coleman pressure washer wand image

Cory

I bought a Coleman Powermate Clean Machine 1100 pressure washer a long time ago and it broke not to long ago. I would like to buy a part for it, the part is the "wand & nozzle assembly." I tried to find it on various websites but on every website I tried that part was "no longer available." I really need the part and hope someone can help me. If it helps the model number is PW0711100.

Answer
Try a request on Craig's List. Don't list your address, though. Just a contact number.

Honda 13hp (GX390) - Governor wont maintain engine speed?

pressure washer 4000 psi honda on ... Series 4000 PSI Gas Pressure Washer with 24 HP Honda Engine | Wayfair
pressure washer 4000 psi honda image

eight_kind

I have a 13hp honda GX390 on my pressure washer. I use it commercially to make my living. It does the job, but my 4000 PSI 4 GPM pump will only put out about 2200psi. I have discovered (by adding a tachometer/hour meter) that the engine speed drops to about 2800 RPM when I pull the trigger. With the trigger released, the pressure on the gauge shows 4000 like it should, and the tach reads a little over 3600 rpm.

I discovered the governor is not opening up the throttle like it should. I can reach over and work the governor by hand and reach the speed I desire with the trigger pulled, which tells me something with the governor is not right.

I did notice it is missing the long skinny spring that runs between the governor arm and the carburetor, but I dont think thats the issue really. The governor DOES seem to kick the throttle wide open when the engine is off, but thats it. I'm confused. If it will do that, why wont it maintain engine speed under load?

I replaced the carburetor with a brand new one today with no change.

Help please!

Answer
that missing spring is the problem. Take the unit to the service center and have a new spring in stalled. It is your livelihood at risk. A couple of hours lost time should pay for the service time.

How do you prevent barnacles from attaching to alluminum pontoon boat used in salt water and brakish water?

pressure washer trailer on Pressure Washing Trailer Hot Water Power Washer Mobile Cleaning ...
pressure washer trailer image

Jon M

I have a new Avalon Pontoon Boat which has been in salt water for one month. I pulled it out recently and found a considerable amount of baricles attached to the pontoons and the motor. What can I use to reduce or prevent this problem. I used a pressure washer to remove as many of the barnicles from the engine and pontoons, but portions of the pontoons can not be reached while on the trailer. Even after powerwashing with straight water, there is a roughness to the pontoons. What can be done to remove the roughness and coat the pontoons.

Answer
+ first you need to get all of the barnacles off. If that means jacking up the pontoon boat from the trailer one section at a time then that's what you have to do. Be really careful, and place safety blocks and dun age where you can so that there is no danger of having it fall on you or getting stuck. Next you need to clean the portion of the boat to as smooth as you can get it. The smoother the surface the better. I have seen people use a good quality paste wax to make it smooth and I have seem sail boat racers use a coat of soap to smooth the bottom and prevent barnacles but they are very temporary solutions as barnacles are pervasive. The longest lasting solution is the use of a good marine bottom paint at least two coats. Even that will not last a whole season. Interlux and Petit are the ones I have tried so far.
Good Luck, work safe, and
Happy Holidays

I am a mobile car detailer - Can i replace my bulky 4kw generator with an inverter to run off 12v battery?

cdjr36

i need more room in my van so want to get rid of bulky 4kw generator. I need 4kw to boot up my 1.5kw pressure washer.

Answer
The current required from the battery will be 4000 watts / 12V = 333 amps. You will need very large wires to the inverter. Even running current 1500 watts / 12V = 125 amps. Is the alternator in the car capable of supplying this much current to keep the battery charged? I suspect you'll be hard pressed to make this work with the stock alternator. Upgrade the alternator and battery and you may have a chance.
Perhaps you could mount the generator on a trailer hitch carrier to free up space within the van.

pressure washer jetter attachment image

Dave

Answer
You can build or buy a sewer jetter attachment for your pressure washer for less than $150. A sewer jetter is a thin, high-pressure hose with a jet nozzle that pulls the hose into the drain and breaks up the clog. With a sewer jetter you typically start from the main drain cleanout outside your home or in your basement, or from a drain opening such as an inlet under a sink that's upstream of the clog. Search online for "build or buy a pressure washer sewer jetter."

Where can you buy E10 fuel for power washer?

Melixx28

We recently purchased a new Homelite 2700 PSI Pressure Washer. Usually my dad knows which fuels to purchase. Were confused as to where to buy E10 FUEL/GAS. Is it the same thing as regular fuel you get from the gas station?

Answer
Almost all gasoline is ethanol-blended now, so you should be good as long as you don't get the E85.

If you got pure-grade gasoline, I doubt it would cause a problem. Even E15 is unlikely to be a real issue, but most places are E10, so don't worry too much about it.

whats a good pressure washer for residential use . siding ,decks, driveways, etc. thanks

Answer
Sears, Lowes, and Tractor Supply are all good places to buy Pressure Washers.

Be careful of the Coleman PW's in Lowes. They are made in China and are basically junk.

2000-2500 PSI should be enough to handle almost any job.

Lowes does carry Honda powered PW's, but the Briggs and Stratton powered PW's are much cheapier with almost un-noticable quality differences.

i have the water hooked up and when i pull the trigger it boggs down and dies

Answer
daniel, it could be a whole lot of things. you should have the water hooked up and running before you even start it.
does it start easily; how long does it run; has it been fine, and just started this; have fresh gas; clean air filter.
have you checked anything on it or know how.
would be glad to try and help. post some update or email or such.

Virgil J

the pump is red with AAA on front label the tag says #6 tip 2200 trying to find out how many gpm.

Answer
You have a 2200 PSI "pounds per square inch" pressure washer. It all depends on the pump manufacturer as to how many GPM your pump can push. It could be as low as 2.0 or as high as 4.5 GPM. One example of a CAT pump is this setup,Cat Pump, 2200 psi, 4.2 GPM, 900 PSI operating pressure. This may or may not be your pump. A Simpson name brand is just that, a name brand. Although Simpson used to make the best washers in the USA, the industry has moved to cheaper and cheaper garbage from China.
My Simpson has a plate on the left side. Mine also has a CAT pump on it and you can get the Model numbers off the pump and look it up on the CAT/Caterpillar web site.

has anyone ever rented a pressure washer? where did you rent one from and about how much did you pay?

Mono

the home i am renting needs a good cleaning! so i was thinking of doing that this weekend. not sure if i should go to Lowe's or home depot..... thanks for your input!
oh yeah how did it work did you just hook it up to a hose? i have well water does that matter?

Answer
Most rental yards have pressure washers. Its been a long time since I rented one. I would expect to pay $40-50/day. It hooks up to a regular garden hose. The only concern is if your well has enough gallons per minute for the washer to work properly. As a painting contractor I pressure wash many houses and decks every year. My big pressure washer is rated for 4 gallons per minute, my smaller one is 2.5 GPM. Before I hook it up I time how long it take the hose to fill a 5 gallon pail. If it takes longer than a minute I know not to use the bigger machine.
I don't recommend the rotating tip for beginners. Its true that it can do the job faster but it can do lots of damage if you are not careful. Sometimes the rotating feature gets stuck and leaves you with a narrow high pressure stream. Play it safe and use a 25 or 40 degree fan tip. Keep the water moving without stopping in one spot. That can cause damage if the water gouges the wood.
Most of the houses I work on have well water. I find about 1 in 10 don't have enough flow to use my 3500 psi, 4 GPM machine. I have only found 1 where I couldn't use my smaller washer.

How many gallons/ litres of water required to wash an suv using pressure washer?
Could some please tell me the quantity of water required to wash a mid sized suv like Toyota FJ Cruiser or Nissan Xterra using a medium sized pressure washer(Karcher)?
Many thanks in advance.

Answer
I could answer more certainly if you listed the gallons per minute on your pressure washer but I used to clean industrial batteries with a pressure washer. I had a 30 gallon tank and that would last for quite a while. I think you would probably use about 10 gallons of water to wash an SUV if you're talking about spraying it down well, sponging everything, spraying off the soap, then spraying down the tires and rims.

If you're thinking of using a water tank keep in mind that some pressure washers don't work well without water pressure and all pressure washers have trouble starting without water pressure. The pump will pull more water in while its running but if it has air in it it won't pull water. you can cheat by putting the water tank higher than the pump. and depressing the trigger when the washer is off. that allows water to flow into the pump.

Is it possible to convert a pressure washer into a flamethrower?

Philip C.

Do most commercial pressure washers leak? I don't want to run the risk of a tank full of alcohol leaking on a portable electric power cell.

Answer
Wow.
Where to start?
I don't think the internal components are capable of withstanding attack from the alcohol which would certainly lead to leaking.
You need a way to safely pressurize the alcohol.
The tip and the nearby region needs to be heat resistant (metallic), most are just high performance plastic in a regular (non-flamethrower)pressure washer.
After solving those problems, there is the inherent danger of flamethrower operation and potential runaway combustion and explosion. I guess I would advise proceeding extremely carefully or completely abandoning this project to be safe.

I've got a Husky 1750 psi power washer. Want it for my carpet cleaning wand. Too much psi? hot water okay ?

pressure washer with cat pump on Pressure Pro E4040HC 4000 PSI Gas Pressure Washer 4.0 GPM CAT Pump ...
pressure washer with cat pump image

paulj0557-

Alright, I know many of you might be saying 'why in the heck do you want all of that pressure for a carpet wand which usually only needs about 300-500 psi even from a truck?! Well, I do have a nice Cat brand truck pump and yes, I run it at about 300 psi. Anything higher wastes water, and when switching to a hand tool for steps and upholstery you really need even less pressure.
So after all of this why use a 1750 psi? Well, it's all I have and I need to clean a high rise building so I have to use portable equipment. I DO have plenty of suction power so I'm sure that the extra pressure I'm putting down will get extracted fine. So this is not an issue.
Soooo my questions are these:
1. Can the seals in this pump ( typical cupped rubber seals X 4) handle the hot water supply from a typical hot water tank?
I do have a post inline hot water heater that I will heat the water further AFTER it leaves the pump.
2. Is there an inexpensive ( cheap DIY way) means to reduce the pressure from the pump? Also, since I have 4 jets on my wand will this pressure of 1,750 psi be reduced by 4, thus about 425 psi per jet?
Thanks for any help. No answers will be too far fetched considering I am on a budget here, and there is a short time frame in which I have to get this put together.

Answer
If I were you i would look at your insurance policy very carefully. You are using equipment outside its designed parameters, and if anything goes wrong you will be completely on your own.

Need Help purchasing pressure washer for commercial/residential work, decks primarily?

This unit will get approx.10-20hrs a week usage. Here's what I've been considering:
1} Simpson taskmaster PS4000 3.5gpm 13hp honda gx,simpson tri pump. approx$1400
2} Landa 3200 3.5gpm 13hp honda gx,landa tri pump . approx.$1600
3} Pressure pro 4000 psi 3.5gpm 13hp honda gx w/ general pump ez4040 approx.$1200
These are direct drive units / OR is there a better option ?
Thank You

Answer
Mike,

Good question. I use a 3 GPM 3200 PSI machine for decks - 9hp Honda, Cat pump.

I also own several 4 GPM machines - 13hp, but tend to use them on other surfaces than wood. The reason is, the extra force of a 4 GPM machine will make the wood 'pill' much easier. If I am going to stain a deck after stripping the wood and there are a lot of pills on the wood, I have to sand the surface.

Sanding also closes the pores of the wood and I need for the stain to be absorbed in the wood. Kinda a 'Catch 22'.

Yes, I know other pressure washers who use 4 GPM machines on wood and do just fine with it, but there is always some degree of pilling. A 3 GPM does it just right using the white tip (40 degree).

Note: I've always had luck with Landa, General and Cat pumps. Other machines with Simpson and AndoReversibi pumps blew up within a year or two.

You might check out Craigslist for machines that are one year old as they will be much less in price than what you have quoted and still have plenty of life in them. Always good to buy it when the weather is cold. Just my opinion.

Feel free to contact me if you need further help. I've made most of the mistakes that can be made and don't mind helping someone out of my local area - no competition.

how to select a nozzle for a power washer?

pressure washer turbo nozzle on Pressure cleaners | pressure washers | Lift Truck Services | Spitwater

Answer
Pressure washer nozzles are rated by the "degree" of spray that is ejected at the tip.

A "0" tip is like a squirt gun. It can remove baked on bubble gum off the sidewalk and when the water pressure is in the 3000 psi range, it can shoot a stream of water 20 feet away. Great to wet down the neighbors when they party past 10 pm.

A "5" tip is a 5 degree spray pattern. This is the next strongest and suitable for removing tough grime at far distances (3 to 12 inches away).

A "15" tip is a 15 degree spray pattern. This is the most commonly used because it is a compromise between great cleaning ability and not too much pressure that will leave behind the tell tale spray marks of a pressure washer.

A "25" tip is a 25 degree spray pattern. This is for general light duty or repetitive cleaning. It is strong enough to clean better than a garden hose and can be used frequently without worrying about spalling or otherwise damaging concrete from too many cleaning cycles.

A Turbo Tip is the newest and most productive pressure washer tip. It uses a ceramic ball bearing inside a stainless steel housing and allows the spray pattern to oscillate. This is the newest and fastest way to clean difficult jobs and leaves behind hardly any cleaning marks. When backed with 3000 PSI, you can't beat the efficiency and cleanliness of it all. Costs about $50 for this tip but I highly recommend it!

Good Luck

Starting a detail/washing business?

Anthony Ko

I'm 16 years old and I want to start my own washing/detailing service. I am going to be legit and buy from top notch companies and always do my best. I was wondering if this is a smart investment for my age. I'm going to spend about $600 of my own money in this business. How can I start the business and expand it? What should I start out with and what should my prices be? My family has owned multiple full service car washes and one day I will take over but why not start now? Any advice is helpful thank you! Also what pressure washers would you recommend

Answer
1. Do your Homework before you invest.
I suggest you rent a pressure washer for the weekend or if you already have one or can borrow one, pressure wash your own house. Keep in mind it will be harder for you at this stage because you will not have all the right tools and the experience. (IT GETS EASIER)

2. I suggest starting the business on the side (Don't Quit your Day Job). A lot of the work can be scheduled around your schedule on Nights and Weekends.

3. Create a catch name that reflects what you do.
examples.
Mikes Pressure Washing
Water Blasting of Crystal Beach
Ship Shape Pressure Washing (*Specialize in cleaning Hulls of Boats)
you get the idea.

This is going to be important when it comes to advertising especially online advertising for SEO purposes.

4. Now that you have a Name. Let's get set up with the basic equipment to get STARTED (*This is just a list of things to get you goin')

Purchase or Acquire the following items.
* 20" Flat Surface Cleaner - $400 or more
* Turbo Nozzle - $60
* X-Jet - $130
* 24' Extension wand - $150
* 100' of 3/4" quality water hose - $50
* Get a Website or Landing Page - I can set you up on www.pressurewashingpowerwashing.org/yourname.html for a $25 setup fee and provide content for a 1 page landing page.
* Get a list of Equipment rental companies to rent equipment
(I suggest rent equipment for the first 5 jobs so the business can pay for its own equipment) Home depot rents pressure washers for about $60 per day you may also try other rental companies also.

5. MARKETING

Let's get this party started.
* Have web page created ** MUST **
* Open Google Adwords Account Deposit $100 into this account ** MUST **
* Open CraigsList Account ** MUST **
* Business Phone # ** MUST **
* Business Cards - This can actually wait if you want to
* Go to Office Depot and get a simple sale receipt book.

6. I am assuming you already have a truck or van or trailer you can tow.
Search eHow for articles on setting up a business
*Checking Accounts / Financial Software
*DBA / Regulations / etc.

Installing a PEX Manifold?

pressure washer manifold on Karcher Pressure Washer Manifold with Pressostat Spring Assembly ...
pressure washer manifold image

mamba

I am in the planning phase of my PEX re-pipe, and have a question on Manifold placement.

I live in one-story single family home 4 bedroom 2 bath

How far can the manifold be from the water heater?

The home is about 45 feet wide running North/South. The water line in is on the North side of the home. The water heater, backyard Spigot (sprinklers) and MAIN bath room is on the North side as well, but the Kitchen, washer/dryer, and 2nd bathroom are on the South side.

I've always heard that the Manifold should be near the Water Heater, but what is near? if I put the Manifold on the North side, the longest runs would be to the Kitchen, etc...If I put it on the south side, it would be more convenient i.e. less work to run the lines, since the majority is on the south side, but it would be some distance from the water heater, and the main bath.

So, how far is too far? I don't have a large home, so I'm hoping placement isn't be an issue.

If I were to put it on the southside, then it would be a 29 foot run to the water heater, and a few feet longer to the MAIN bathroom. Yet, if I put it on the North side, then it would be a 29 foot run to the kitchen, etc..and be a lot harder to run the lines.

What are your thoughts?

Answer
I just did my home myself a few months ago... it is said that it should be at leAST 5 FEET AWAY. mine is about 25' away and the pressure is awesome.

What will happen if I accidently washed the engine of my car?

JJ Lee

My nephew washed the engine of my car while I was'nt with him and I'm afraid to start my engine back. My car is Lexus LS 430. Thanks.......

Answer
if i was you i would open the air filter and that no water has got into it. If it's nice and dry then no problem, if there is water in there then it needs to come out( and out of the inlet manifold as well if it has got that far) as water being sucked into the engine will cause MAJOR engine damage. Apart from that i can't see there being any issues.
EDIT
i don't know who has given my answer a thumbs down? If a pressure washer was used to clean it then it is quite possible that water has got into the air filter inlet. If so then it can and will cause damage. If you remember from your science lessons WATER IS NOT COMPRESSIBLE and if it goes into the cylinders the it can easily snap a conrod or damage piston rings or valves as you turn a cold engine over to start it!

I may seem harsh but I have had good luck using a pressure washer to clean this type of thing. Obviously need to sand afterwards, but it seems, when careful, to do exactly what you want.

I've got a spare 2 stroke 50cc engine which runs great but i don't know what to use it for...I was thinking of putting it on a micro scooter for jokes and welding a sprocket onto the back wheel but it's gonna be hassle.....any ideas for anything interesting i could use it for?

Answer

im mostly going to use it to wash my car once a week.
What psi is best to use when washing car ?
Does it matter if its electric or gas ?

Answer
Maximum of 1600 psi electric is more than adequate for your car and not to harsh to damage the finish. Gas powered pressure washers i would only recommend if you cleaning a bus but not a car.

I've always wanted one for hurricane season, we've been without power for weeks at a time on 2 occasions. But I've never known anyone who has actually used one and I don't want to buy it without getting some opinions first.

Answer
I have used one in my motorhome. It seems like a tidy way to handle clothes washing. The crank handle feels flimsy, but it does not seem to break easily. I gave mine away because of not using it. I think that the "pressure" part of the name is just a gimmick. You still have to wring the clothes by hand. At home I use an old fashioned glass washboard for hand washing. It works better, but is a lot messier. Be sure to keep fresh extra thick rubber gloves stashed for the emergencies.

I am trying to find out what the torque pressure is on a GX390 Honda power washer

Answer
First off, a Honda GX390 is an engine. The washer pump is separate, my guess would be with that size engine that you are getting around 2500-3000 psi. I assume that is what you're asking.
