How many gallons/ litres of water required to wash an suv using pressure washer?
Could some please tell me the quantity of water required to wash a mid sized suv like Toyota FJ Cruiser or Nissan Xterra using a medium sized pressure washer(Karcher)?
Many thanks in advance.

Answer
I could answer more certainly if you listed the gallons per minute on your pressure washer but I used to clean industrial batteries with a pressure washer. I had a 30 gallon tank and that would last for quite a while. I think you would probably use about 10 gallons of water to wash an SUV if you're talking about spraying it down well, sponging everything, spraying off the soap, then spraying down the tires and rims.

If you're thinking of using a water tank keep in mind that some pressure washers don't work well without water pressure and all pressure washers have trouble starting without water pressure. The pump will pull more water in while its running but if it has air in it it won't pull water. you can cheat by putting the water tank higher than the pump. and depressing the trigger when the washer is off. that allows water to flow into the pump.

I took apart my pressure washer pump and gear oil has spilled all over. How do I reassemble?

X-Men

I took apart my Karcher K2400HH pressure washer pump unit from the engine and now gear oil is all over on the ground. I think I took the whole pump unit out and now I need to reassemble it back again. How do I put it back together, where do I fill the oil back in and what type of gear oil should I use? Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
I had the same problem with a Generac Model No 1537 2400PSI washer.!!! This unit has a 5.5 HP Honda engine.
I'm a builder, and one of my customers gave me this pressure washer after he had problems with it. Seems he left it with the gas in it for years and gummed up the carb. He told me his daughter ran it without the water turned on and burned up the pressure pump. He bought a new pump, but had no idea how to replace it. When I removed the old pump, I had a flood of oil on the garage floor. The new pump was a Briggs and Stratton kit #193473GS, and did not have the wet bearings of the original. It bolted right up to the bottom of the engine and works like a charm.. It took a little cleaning with Gum-out to get the engine running, but now it works fine.
I remember that there was a drain plug on the side of the pump shaft housing, but nowhere in the service manual did it tell you what weight oil went in there ,or how much.

my daughter was taking paint to the car so we could go get rid of it properly and tripped and spilled paint on the porch which is concrete and brick. Is there anyway to get it off. My husband was supposed to do it last weekend and didn't so now I am looking to do it myself.

Answer
dried paint on concrete is removable by a strong power washer and muriatic acid - very aggressive acid that is yellow and will burn you to the bone

you have to hang on to the washer

most people don't own one strong enough

we wash diesel truck engines with ours unless mom has snatched it to was her concrete or the shop floor

you can rent them -- they look like this

modifying pressure washer to air compressor?

Gavin Mc G

i have an electric pressure washer and was wordering if i could modify it 4 use as an air compressor i think its air cooled so the water dosnt cool it,i know id have 2 add an air tank and valves i was jus wondering if the motor would work?

Answer
The motor would work, the pump won't. Water is an imcompressible fluid, and the pump works at 1500-3500 psi - but only on that incompressible fluid.
Air is compressible, the pump volume is much larger and the pressure is much lower.

What are good hose replacement for AR 383 pressure washer?

Mr. Aztec

I have a AR 383 (blue clean) pressure washer which it came with a detergent bottle (which I find it useless). I want to replace the hose and as upgrade the gun with the wands. Anyone recommends me a good pressure gun to buy where I can attach a foam cannon and as well with good wands. Also I would like to replace the hose in order to make it compatible with the pressure gun.

Answer
The AR Blue Clean line uses proprietary connections so that you cannot use standard hoses and guns as replacements. This is like what Apple does with the iPhone. Fortunately, there are some adapters out there. Home Depot sells one, I'll put the link in my sources below. With this you could now attach standard hoses and guns/accessories. BE makes good guns and foam cannons, and goodyear makes good hoses. There are many other quality guns and hoses out there as well, BE's are just easier to find than some of the others.

Is it legal to use pressure washer to clean car?

pressure washer vacuum image

Tom

Hi, I would like to know if its legal to use pressure washer to clean car on a public road ?

Answer
Pressure washing contractors do it every day, the legal issue has to do with reclaiming the water. Some cities are mandating that if you wash a car with a pressure washer, you must have a system to vacuum the water back up. They state that cars get many contaminants that should not be washed down the drain. Some cities will require you to pick the water up, AND have a special permit to do so. Check my sources- I have included a forum discussion on this among pressure washer contractors, and a document from the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services. Check with your county, city, and state for the mandates to make sure you are not breaking any laws.

How do I start my own mobile detailing ?

Rafael

I'm 20 years old live in Los angeles I have a truck & some experience in detailing/washing & some clients!

What are the basics things too buy just too start ? Any heads up ?

I was thinking pressure washer vacumme Busines cards flyate generator & washing utensils & water tank?

I have $500-700 budget!

Answer
You just about got the list right, this actually was the very first business I did. You can get lots of the stuff at Pawn Shops or on Craigslist used for a good price. I would say a good vacuum first, washing utensils and then a pressure washer generator, try and get a quite running one.

What I did was start in the residential areas, in that way I could use the clients power and water. As my funds and clients built up I got into washing at commercial spaces where you would need to have your own everything. The key to this business is trust, people have to be able to trust you with their vehicle and it's contents. So make sure you look presentably, get maybe one or two shirts with your name and some simple logo so you look legit and just market like crazy and do a good job. Always ask for referrals, and give out tons of business cards in the areas you serve.

You can also rent equipment you don't have for now as well, so book several shampoo's in one day and rent the machine from HomeDepot for the day, same with the generator and pressure washer. Also put a nice heavy orbiter and buffer on the list as well. Look to buy your stuff also wholesale if you can as this will save you some money and you get commercial grade stuff which typically perform better.

Hope this helps if I can be of additional assistance please let me know.

Nozzle is adjustable - High Pressure or Low Pressure plus
Stream or Fan.

There are two coats of paint on the concrete.
Latex - Light Brown paint with Green (unknown paint type) underneath.

I have accidentally removed paint on otyher materials but never tried intentionally removing all paint from a concrete surface. Can I do this? Should I use some sort of solvent/cleaner in conjunction with the washer?

Thanks!

Answer
That thing will almost blast anything off,try it most likely it will work,my neighbor just used one around his house and it took of old grass carpet that they use to put on outside steps. So try it you have nothing to lose except your paint lol You can also try a hard wire brush to help the process. By the way 2550 psi is alot so id say you have a good chance at it.

nudayent

My driveway has oil and rust stains that i need to get rid of, says the HOA. How many psi's do i need and what solutions do i use to get the job done. Ive heard there are wimpy pressure washers and it would be a waste of time to use.

Answer
Drive-Up works great on the oil stains. Follow the directions closely. Muriatic acid, sold in 2-1 gallon packs at Lowe's or Home Depot will work on most other stains but NOT oil or grease. Start with about 3 gallons of water in a 5 gallon bucket. Add about half a quart *edit*, agitate lightly, and apply to wet (not puddled) concrete and scrub with a pole scub brush if possible, *end of edit* and see if that works. If not strong enough, add another half quart to the water. Never add the water to the caustic liquids. Always add the chemical to the water to reduce splash potential. Be very careful with this stuff. Use goggles and good gloves. Leave as little exposed skin as possible. As far as a pressure washer, 2000+ PSI. Play around with the different degree angle tips and distance and angle from the concrete. Work in even, straight lines and overlap your strokes a lil' bit. Doing a second pass perpendicular to the first will blend in any lines if you see any.

What kind of sand to use on patio brick pavers for sweeping into the joints?

art18vanda

I'm preparing to seal it as well. I'm going to pressure wash, sweep sand, then seal.

Answer
I have seen regular granular beach type sand, stone dust, and prepackaged from Home Depot or Lowe's granular sand specifically for patio paver applications all being used out in the field.

I installed a paver patio at my last house and used stone dust delivered by a gravel company and it worked great.

I have never seen nor heard of anyone using a pressure washer prior to sanding the paver spaces. Be careful not to ruin your sub-base.

Best of luck!

12 days since fire in my home, no furnace, no hot water heater. Landlord claims we have to deal with it?

Morgan

On May 5th 2013 around 2:30 am a fire started in my home. Our family was able to get out quick and safe. After the fire department extinguished the fire they came and spoke with us, The firemen stated that the fire had been started in our laundry room do to the hot water heater kicking on and ignited a basket of clothes in front of our washing machine. The fire department stuff the water off to the hot water tank. I contacted my landlord later on in the morning and he let me know that he would be letting the insurance company know about the fire on Monday (May 6th 2013) and he sent his wife over to my home with an ionizer to help dissipate the smoke in the air. After my landlords wife had left I sucked all on the water out of the carpet left behind from the fire crew and what was left in the hot water tank that had now leaked out all over the floor and into my carpets in other areas of my home
Monday morning I found my apartment under more water because a âvalve brokeâ from pressure of the water in the pipe from the fire department shutting the water off. I called the landlord office and informed him of this. Early afternoon my landlord stopped by with many people whom did not inform us of their titles. Later on in the day a clean up crew along with a plumbing company came by to asses the situation and drop off multiple fans for drying out the walls and floor and the plumbers fixed the pipe so it would no longer leak water all over our home.
Tuesday the insurance company came to take pictures and get our story about what had happened. The man with the insurance company had asked me about the cover to the pilot on the water heater. I personally have never touched the water heater but for one time when we first moved in because it was turn all the way down and we were getting no hot water in our shower! I did inform the insurance person about a time back in February when I had been suffering from a headache and realized that it was a gas leak, I called our gas company right away and they came out determined that there was indeed a leak leading to our water heater and they shut the gas off, I had contacted my landlord the next morning and he sent a company out that day to repair. I am assuming when they had fixed the leak and re lit our pilot they did not replace the cover to the water heater at that time.
Friday May 10th some men came to my home and demolished everything in our laundry room, removed the old water heater, furnace, floors, dry wall ceiling ext. At this time a man with the cleaning company had contacted me and told me that he had spoke with the landlord and because I do not have renters insurance I have to stay in my home or leave at my own expense. The man with the cleaning company suggested that I contact the landlord to see if he had another place we could move into in the mean time while they were fixing our home, but again at my expense.
I do not have renters insurance, I know that I am stupid for this but I have now been living in a home for 12 days with out hot water, or a furnace. The crew also left 7 industrial fans along with 2 dehumidifiers and a larger air purifier that has needed to be running 24-7. Do I still have to pay my electric bill? I got the bill today and it is 4 times our normal amount and that is just for a portion of the time they have been running? I need some advice I have been unable to find what I am looking for on the internet it would be helpful if someone could point me someplace to get answers!
I understand I had not renters insurance so non of my stuff will be replaced, I am not worried about the stuff I would just like hot water and heat, although it is spring I live in Michigan and it is still really cold at night here I have a 1 year old. A lot of people have been saying that it is against the law for me to not have a furnace and hot water? Then workers have not returned for a week, everything I have found has stated that the landlord must fist with in reasonable time? is 7 days no work reasonable time? and I am sure they are not going to show up over the weekend. I know that it takes time but 12 days with out hot water isn't the best situation and we can only bum showers from family members and friends for so long

Answer
Actually since you do not have renters insurance, you will be lucky if all you must pay for is an alternate living accommodations and the electric bill.

Usually a fire in your unit is completely your responsibility which includes all costs for repairs; any equipment that must be replaced; any damage to other units that must be fixed including the structure and wall, floor, ceiling finishes, wiring, plumbing. and so on
From what you are describing, this repair could cost many thousands of dollars.

Water Heater and plumbing - $500 to $1000

Furnace installation - $1000

Removal of drywall and cleanup could $5000 or more

If the washer and dryer has to be replaced, this can cost anywhere from $600 to $1000

Then there is the possibility the wiring in the laundry must be replaced which could cost $500 or more depending upon what has to be replaced.

Flooring and other incidentals can add up.

Costs could be 10 to 20 thousand dollars or more

If you get away with paying a high electricity bill and for another place to live while the work is completed. That is a real bargain.

Answer
Certainly I agree in part with answer 1, as Ebay may seem like a great bargain, but if you're talking about something like a Karcher Pressure Washer, the shipping cost will likely be more than the bid/win.

Karcher is already at the low end of that type of tool/appliance anyway, and the money you save in shipping, even using gasoline to get to a store that sells them, might help pay a utility bill for a month

I tried looking it up on Home Depot website but they don't have the prices listed. I'm just trying to get a general idea, not an exact price. Thanks.

Answer
I bought a pressure washer that I really like {unfortunately someone liked it right out of my truck at the store} from Home Depot Wacker it had everything us Johnny Homeowners need at the pressures we need not need to settle on. I water-blasted my house for painting and trenched under me sidewalk for a 1-1/4" drain effortlessly and controlled for a perfect fit with no big undermining blow outs, just a nice straight clean chute. I payed $200 for it and would pay that in 3 uses from rentals. They make some good ones if you do the home work or like me trip blindly over it lol.

HOT electric water pressures vs. COLD electric water pressures

Which is better for what duty? Is hot or cold better for vehicles, side walks, vinyl siding, windows, brick buildings/houses, wood, removing paint/stains, etc. And also- what is a good PSI for these sort of things? Thinking between 2000 and 4000? What is best..? Thanks!
YES!!! I'm sorry I do mean pressure washers!!!

Answer
Are you talking about a pressure washer? There are pressure washers used primarily by commercial companies that do in fact provide hot water, but these are very expensive. Regular cold water pressure washers come in a variey of psi levels, usually starting in at around 1,500 psi for an electric one, and around 2,000 psi for a gas powered one. The higher the psi, the more cleaning capability it has. The trick is to use a chemcial designed for the task you are doing, allow the chemical to "work", then rinse it off with your pressure washer. Far too many people rely on water pressure alone, which (depending on what it is that you're cleaning) may or may not do the job. For example, for vinyl siding, soffit and fascia, etc. I've used a mixture of bleach and liquid Spic 'n Span in a pump-up garden sprayer. Put a good amount of each in the sprayer, slowly add water then apply the mixture to the house. Allow it to work for 10 minutes or so, then follow up with a good pressure washer rinse. This kills the "critters", mold, mildew, and removes the dirt etc. For my painted concrete driveway, and brickwork around the house, I use "Rust-Aid" which is available at Home Depot. Apply full strength, allow it to work, then blast it off with the pressure sprayer.

hello, this weekend i am pressure washing a aluminum sided house, and we are using TSP mixed with Bleach to remove the green "algae" from the sides, i was wondering is it ok to run diluted bleach through a pressure washer without harm being done?

Answer
You will be fine. Most good power washers have a "crows foot"attachment for this--you just put it in the bucket or jug of whatever solution you are using and it draws it into the water stream, diluting it as it does it.
If you have concerns about the residual bleach in the washer just run plain old water through it for a minute.
