i bought some tubing from a hardware store but it burst what kind of tubing do i need ? thickness of wall do i need? would stainless steel be cheaper ...? i need to make the end bend in the shape of a hook for cleaning gutters my pressure washer is 2900 psi ...... no go and amaze me this is why i come here .
meant to say now go and amaze me

Answer
Aluminum cannot handle high pressure all that well as you have seen. It will handle 2900 PSI if the wall thickness is thick enough. My guess is your first tube burst at the bend. Bending the metal will weaken it. Aluminum is not very ductile (bendable) so it tends to fracture easily when it is bent. You will have this problem even with a thicker wall tube.

Stainless steel would be far stronger and with the right wall thickness could easily handle the pressure and bending. The BIG drawbacks are the it is very hard and not easy to bend and also is very heave compared to aluminum. A 16 ft piece of 1/8" wall tubing would weigh more than 40 lbs. Not something you want to lug around all day.

The only thing I know that is light enough and strong enough is composite materials. They cannot be bent after they are laminated up so the bend would have to be part of the manufacturing process. Very, very expensive.

Good luck

How do I clean my boat bimini top without taking it off?

Kristy H

The boat was stored for a while under trees in the heat and it now

Answer
I have a small Sears gas powered pressure washer I keep on my live-aboard boat. At a cost of about $200 (it was on sale) it is undoubtedly one of the best investments I ever made for cleaning my boat. It puts out a good amount of pressure (so you have to be careful not to get the wand too close, or you will rip, tear, or put holes in stuff). But it cleans everything! Will absolutely make your bimini top look brand new. I use it on my hull, sides, cabin, engines, canvas, deck, shoes, car, everything! No soap or chemicals required.

Happy & Safe Boating,
John

PS. Someone needs to invent a very small electric power washer you can use with one hand, at a sink, to clean small parts, tools, filters, shoes, hats, etc.

Beatrice L

ive been invited to go to an people to people ambassador trip to australia and need $7000 to go ..what are some really good reasonable fund-raising ideas????...i really want to go HELP!
and i need it my this summer (june)

Answer
You do not let us know the time frame.

Here are some thoughts. If you are competent enough, I would even suggest that you become licensed as a consultant and sell either investment advice or insurance advice. The seven thousand could be earned with just a few clients.

In fact, if the other ideas do not comport to your situation, contact me through Yahoo Answers if you know some individuals who have not yet put their financial affairs together in such a way as to lessen income taxation. I would consider funding your trip through a legal contract...if you are old enough to satisfy your state's requirements for acceptance.

Other methods:
1) Print first aid information on a single page. Include phone numbers for hospitals and national numbers such as the poison control center. Sell them door-to-door. You will need about seven thousand buyers.

2) Speak with neighbors. Offer to clean around, and under, the washer and dryer, with special emphasis on getting out the built-up dust in the dryer's exhaust vent. Include information from your local fire department about the risk of fire from accumulated lint now remaining in the vent tube. At twenty dollars per home, you will need about 350 customers.

3) Look up stocks that have paid dividends every year for over eighty years. This means they have paid through recessions and the big depression. Sell this information to adults as a news service. (If you try to offer investment advice, you will be breaking the law. This information should be sold as news.) Especially helpful to local professionals could be local stocks that have long track records, even if they do not meet the big depression requirement. This is probably too hard a method, but it should be considered. You can employ that information for yourself.

4) Call investment professionals in your area. Call life insurance salesmen in your area, too. Offer to clip the press releases printed in your local papers (especially the business press). Tape each release to a single sheet of binder paper. Look up the phone number of the person in that news release. Sell the information to one agent for two or three dollars per person after he makes his first sale; one dollar per person before that first sale. You can even raise the price to ten dollars per person after he makes his tenth sale. This payment arrangement offers the salesman the opportunity to earn from your efforts without going broke. It also allows you to establish a clientele. The number of clients will depend upon their effectiveness. You may only need fifty or a hundred professionals. If you become licensed, the state will allow you to share the fees. You could have your seven thousand in a matter of three months or less.

5) Learn how to set a sprinkler system timing clock. Go door-to-door offering to re-set the clocks as the seasons change. Keep the names handy, as you will return every quarter for resets. Fifty clients once each quarter, youngster, and you can start making plans for buying a car for cash. This could require 700 clients. Yuk.

6) Offer to drain the hot water heater of the sediment. Since one of the chief causes of HWH failure is the build-up of the sediment, you can save your clients from replacing their water heaters soon. You can also offer to leave an inexpensive hose attached to the drain valve. Then, when you return every six months, you only need take the far end of the low pressure hose out of the garage, turn on the spigot, and let five gallons out. Leave that thin hose extended and against the wall of the garage. Twenty per home, with the cost of the hose paid for by the homeowner, you are looking at 350 customers again.

7) Offer to read a chapter of the Holy Bible to families in the area. They can even work in the kitchen, as an example, while you read.

TIP: Have a spending, investing, and cash handling system in place!!!

If you do not have a responsible program established, please contact me through Yahoo Answers. Ask for the Financial Freedom Plan of Seven. I will be pleased to send it to you through YA at no charge.

Earning cash is important. Handling cash is critical.

I have a brand new (not used yet) Craftsman pressure washer. I cannot find anywhere in the manual where it talks about pump oil. Is there even oil in the pump, do i need to change it periodically? I don't want to do something incorrect and end up paying for avoidable repairs.
Forgot to add this is a gas unit but i am wondering about the water pump, not the engine.

Answer
don't think there's oik in it unless its a gas powered unit and then if its a 2 cycle gas engine they take a gas/oil mix in the tank and do not require oil in a crankcase

how do i change the oil on a troy bilt pressure washer?

Randi M

I need help finding out where the oil plug is located on a troy bilt pressure washer model number 020344 before I can change the oil. I would like to do this before I use it this summer.
Thanks for any help.

Answer
The manual states you can change the motor oil from the top by tipping it over and drain it from the dipstick hole with the air clearer side up as you tip it. You can drain it from the bottom by removing drain plug with a ratchet and square extension, oil can be drained from engine bottom. Also you must change the pump oil every 50 hours or once a year according to the manual. To change the pump oil, use a 8mm allen wrench to remove black pump oil cap between high pressure outlet and garden hose inlet. I have this pressure washer and I change the oil from the bottom. There is no drain hole near the dipstick on mine

Is it possible to convert a pressure washer into a flamethrower?

pressure washer with tank on Pressure washer equipment | Tank cleaning | Industrial cleaning | High ...
pressure washer with tank image

Philip C.

Do most commercial pressure washers leak? I don't want to run the risk of a tank full of alcohol leaking on a portable electric power cell.

Answer
Wow.
Where to start?
I don't think the internal components are capable of withstanding attack from the alcohol which would certainly lead to leaking.
You need a way to safely pressurize the alcohol.
The tip and the nearby region needs to be heat resistant (metallic), most are just high performance plastic in a regular (non-flamethrower)pressure washer.
After solving those problems, there is the inherent danger of flamethrower operation and potential runaway combustion and explosion. I guess I would advise proceeding extremely carefully or completely abandoning this project to be safe.

How many gallons/ litres of water required to wash an suv using pressure washer?
Could some please tell me the quantity of water required to wash a mid sized suv like Toyota FJ Cruiser or Nissan Xterra using a medium sized pressure washer(Karcher)?
Many thanks in advance.

Answer
I could answer more certainly if you listed the gallons per minute on your pressure washer but I used to clean industrial batteries with a pressure washer. I had a 30 gallon tank and that would last for quite a while. I think you would probably use about 10 gallons of water to wash an SUV if you're talking about spraying it down well, sponging everything, spraying off the soap, then spraying down the tires and rims.

If you're thinking of using a water tank keep in mind that some pressure washers don't work well without water pressure and all pressure washers have trouble starting without water pressure. The pump will pull more water in while its running but if it has air in it it won't pull water. you can cheat by putting the water tank higher than the pump. and depressing the trigger when the washer is off. that allows water to flow into the pump.

Where does the thermal relief valve go on a Honda Excell XR2600 Pressure washer?

pressure washer pump parts image

Greg

I have a 5hp Honda Excell XR2600 pressure washer. I talked to the reps on the phone and they told me it was the thermal relieve valve was the problem I was having. It would make pressure sometimes and then othertimes not. I got the part 16484 and I just don't see where it goes. I have had the pump off and I still don't see where it goes. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
I'm afraid the rep may have mislead you. The thermal relief valve only activates if the pump over heats by releasing hot water from the pump to make room for cooler water. It does nothing for making pressure. The pressure problem you describe would be connected with either the pressure relief valve, or the pump valves, or both.

i have a mobile detailing service, my pressure washer locked up and i let it sit for a couple of days and tried to start it again now its turning over but wont start can you help me?

Answer
When a machine locks-up it is never a good thing. However we will do our best to get you going again!
There is some information we must have for a fair diagnosis.
Does it have oil, did it run out of oil before it locked-up?
Is there fresh gas in the tank?
Is the air filter clean?
Did the unit turn over?
Is there resistance when you pull the rope?
Is there spark to the spark plug?
With the answer to these questions a diagnosis can be more readily prepared for you.

how to unclog main drain with pressure washer?

pressure washer sewer jetter on HIGH PRESSURE WASHER WATER PUMP 4350 PSI TRIPLE PISTON PUMP 18LPM SUIT ...
pressure washer sewer jetter image

Dave

Answer
You can build or buy a sewer jetter attachment for your pressure washer for less than $150. A sewer jetter is a thin, high-pressure hose with a jet nozzle that pulls the hose into the drain and breaks up the clog. With a sewer jetter you typically start from the main drain cleanout outside your home or in your basement, or from a drain opening such as an inlet under a sink that's upstream of the clog. Search online for "build or buy a pressure washer sewer jetter."

Using a power washer to unclog a roof drain?

sean94110

We got our first storm of the season and I noticed today that the roof drain is slow draining/clogged. It's a flat roof that slopes into a 3" cast iron drain pipe. I put a snake down and it stops about 6 feet down where the pipe has a slight bend (maybe 60 degrees).

The pipe has a cleanout further down in the garage but these pipes are probably as old as the house (1926)and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to get them off without hurting myself in the process.

So my question is - would it be wrong to try blasting water from my 1500psi power washer down the drain to see if I could clear the blockage? Any other ideas?

Answer
A sewer jetter is a machine designed to clean out pipes and lines, and it is really just a pressure washer with a pulsing valve and special hose/nozzles. You can even buy a jetter valve for your pressure washer to turn it into a sewer jetter. I will include a link in my sources to an article on hose size vs. pipe size. I also explained sewer jetter's in a recent Yahoo Answers question, so I'll link it as well. Bottom line, it is worth a shot, and if it doesn't work, you may be able to clear it out by getting some sewer jetter hose and nozzles that are designed for this kind of think.

I work on pressure washers for a living and see this daily! It's just an "O-Ring" has split and is allowing water to leak out. Find the o-ring that isn't an "O" but more of a "C" and replace it, problem solved! Sears has o-ring kits in the stores with several sizes of o-rings in it. Where i work we use power washers to clean, machines are rated at 1500 psi, the problem is that hoses get small ruptures and instead of replacing a $110.00 hose each time i want to repair it so hose can be used again

Answer
You may be able to cut out the small section with the hole and splice the hose back together with a brass coupling piece, or several eauipment rental stores can install a hydraulic fitting for you to repair the hose. You might be approaching the cost of a new hose with the cost required to make any repairs, so you'll have to decide if it's worth the trouble.

What size pressure washer is good for cleaning a deck?

BigRed

Hi i am looking at buying a pressure washer to clean my deck and to clean my house i found a 2600psi for $299 and a 3000psi for $399 both have a Honda motor. I was planing on using it to clean a couple other houses and decks is it better to get the bigger one or should i stick with the 2600psi?

Answer
The cleaning power is roughly proportional to the PSI rating multiplied by the GPM. While the higher pressure might not be necessary for the tasks you are considering, the added cleaning power means you'll get the job done faster with the more expensive unit. Keep in mind that you can always add distance to reduce pressure (back away from the surface), but you can't add pressure that the unit doesn't produce.

I have tried to use an old 1500 psi unit that I already had to clean a concrete driveway, but just purchased the 3000 psi machine from a home store, and the difference is amazing. My evaluation was that the extra $100 above the 2600 psi unit was well worth the hours saved. And the Honda engine gets very good reviews from most of what I've read.

I would suggest also getting the surface cleaning attachment, particularly for your wood deck. It's not really powerful enough for a really dirty concrete drive, but would surmise that it is sufficient for the wood (you don't want that high of pressure for the wood). For cleaning concrete surfaces, I highly recommend the Turbo nozzle; it takes the 0 deg pattern and spins it in a 15-25 deg (or so) pattern so that you get the dislodging pressure of the 0 degree, but in a pattern size that allows efficient cleaning.

I need help turning on a pressure washer?

Baked Toas

Sorry for the vague description but I got a call from a friend asking for help. Here is what he said to me:

It is an electric pressure washer with an on off switch on the device itself, and a reset and test button on the power plug. He doesn't have a manual so he is following the directions on the plug (press reset, power must be on, press test, power must be off) but it doesnt work...Can any one help him out?

Answer
These are usually very simple to operate;
1) Connect and turn on the water
2) Plug in the power.
3) Check that the power plug is ON
4) Turn ON the switch on the pressure washer.
5) Squeeze the trigger. This should start the washer.

If nothing happens, check that there is power at the electrical outlet.
If you have power, and still no water pressure from the trigger, then probably some thing is defective.

I manage a fleet of semi-trucks, and I need a fast and efficient way to wash them. It normally takes 2 hours to wash one truck with a hose, spray nozzle, and brush. I need to know if there is a portable pressure washer out there that can clean a dirty truck without the need for scrubbing with a brush. This should reduce the wash time to less than half.

Answer
There are many different models of pressure washers but without a brush you always have slight film of dirt. But if you don't mind a slight film of dirt it would cut your wash time in half or maybe less than half. I hope this helps you out.
Good luck.

what's the best way to treat a deck?

AvAtAr

I just bought a home and the previous owners neglected the deck. It was gray and weathered so I pressure washed it, etc. So what should I apply to the deck now? I'm not a big fan of maintenance so preferably something that will last quite a while without breaking the bank. Thanks

Answer
I am an engineer and my first introduction into this was when my buddy decided he would refinish his deck using his own "common sense" and cheap materials at hand. He ended up putting motor oil on the deck and completely ruining it. (He later saved money on lawn fertilizer by buying rotted waste from the city. Every time it rained it smelled.....well, you get the picture!)

THE BASICS
You will have to clean it first with bleach and a power washer. Let it dry. Your Home Depo has products to treat it. I would avoid varnish because it can peal off. A stain and an oil would be my preference. You will probably want to repeat your final procedure every one-two years.

But, refinishing a deck the right way is a bigger job than it may first appear to be. It will pay to map out what your deck needs and how much time and money you will want to spend first. Since the actual work is so time consuming and has to be repeated in the future, this step will reap big rewards if you do it right.

Really good websites that will answer these questions and much more are listed below:

http://www.motherearthnews.com/library/1996_June_July/A_Weather_Proof_Deck This offers a step-by-step guide for refinishing a deck. The guy takes you through his experiences and he is really good.

http://www.wired-2-shop.com/joneakes/ProductDetail.asp?ProdID=25&nPrdImageID=&CatID=1 You can buy a cd and other materials from this company.

http://www.topdecks.com/deck_videos.html This is an awesome website that has links to many others. It is really one of the best I have found.

I hope that you find this project as rewarding as I have. I hated the thought of refinishing my decks at first but it is really a pleasure for me now. Best Wishes!!!!

Cleaning a deck without a pressure washer?

Q. I have a small rooftop "deck" in Manhattan that is in serious need of cleaning. Being on the roof, though, I have no way of getting a hose up there, and if I tried, I'd probably be evicted. Are there any alternatives to spraying the deck with a pressure washer after using the deck cleaner? All of them seem very adamant about the "rinse with pressure washer" part. The deck is a 7' x 7' platform composed of 2 x 4's and rises about 7" off the ground.

Answer
You could use buckets of water and a brush. Or, seriously, try to time the wash just before a rain. I have done this with cars and driveways. Its the perfect season for it. Use environmentally safe products though.
Good luck.

How do I remove paint safely from asphalt?

We had a new driveway (combination asphalt and concrete) installed a few weeks ago. Our next project was to paint the large shed in our backyard. In the process, there was a great deal of splattered paint and drippings that landed on that new driveway.

How do I SAFELY remove these paint splatters/drippings WITHOUT damagine the new asphalt and concrete?

Thanks.

Answer
I want to assume the concrete either borders the asphalt, or it's a decorative effect combining the two in a pattern.

Either way I suggest a solution of Muriatic Acid and a pressure washer. By now (a few weeks) both mediums should be cured out enough not to be damaged, and in fact the paint will probably come off relatively easy. There is a possible issue however.

Some of the "Pigment" may have leached and "stained" and it may take more than one effort. Certainlt on the asphalt you can apply a coverup in the same basic patch type spray substance. You may also have to use a wire brush on the concrete.

I am torn between the LP020298 3000psi Honda gx200 residential model it comes with 1 year warranty and has about a 3.5 out of 5 for reviews at $700, and the PR-3000GH 3000psi commercial model comes with a 2 year warranty the same model comes with a Honda engine with the same displacement as the gx200 but I don't know if it is a gx model or not that model is also $700. then there is another model 50 bucks cheaper for a Subaru engine I'm thinking go with the commercial model based on the warranty but I'm not sure if there is a sacrifice in functionality. any help is appreciated thx -chris

Starting a landscaping Buisness?which John Deere mower?

Nick

Hi,
Ok I'm 16 and loving small Buisness and am the small entrepreneur. Got ebay Buisness and wanna do this now.

Let's cut to the chase! We moved to an area that has 1-3 acer lots. I wanna start a small landscaping/mowing Buisness. I just spent $400 on a Troy bilt 3000 psi pressure washer because I clean houses and concrete/deck floors and patios. Now am doing landscaping.

1) which mower should I get. The John Deere D130 or D140. I would get a leaf bagger and cart to pull. Or should I get the cheapest zero turn that goes 9mp which makes up for the 42" cutting deck. A few trees here and there from property but mainly flat and some declined tht arendt horrible like maybes 10 - 20 degrees. Dot wanna spend a ton of money but something that my 55 yr old dad can use when I go to college for our property.

2) the d130-d140 are $1,700 - $2,000. They only go 5.5 mp but hve a 48" cutting deck. Do u think I should go for zero turn or tractor. Would get bagger for leaves for the zero turn or tractor. The ztr don't have headlights? Am I correct? What do you guys think I should get. I also wanna get a jet ski and money for my Chevy avalanche . So for everything I want we are talking around $20,000.

Truck is a Chevy avalanche $15,000 used and tractor and trailer is around $5000 in total right??.

3) should I get open or closed trailer.

- I am very clean with all my stuff for example I wash my dads and mom cars 2 times a month and my bike 1 a week. And take good care so for mower I would wash after every day or once a week. What do you think?

- but really I would like a trailer to protect my gear away front he elements like snow rain hail, and protect it so it can't get stolen.BUTTTT NOTTT SOMETHING THAT IS TOO LONG CUZ IM A NEW DRIVER ONT HE ROAD AND AM VERY CAREFUL AND WANT NOT DENTS OR SCEATES AND RESPECT ALL LAWS SO IM NOT A STUPID TEEN TYPICAL DRIVER. But what you think open or closed? And prices for stuff too would be great. Thanks

Answer
Get the zero turn. The Deere has problems going up the ramp and can tip backwards. Goes much faster and is made for commercial use. It's easier to maintain. I just saw a used one for $1,700.
Get an enclosed trailer. Place giant signs with phone numbers on both sides and the back. Get the metal round lock enclosure to keep anyone from cutting the lock and stealing your equipment.

For twenty grand you can get a very nice used truck and enclosed trailer. Get the truck from a dealer, for the warranty.

Someone told me I had to be careful if I washed it with a pressure washer because of the electrical. What's the right way to do it?

Answer
Auto supply stores sell spray on garden hose off engine cleaners like "Gunk Engine Bright" "Motor Shine". alternators distributors and electrical junction boxes should not be directly sparyed. Spark plugs that sit in wells with long wire connectors will need to be blown out with an compressed air hose and long tipped air nozzel. Something are best done in a shop where there is compressed air and some one who is able to dry out wet electrical connectors. You might even be able to turn on your "Check Engine Light"

If I connect 2 pressure washer pumps to a motor, will I get double the output????? help?

wehaulmove

ok here is the situation, I have two 3000PSI pressure washer pumps, and a gas engine, If I took both and connected them to the motor, supplied enough water flow and used a coupler to join the output on both, will I get 6000psi of water pressure or will I end up creating back pressure and possibly damaging the pums, or will I get killed in the process.

I hope someone with an engeniering degree reads this, maybe I can get a valid answer. oh and forgive me for my spelling disaster here....he he he

Answer
If you have enough power in your gas engine to run both pumps, you may get almost twice the volume output of one pump at 3000PSI. For your next question, try the 'Check Spelling' feature located above the box.
