Pressure washer?

LA_08

I need a pressure washer for a mobile car wash what type of pressure washer should I be looking for (PSI,HP, and GPM)

Answer
For cars only you simply need a 2000 psi..You definately want one with a ohc engine on it..not the common mower type engine...Most "honda" engines on pressure washers are ohc's (overhead cams)..get one that has a gun that has exchangeable tips and not the ones that you twist the heads to adjust it...these bend and clog up and require buuying a whloe new gun... 5 hp is plenty good..3,5 actually for just cars will

Troy-bilt pressure washer repair question?

Brad25

The washer will not run when the water is hook up. If i disconnect the water than it will startup just fine. You can feel the binding when the water is on and hooked up when you pull start it. So given that the pump is bad. What is bad on the pump? Is the repair kits a good idea or just buying the new universals pump for 100 bucks? Any advice or experience would be appreicated.

Answer
when the water is connected to the washer try pulling the trigger on the gun without the washer turned on if water comes out keep the trigger held for a few moments to prime the washer then try turning it back on. if no water comes out of it at all even when turned off then it sounds like there is a blockage some where check if there are any filters in the pressure washer they are usually behind where u plug the hose pipe into. try screwing it off and giving it a rinse.

Also pressure washers should never be used without water connected to them as this can damage the compressor pump very easily

Will a 1750PSI attachment fit in an 1800PSI Pressure Washer?

heheman140

I just purchased used 1800 PSI pressure washer but I did not come with a variable lance, or a turbo lance. After doing some research I found a kit (in my price) which includes both the attachments and also comes with a new gun and a hose. But the only problem is that the max pressure is 1750 PSI for this kit. I was wondering if this kit will work with my 1800PSI pressure washer. I have attached a link below for the website.

http://www.pwmall.com/website/Nproductdetail.aspx?ITEMNMBR=OAK-KIT-2&BCATCHILDID2=1&ID=123464

Also if anyone knows any websites where I would be able to purchase similar attachments for the pressure washer, please post it.

Thanks
Thanks a lot fred k. Yes i am looking for a US supplier.

Answer
There is not a problem with the small pressure difference.
Pressure washers are advertised with a Maxiumum pressure rating but that only really applies to the best possible operating conditions.
As soon as the jet leaves the lance, the effective pressure is reduced. At the tip the pressure is enough to cut through soft materials but 5m away you will just get wet.
The only proviso is making sure the accessories fit the gun, but as you have chosen a complete kit there should not be any problem.

As the link is in $US, do you want a US supplier?

pressure washing my truck?

Insomno bo

1500 PSI power washers were on sale for $50 at wal mart so I thought why not, I'll pick one up to wash my truck. I thought it would make the job easier but it did absolutely nothing. I still had to scrub down the truck like I normally would for the dirt and grime to come off. When I bought the power washer I assumed I could wash the truck with little to no scrubbing. Not sure if soap makes a difference, I was using cheap simoniz car wash solution meant for pressure washers.

So what's the point of washing a vehicle with a pressure washer if it still needs to be scrubbed by hand? Is there any benefit to using one or should I return it? The only thing it did better than a garden hose was cleaning out my wheel wells.
so what do you guys suggest should i keep it or return it?

Answer
You cannot buy a pressure washer strong enough that will just remove the dirt. At that pressure your paint would also come off.

The point of a pressure washer is to get the dirt off once loosened. It also is designed to get the light dirt off.

Pressure washers use less water to do the same job as your garden hose.

How much PSI do I need for a pressure washer to clean black vehicles?

Derek P

Bought a crappy Simonz 1800 psi and barely gets the dirt off, just leaves streak marks, and thats holding it an inch away
yah but isnt high pressure the same thing touchless car washes use?

Answer
Not designed for vehicles.

The auto wash places have a combo of hot - soft water, special soap, and a set pressure. It takes ALL three to work just right.

Sorry.

What size o-rings come with the Briggs & Stratton Pressure Washer Pump Valve Check Kit #190591GS?

jody4041

I have a leak where the manifold connects and it appears to be a gasket or o-ring problem. The diagrams I found do not show a gasket so I figure it is the o-ring. I have not reason to suspect the valves need replacing.

Answer
i don't know what size o-ring comes with that kit, but if you don't think you need the valves, save your money and go to any hardware store. just take out the leaking o-ring or gasket, go to home depot, lowes, or hardware store of your choice. they all normally carry them. just match it up.

I have a pressure washer but I think my water pressure is a little low will this effect the pressure coming?

Curtis J

I have a electric pressure washer but I think my water pressure is a little low will this effect the overall pressure coming out it just doesn't seem to be as strong as I would have thought. Thanks

Answer
I agree with Chris about electric pressure washers. It seems the o-rings in the pump dry out prematurely especially if not operated over winter causing you to have low water pressure. This has happened twice to 2 units that the brand started with a "K". I was only able to use them one time each and that was when they were new out of the box.

I have a Coleman pressure washer that Coleman says is obsolete. I need a part for it. Where can I go?

ramsler

Model # pw0701210.01

Answer
Depends where you live and what part you need.

Its likely that some parts of that washer were used in other Coleman products. A shop specializing in small machine servicing (lawn mowers, compressors, golf carts etc) might be able to offer some suggestions.

I know of two such shops within 10 minutes of my office (near chicago) but if you live in a smaller city they might be harder to come by.

How do I clean urine and dog poop from my trek decking?

virgo63

Answer
Not specifically for pet stain but general cleaning tips for trex decking.

Problem Solution
Dirt and Debris Clean deck to remove dirt and debris. Soap, hot water and a stiff bristle brush are all that is needed.

Chalk Markings All colored chalk lines are permanent except white. We suggest using white chalk or baby powder. Scrubbing the area with hot soapy water with bleach may dislodge some of the chalk.

Visible Mill Markings The mill markings on the side of Trex decking boards are required by building codes. With careful installation, most mill markings can be hidden. Visible mill markings can be lightened with acetone.

Water Spots/Leaf Staining/Wood Tannins Tannin leaching occurs in Trex and all wood based products naturally. Allow for at least 16 weeks of normal weathering. This process may be hastened through the use of a product containing oxalic or phosphoric acid.

Pigment Staining During the weathering process, a small amount of surface pigmentation may wash off of the Trex surface, which may discolor neighboring surfaces. Remove with common rust cleaner.

Ice and Snow Calcium chloride or rock salt, available in many home centers, will melt ice on Trex decking. Rinse off when first practical.

Rust Stains, Ground-In Dirt and Grime Use a cleaning product containing oxalic or phosphoric acid base to lighten or remove the rust or dirt. Product may need to sit on stain 10-15 minutes.

Oil and Grease Stains Scrub in a household-degreasing agent as soon as the stain occurs. Rinse with hot water. For more severe stains call 1-800-BUY-TREX.

Berries and Wine Stains Mix bleach into hot water according to the bleach-packaging label. Scrub the stain lightly and rinse thoroughly. The stain may not disappear entirely.

Ink Stains Inks may be permanent. However, the stain may be lightened by scrubbing with hot soapy water. Rinse thoroughly.

Mold Use conventional deck washes or cleaners that contain sodium hypochlorite (bleach) and detergent (refer to Mold Technical Bulletin).
Treat with PSC Composite DeckAfterKlean (www.psc-solutions.com) to delay regrowth.
Periodic cleaning of your deck, even if it appears clean, is important to prevent the build-up of pollen/debris that can cause mold.

Pressure Washer Trex does not recommend the use of a pressure washer. The use of a pressure washer with a greater than 1,500 PSI and/or applied closer than 10" from the deck surface could damage the decking surface and result in a loss of warranty coverage.

Sanding Trex does not recommend sanding. Sanding will change the appearance of the surface of Trex material.

71 elcamino 383 510-488-262duration cam 144 blower th400 msd ignition want to change gears currently 4.56?

mark d

Iam running about a 2000 stall pulls a little when you put it in gear want to go to a gearset that will pin you in the seat a little and get a little better gas mileage currently get about 4.5 if your easy on it. Set up with 6psi boost on 8.1-1 pistons small valve heads casting date 1970 supposed to from a camaro. Any clue on what kind of h.p. 750 edelbrock carb mandrel bent pipe, headers and flowmasters

Answer
Your 4.56's are running the engine out of breath on the top end.. That combo aint gonna make power in the higher RPMs where the 4.56's will put you crossing the traps.

You have a mild cam'ed, 383 stroker with a small blower... Your engine is making the torque.. No need to try to do it with gears.

Your best gears will probbly be 3.42's to tell you the truth.. I would need alittle more info to be 100% sure though.. Like your rear tire size, and all the specs on that 262* cam (adv. duration, duration at .050", lope sep angle)

The 4.56's you have now will "pin you in the seat" the hardest on launch than any other gear, but it's killing your top end (putting rpms past the rpm where your HP peaks at) and also killing your fuel mileage.

If it's not "pining you in the seat" now, then you have some slight probs in tuning. Or your just boiling the tires off, no traction, just spinning hard.

I would also go higher on the stall.. That combo sounds like it needs 400-800 rpm more stall.. So a 2400-2800 stall converter.

Hows your tuning?

I love the edebrock carbs. I been running them and carter AFB (same carb as edelbrock) for the past 8 years..

Out of the box they have a few probs that needs to be fix though..

If you noticed the engine trying to die during hard braking or cornering.. Or a bog when you hit the throttle..

It's the floats not adjusted right.. Out of the box most was set wrong.. You need to adjust them to 7/16" at rest, and 15/16" to 1" drop.

The pump arm linkage need to be in the top hole as well.

The other major thing with them is fuel pressure.. 5.5 psi is max the needles can handle.. Over that and the pressure bounces the needles off the seats and trys to flood carb some.. Use an adjustable fuel reg inline with supply line and set pressure to 5.0 to 5.5 psi (I run mine at 5.25)

In most performance engines the step up springs needs to be changed out too.. The 7" HG pink springs work good in alot of set ups...

You really need to get your vac level though to see what springs you need though.

Also carb jetting.. Hows yours running.. Rich, lean? Your spark plugs are the best thing to let you know.. Read your plugs and jet till plugs shows you are just right.

What spark plugs are you running? I belive 1970 chevy heads still used gasket seat, not taper seat plugs.... So you will need the spark plugs with the large 13/16" wrenching hex, not the 5/8" hex and a washer type gasket on the plugs.. If you run AC delco plugs the # with be R4-S... The blank spot is the heat range..
Most roots blown engines will need atleast 1 step colder plug.. So an R44S ac delco plug or maybe 2 steps colder R43S.

Whats your timing like? The boost will cause detonation quicker on pump fuel, so you may have to pull alittle timing out. Try 34* total to start with.

Also set your timing curve so full mech advance is fully in at 3,000 rpm

what should I have checked when taking a long road trip?

Kevin

I have a 92 cadillac sedan deville and I am goin on my first road trip from south carolina to new york and I don't know much about cars, so I wonder what should I have checked on the car. I know I am goin to change oil and balance and rotate tires, but what else should I have serviced? Please help!!

Answer
Check the following:
1) oil
2) tires & pressure
3) coolant level
4) brake fluid level
5) front & back lights
6) drive belts for wear or cracks
7) washer reservoir
8) wiper blades

Then relax and enjoy the drive!

What should I do to my 1985 impala before I drive it to Myrtle Beach from Rochester New York?

Chris

The car only has 65,000 miles on it and rides very well

Answer
If you've owned it for a while and know it runs well then just do what you would do with any other car for a long road trip. I just sold an '83 Cavalier that I used to pull a small trailer between my house in West Virginia and South Carolina, about a 500 mile trip. I have a '94 Escort with 260,000 miles on it. I drive it regularly between the two houses. You know new cars break down too!

OK, check the tread on your tires and the air pressure. Check your fluids; oil, radiator, brake and power steering. And don't forget you windshield washer fluid. Keep your windshield clean so you have good vision. If you don't have one, an auto club like AAA or All State (mine) is a great idea.

Don't put a lot of emphasis on the '85. Take a look at the broke down cars along the road. Most of them seem to be newer cars. We have 4 vehicles. None newer than '97 and I wouldn't hesitate to take any one of them on the road. In fact we will be taking our '96 Rav 4 to Virginia Beach next month.

So make sure you have checked out the Impala and enjoy the ride to Myrtle. I would rather ride in an '85 Impala than most cars of today.

pressure washer runs for about 10 seconds then stalls, the pull string was rock hard afterward?

Brett

Trying to start this pressure washer (water hose was hooked up and everything), got it to start and it ran for about 10 seconds before it just stopped, sounded like the line was pushing water and getting stuck somewhere cause when I went to restart it the pull start was hard as a rock and when I finally pulled it something blew and water was coming out the bottom around the outlet tube, I had everything hooked up right I just wanna know if there is something else that would cause this
oh actually no water at all was coming out the end of the wand even if I pressed the trigger down

Answer
This is typically caused by a build up of pressure in the pump. Depending
on the pump on the washer, that build can be caused by a bad unloader or
even a stuck check valve. Please do not run the unit without the water
running, doing this can cause the internal parts of the pump to overheat
and possible become damaged. I would recommend contacting the manufacturer
of the pressure washer for a parts break down on the pump. Typically the
unloader and the check valves are simple to replace.

Why wouldn't a pressure washer be putting out any pressure?

Arch Bisho

I've had this pressure washer for 2 years, I just sold it and the guy says 'the pump cut out and won't come back on'. Its a 13hp Honda engine, on a 3600 psi 4gpm pump. What would cause a loss of pressure? If the pump seized, would the engine still run?
Its hooked up to a house spiket, I think it flows 6-8 gpm.

Answer
You didnt give much information as to what brand pump is mounted to the honda engine. But to venture an educated guess I would say Cam is right. The unloader valve is stuck in the unload mode. It could also be the "Easy-Start Spring" has broken and is locked in the start mode. (low pressure mode for easy starting of large horse power engines)

pressure washer adjustable?

slapoutz

do they make adjustable psi pressure washers if so where can i get one i want a gas i know they make adjustable electric ones. i want a 2600-3500psi adjustable.

btw 2600 psi wont strip the paint off your car. but it wont clean your rims lol
so if i buy a 3500 psi power washer i can get a nozzle that can take the psi down to 2600 psi?

Answer
Generally you adjust the jet with either replacement nozzles or an adjustable nozzle. An adjustable pressure pump as compared to a fixed pressure pump is certainly going to add complexity and cost to the unit. Buy the higher PSI unit and add distance and wider nozzles to bring down pressure as neccessary to protect delicate surfaces.

How to repair a Karcher HDS 500 steam pressure washer or manuals?

kathyannag

I purchased a HDS 500 pressure washer that I believe burns diesel. I plug it in and the motor that pumps the water seems to blast at the first pull of the handle then slows alittle and I dont know how the igniter works to light the diesel, its 110 volt, I cant find anyone who works on these in my area. Springfield Missouri, anyone HELP!

Answer
Karcher is a good name brand. Go online to their website and on the contact us tell them what you need. Many that I have seen run on propane, but if you think it suns on diesel, then you would be better off getting Kerosene. It burns a lot cleaner. My neighbor cleans professionally and he has a big propane tank in the back of his truck that he uses to heat the water. I worked for a propane company and the ones we had run on propane too. If you have a tank on it though and are having problems with it igniting then I would change to kerosene. I write to many companies and I don't have trouble getting help from them or manuals.

I am basically build a mobile detail trailer (but for personal use), what is a good Pressure Washer, generator that i should get. and is there anything else beside the water tank that i will need. Also do i need to buy the parts to hook everything together? Keep in mind i am trying to do this without breaking the bank. Thanks for your help

Answer
I think the first thing you are going to want to ask yourself is which type power washer you are going to want: a cold or hot water power washer. There is a big difference in price between the two, but most professionals that I know doing it full time start off with a cold water machine and as their business grows move up with equipment as most businesses do. Once you decide in type, ask how many hours a year you are going to be using this washer. Most homeowners use theirs once or maybe twice a year so a five year warranty works for them and they let price guide them as to pressures and brands, but if you are going to use this commercially the manufacturer warranty wouldn't cover it for long so you should concentrate on a machine that is more commercially oriented to last longer. The generator in my opinion if you can afford one is a Honda, super quiet and with care will last forever. Probably the best advice I could give you would be to see if you know anyone or their friends that currently own a pressure washing business and pick their brains.

Yes, just install the kits to convert them into sewer jetter.Set up your pressure washer outside to get started. Attach your pressure washer hose to your pressure washer and run this hose to the inside or outside drain you want to clean. Remove your gun/wand and attach the provided ball valve, jumper hose and hose reel. Install the provided jetter hose onto the hose reel and attach the desired nozzle for the job at hand.

How to stop humming noise from water spigot?

Tom Sellec

Purchased a drip kit for a tree that I am running off a hose. (I know it's ghetto). The spigot is making a humming/whining sound when attached. The hose is connected to the connector and then 1/2 in black flex pipe and then it leads to a three way coupler that connects around the tree with 6 drips. House was built in 1999 and this is on the back side of my house. The hose is about 20 ft long and the flex pipe is a max of 10 ft total.

The yard is undeveloped, but we have big plans. This is a temp fix until I can do it all properly and we want to get this tree going strong.

Answer
As there is only a small flow of water coming from the tap, the washer or jumper within it is bouncing up & down making the humming sound.
To alleviate this you may just have to install a pressure reducing valve which only allows a certain amount of water to be emitted from the drippers. That way you can have the tap turned on full bore making the pressure reducing valve to do all the work!

Cheers!!

Coleman pressure washer- Anybody have non-working one? I need a pump part?

Old enough

Coleman no longer makes pressure washers. I broke a very small part off my pump. Before you send your broken washer to the dump, I would be happy to buy just this piece I need or your entire non-working pressure washer if you are close to SF Bay area. Mine is the 4hp model but I believe all the pumps were the same.
I erred in my original post. The part I need is for the water distribution manifold (adjusting screw) and not the pump. The pump works fine and there is no mfg name on it so it must be proprietary.

Answer
the pump was NOT made by Coleman. there should be a manufacturers name on the pump. contact Coleman and see if they can give you the name of the manufacturer of the water distributation manifold.

I work on pressure washers for a living and see this daily! It's just an "O-Ring" has split and is allowing water to leak out. Find the o-ring that isn't an "O" but more of a "C" and replace it, problem solved! Sears has o-ring kits in the stores with several sizes of o-rings in it. Is it legal to use pressure washer to clean car?

pressure washer uses on Pressure Washers Things to Consider when Buying the Right Pressure ...
pressure washer uses image

Tom

Hi, I would like to know if its legal to use pressure washer to clean car on a public road ?

Answer
Pressure washing contractors do it every day, the legal issue has to do with reclaiming the water. Some cities are mandating that if you wash a car with a pressure washer, you must have a system to vacuum the water back up. They state that cars get many contaminants that should not be washed down the drain. Some cities will require you to pick the water up, AND have a special permit to do so. Check my sources- I have included a forum discussion on this among pressure washer contractors, and a document from the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services. Check with your county, city, and state for the mandates to make sure you are not breaking any laws.

is it okay to use reclaimed water in a gas pressure washer?

Have a fairly large gas pressure washer and wonder if using reclaimed water to wash the sidewalks would damage it?
Our neighborhood has reclaimed water available to each home for irrigation. A lot of areas in Florida use it for residential applications.

Answer
No there are no particles of matter in the water just waste treated potable water what I was told, I was also told it was controlled for irrigation and restricted for public use soooo where are you getting the reclaimed water from lol Isn't that like county and should be monitored? jk I can care less Enjoy. I just realized you ask two different questions lol. No Damage /Yes ok.

doesn't sound hot enough to be a problem for the washer if it has a brass pump, but that is hot enough to scald someone - a mixer valve were you could temper the water would be safer

is there a tank/sprayer combo with enough PSI to wash a car?

pressure washer 1200 psi on Mini Brute II 1200 psi 2.3 GPM Hot Water Electric Pressure Washer ...
pressure washer 1200 psi image

contact

I see that most tank/sprayer combos have maybe 100 PSI, which seems suited just for applying chemicals for agricultural purposes. It seems that most sprayers for car washing applications are at least 1200 PSI. I just need to be able to wash off top layers of dust and dirt and saturate a car for hand washing, but 45, 60, 100 PSI all seem a bit low to me.

Can I pull this off without purchasing a tank and a separate pressure washer?

Links would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Answer
Go to Walmart they sell various pressure washers of different PSI. I wouldn't get over 100psi or close to that, so you don't peel paint and blow window seals.

How can you adjust the PSI from a pressure washer?

Freedom

Hello,

I am looking into purchasing a pressure washer for various uses, they are pretty affordable from what I can tell, however for a few applications I need a level of pressure around 1200, no higher. If I use any higher there may be damage done by the water. Is it possible a pressure wand can have an adjustable max pressure? Or perhaps just being careful enough to keep the nozzle far away enough?

Many pressure washers seem to be in the 1500-2000 PSI range.

Thank you.

Answer
My parents craftsmen pressure washer has a 2400psi max pressure. However the wand is adjustable so the spray can be more or less concentrated depending on what you need. Also the engine has a throttle control. "Turtle" speed makes a good bit less pressure than "rabbit" speed. Also the water loses pressure very fast once it exits the wand so just holding it back a bit will be enough. Hope this helped.

What can I do about the hot water in my apartment?

K_Mdn

I moved in a few months ago and the whole time have had issues with my hot water and water pressure. It doesn't stay hot for longer then 3-4 minutes except on rare occasions an it can be anywhere from 30 minutes to HOURS before it warms up again. I've asked the manager what the issue is, he told me its because the washing machines take up the warm water and there is nothing he can do. There are 3 washers and 30 apartments. Two of the washers are usually broken anyway. This doesn't seem right to me and I'm tired of not having hot water to shower or do dishes. Is there anything I can do?

Answer
You have to contact your local code enforcement office and code enforcement officer in order to find out what the local laws are concerning availability of hot water for rented apartments in your area.

Once you do this the officer can contact the apartment manager and the building owner in order to bring the hot water availability up to code.

Have you heard any of the other tenants complaining about having problems with availability of hot water in their apartments, if so you can mention this to the code officer.

Good luck.

What brand and type and power level of pressure washer should I buy to clean OIL Stains off the driveway?

What brand and type and power level of pressure washer should I buy to clean OIL Stains off the driveway?

Would I need electric or gas powered? I got some tough stains on my driveway street area's that I want to clean up. My car USED to leak oil and I hate the oil stains onb the ground...They are kind of OLD stains and I tried all types of chemicals already to clean them but they didn't completely work. I want to try a pressure washer / cleaner now.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Answer
I bought a 2200 psi pressure washer a couple of years ago and I sure wish I had bought a more powerful one. I use it mostly to clean my deck and driveway.

Mine is a TroyBilt, but I don't think brand matters much.

I would suggest at least a 2800 psi or even higher.
Definitely get a gas one.
The electric ones are for girls.
