Branch & tee with dedicated lines to each fixture⦠which basically eliminates temperature and pressure fluctuations.
Itâs more energy efficient & has less pressure loss ($$$ chaâching!)
It wonât be stolen by âcopper piratesâ
Itâs more resistant to freezing and doesnât require ANY repairs after thawing.
It doesnât require the use of an torch so when you install it there isn't an open flame.
The joints donât fail at high temperatures and velocities like copper joints tend to.
Itâs MUCH MUCH easier to repair (you canât make solder repairs with water in pipes w/copper plumbing. And pin hole leaks are MUCH less of an issue with pex.)

I'd definitly check it out and call around to get quotes on copper & pex. There are different brands of pex -we used Zurn in my house, my company swears by it and my builders LOOOVE it.

Best of luck!

Im really intserested in cars and i wanted to go to UTI and become a technician but i want to start my own business...Im only 17 in HS...i wanted to know how this can be achieved...Plz and thank you

Answer
in canada u can have ur own body shop and be self thought however this works for ppl who already have enough money and wouldn't need a loan from the bank..........u will need ur high school credits to get into college like centtenial or wherever u are to complete ur course.....by already having the fundamentals of this and the college background this would make the bank more confident to give u a loan to start up ur business, also bringing an uncle or mother and father at ur meeting with the branch manager would show their confidence and support.....good luck ppl in this business make a ton, I know b/c my hubby is a auto body tech and his boss lives in a mansion

Addtional- whoever u hire should have their own tools....Mac tools and many other places have their guys come around so u can buy on installments......u'll need a heist to lift cars, pressure washer, odds and end tools, $ to set up a paint booth, a computer and complete office to do the book work a few shelves or organizers on ur wall for odds and ends, a good tool box ( get one with bearings that's metal of course those cost $800 and up plus monthy rent for the unit u lease with extra for ur hydro bills........write down what u need and call up companies to get quotes on what things cost, check real estate listings for body shop units and what the avg unit rental fee is etc

Is ebay a good place to get cheap karchers or not?

or is it best to just go to the diy shop for one?

Answer
Certainly I agree in part with answer 1, as Ebay may seem like a great bargain, but if you're talking about something like a Karcher Pressure Washer, the shipping cost will likely be more than the bid/win.

Karcher is already at the low end of that type of tool/appliance anyway, and the money you save in shipping, even using gasoline to get to a store that sells them, might help pay a utility bill for a month

Another said that gives too much power and could damage shower.Take water as at present from attic tank even if power was not as strong and that some shower units were unsuitable for mains pressure.Advice welcome.

when u say main i assume u mean the main of the house, 3/4" , if this is the case then yes u do come off the main 3/4 and reduce to 1/2" keeping this as short in length as possible.....ur shower head will only allow 3 gpm unless u have a very old shower head or drill out the washer inside the unit to allow more gpm......

How much work is involved in refinishing a deck?

pressure washer equipment on Pressure Washing Services
pressure washer equipment image

LittleFree

My mom's deck is old but sturdy (she's renting too)... but I'd like to refinish the deck in exchange for their rent remaining the same for two years....

Before I open my mouth... just how much work am I looking at and where can I rent equipment???...

This is what I found on the internet.... didn't look impossible.

Refinish a deck:

1. Use a hammer to refasten protruding nails.
2. Trim raised edges with a sandpaper block, electric sander, or plane.
3. As needed, clean gray or dirty wood with a solution of 1 cup bleach in a gallon of water. Apply with a brush or broom.
4. Use a pressure washer to clean the deck, being careful not to damage the wood with excessive pressure.
5. Apply stain or wood preservative following the manufacturer's instructions.
6. Apply wood sealer following manufacturer's instructions.

Answer
In my work a large part of what I do is deck work. Certainly the most economical thing to do is rent a pressure washer and use it to bring back the deck to as close to orig. as possible. If in fact the wood was treated and isn't in bad shape, you might remove all the SILVER and find the deck looks pretty decent. Then seal it after it drys.

I choose NOT to use nails, and when replacing any popped up, I PULL them and use galvanized Deck screws.

Raised edges: Crazing/cupping/ cracking/crowning/warping in general, are usually things I replace. At the very least you might attempt removal of a piece and turn it over, judging the side that was down, and possibly OK in that any cup or crown might be acceptable on the flip side. I still suggest replace.

The balance of your list is fine, and it may be you don't need the bleach solution with a decent pressure wash. I choose NO chemicals, most especially because of safety issues and the damage to plant life. A nicely cleaned bleached deck might be great but the grass and other foliage on the surrounding property, might suffer.

How do you repaint a peeling deck?

brizkin1

I have a pressure treated deck that hasn't been painted for about 5 years. the paint is all peeling off in some places but the wood is in decent condition. I would like to know what I have to do remove the peeled paint and how to repaint. Do I need any special equipment (pressure washer/ paint sprayer) and do I need a primer since the deck doesn't have one?

Answer
Use a wire brush to remove as much of the loose paint as you can. I would then suggest an orbital sander with about 60 or 80 grit sand paper to remove the rest. A stripper would be too messy. But, sand paper with this big a grit should be able to remove the remaining paint with minimal clogging. When the paint is gone, switch to a 150 to 220 grit paper for final sanding. If you have a pressure washer, you can use it to clean the surface of sawdust before painting. Then put on a wood primer and paint away.

Answer
This it?

I didn't see anything in the manual.

Try taking the hose, wand, or both to a hardware store. They might be able to match up an adapter.

A small engine/equipment repair or rental outfit might have such an adapter they will sell you... or at least turn you on to a source.

How to repair a Karcher HDS 500 steam pressure washer or manuals?

kathyannag

I purchased a HDS 500 pressure washer that I believe burns diesel. I plug it in and the motor that pumps the water seems to blast at the first pull of the handle then slows alittle and I dont know how the igniter works to light the diesel, its 110 volt, I cant find anyone who works on these in my area. Springfield Missouri, anyone HELP!

Answer
Karcher is a good name brand. Go online to their website and on the contact us tell them what you need. Many that I have seen run on propane, but if you think it suns on diesel, then you would be better off getting Kerosene. It burns a lot cleaner. My neighbor cleans professionally and he has a big propane tank in the back of his truck that he uses to heat the water. I worked for a propane company and the ones we had run on propane too. If you have a tank on it though and are having problems with it igniting then I would change to kerosene. I write to many companies and I don't have trouble getting help from them or manuals.

Karcher 2400 PSI, Honda gas powered, from Costco, $299. Sorry, it seems that this model is no longer made. A co-worker recommended this model and I've been extremely satisfied. I've looked at a few websites and see that I can get gas powered washers for upwards of $400 and also get small electric ones for as low as $80. I understand that the big difference seems to be the pressure that each puts out (PSI) but that's all I understand.

Can I get a compressor so I can say attach a paint sprayer, a tire inflator and then attach a head so I can pressure wash? Or do I have to get a compressor for paint and air and then a pressure washer as well? I'm mostly interested in the washing part but would be nice to have an all in one solution if that is even available?

Its hooked up to a house spiket, I think it flows 6-8 gpm.

Answer
You didnt give much information as to what brand pump is mounted to the honda engine. But to venture an educated guess I would say Cam is right. The unloader valve is stuck in the unload mode. It could also be the "Easy-Start Spring" has broken and is locked in the start mode. (low pressure mode for easy starting of large horse power engines)

Answer
When a machine locks-up it is never a good thing. However we will do our best to get you going again!
There is some information we must have for a fair diagnosis.
Does it have oil, did it run out of oil before it locked-up?
Is there fresh gas in the tank?
Is the air filter clean?
Did the unit turn over?
Is there resistance when you pull the rope?
Is there spark to the spark plug?
With the answer to these questions a diagnosis can be more readily prepared for you.

Looking to purchase a gas pressure washer. Don't want to spend more than I have to. Traditional residential cleaning, siding kid toys, patio furniture, etc. I was looking at a 2600 but recently heard I need a 3000??? Any thoughts? Any specific models you like?? Thanks!!
it will be used frequently and those crummy 1500's don't do anything for siding. i know i need gas i'm just not sure if the 2600 is enough or if i should go for the 3000

Answer
A 2600psi or a 3000psi gas pressure washer can do some pretty serious damages but it doesn't mean you couldn't use those units for your applications. Many gas powered pressure washers will allow you to adjust the power level. You could use those pressure washers to wash your car and windows or strip paint off your old wooden fence. High power pressure washers will be A LOT more versatile than those underpowered 1500psi or 1800psi ones.

Honda is famous for their small gasoline engines. Like their cars and lawnmowers, their gas pressure washers also live up to this reputation. They are easy to start. They are easy on gas. And they will last for who knows how long with just regular maintenance. A 2600psi pressure washer is capable of making dents (with the "right" nozzle) on your stucco (or even your drive way) already and it will be good enough for residential cleaning. But since power levels could be adjusted, it won't hurt if you get yourself a bigger unit (if you think extra power is worth the cost). Our local Costco stores sells Honda pressure washers for under $500. Maybe you should check yours too. :)

PS: Be careful with those pressure washers. Always check the power setting before each use. I used the washer to wash my lawn chairs once. I didn't know the washer was set on full power and the jet stream cut the fabric on one of the chairs right open. There's another time when I used pressure washer to wash my motorcycle. Once again, I forgot to check the power setting and the first blast cut the saddle (seat) right open. After that incident, I ALWAY check the settings. LOL

PPS: Don't be tempted to test how powerful the jet stream is with your hand. Many high pressure washers are very capable of giving you very nasty cuts.

is a 2000 psi electric pressure washer good enough to clean siding and wood deck?

I am looking at purchasing a 2000 psi electric washer and want to know if that will be good for cleaning my wood deck and aluminum siding on my house? i also would use it for other smaller misc. cleanings.

Answer
the 2000 psi washer may cause a bit of damage if used too close to the wooden deck, but if used wisely and not on a too long deck it will be effective. If you take the nozzle too close you might see splinters especially if the wood is not very well seasoned. For a siding this will only be effective if the siding is small and neither very wide nor very long.
Best to use an adjustable washer where you can adjust the pressure and then buy something in the range of 3500 to 4000 psi maximum power. Depends on your budget!
To have a little extra power will help you use the washer for long time and will somehow minimize the maintenance.
Best of Luck!

What is the best chemical and procedure for pressure washing parking lots, awnings and wood on houses etc?

christian

WE would like to put our pressure washer to work and make a little extra cash. Can some one tell us the best chemicals and procesures to clean parking lots, houses, awnings? Thanks in advance for your time!

Answer
The very best chemical: water. Needs no cleanup, it's inexpensive, and fewâif anyâenvironmental consequences (except where water rationing is in effect). It works on most kinds of outdoor dirt.

The best technique is to determine how close the nozzle is from the surface before it begins to destroy it. Then back off 50% or more. This is the biggest danger of a pressure washer, even with things one might not think could be damaged. A marina I know has concrete docks with hundreds of 2 to 3 inch holes thanks to amateur power washing.

Awnings are not easy to thoroughly clean, and they are expensive to replace when damaged. I recommend you gain much experience with other items before attempting to power wash them.

2400 psi....used to have to hold the gun with both hands now I just go along with one hand on the nozzle and it takes FOREVER to clean just the walkway and I have to practically touch the cement to get it really good. There is a white, green, red, and yellow attachment. The red works really well but is pin point (draw your name type) and would take a REALLY REALLY long time to do anything. Any suggestions. I'm obviously not very technical so I would appreciate detailed information please and Thank YOu Very Much!!!! Engine runs fine just little pressure.
It's gas powered if that makes a difference lol

Answer
This could be several things....possibly the seals, or you may need to check the pump oil. Go to Sears, they sell pump oil, as well as several products designed to lubricate the pump and clean it as well. The attachments you describe are the different nozzle tips for various spray patterns. Do you run any chemicals through the unit?? If so - make sure that they are approved for this type of use, and NEVER run bleach through the unit (unless you thoroughly flush it out afterwards). You might also want to carefully dis-assemble the wand and make sure that there are no mineral deposits blocking anything. Check the water inlet screen (where you attach the hose, there should be a screen) make sure it's not clogged or blocked. Finally, consider using a chemical to "help" the pressure washer do it's job....for concrete, Home Depot carries gallon sizes of "Rust Aid" - use a pump-up garden sprayer, apply the Rust-Aid, let it "work" for 5 or 10 minutes then blast it off with the pressure washer.
