Pressure Wash?

Jon E

Can i pressure wash the underside of my BMW 328i? At one point in time it had an oil leak and now its fixed but it left all kinds of oil residue on the bottom of my ride. Can i jack it up and use a pressure washer on it or would it be bad to do? if not then what can i do?

Answer
Yes, you can pressure wash the bottom of your car, but you have to be careful with a few things. Watch out for any electrical connections like the oxygen sensor in the exhaust for example. Also avoid spraying at any bushings, bearings, or hinges since you could force water inside which could cause corrosion.

I greatly prefer using a degreaser like Simple Green and a brush with stiff plastic brittles. That's only a few dollars from a hardware store, safer for your car, just as quick as a pressure washing. After scrubbing, the residue just washes away with a light spray from a garden hose.

Good luck!

What's the best process for pressure washing a dirty driveway?

Me as Myse

half of it is on a steep hill. the other portion is flat.

Answer
If it's the kind of pressure washer that uses detergent (has a detergent reservoir), go to a home improvement store and get a driveway washing concentrate in the cleaning products section. This contains degreasers that will help take off any soaked in oil.

Also, if you have pooled oil (even old hard oil that's been sitting there for a while) and it's a smooth concrete surface, get a bag of Oil Dri at any auto parts store. It's like kitty litter, but it contains chemicals that absorb oil. You sprinkle it on the oil and work it in with your foot (with shoes on, of course). You then sweep it up and throw it away to remove oil stains. It even works on brake fluid.

As far as how to proceed on the driveway, start at the highest point and work your way toward the lowest point. If you use a detergent, be careful about the concrete becoming slippery. Also, use a hose to rinse it off with fresh water after you're done pressure washing it. And, while it shouldn't damage the concrete to use the pinpoint spray setting, use a couple inches wide spray. The pinpoint setting may cause deep cleaning in the points it hits, resulting in light lines all across the concrete. The wider setting will avoid that.

External car engine clean up?

Mario B

I own a 2004 Ford Taurus SES and I am slowly restoring the car to top condition. One of things that I want to do is to clean the engine (not internally) but the externally, so that not just the car looks great but the engine to look like it came from the factory. I live in Saint Peters burg FL and would like to know if anyone specializes in this. If so how much would it cost to do this. Any info would be great.

Thank you,

Answer
Degreaser and a pressure washer. Just don't get to close with the pressure washer and let the engine dry completely before starting again.

I had a slow hydraulic leak and the oil cooler is covered as well as everything else. I don't have a pressure washer but could borrow one but need some kind of chemical maybe gas to cut the heavy oil deposit loose. I do have an Air compressor.

Answer
use Royal Purple cleaner, var sol, diesel, Mean Green degreaser, or any foaming de-greasers. You can find any of these at any auto parts house or Wal-Mart. Var sol or diesel works really well when you are wanting to soak parts.Mean Green works good if you use the concentrate without diluting. And all your foaming de-greasers work pretty well too. just spray it on and rinse it off a few minutes later. However, make sure you cover any part that doesnt need to get wet. What works really good for me is to go to the car-wash and use the pressure washer their with the setting on "tire cleaner".

What is the best way to clean an engine?

planning f

I have a 2001 Honda Accord and the engine is getting a little dirty. I want to clean it. I know that i shouldnt take a pressure washer to it cause certain parts you do not want to get wet. Whats the best way to clean it?

Answer
go to parts store, by some engine degreaser, it comes in a big aerosol can, with the engine cold, spray it on nd let it sit for about 10-15 minutes, either with a water hose or a pressure washer rinse it off.
using a pressure washer wony hurt anything as long as you dont get too close to actually break plastic parts, or blow stuff off. also if you use hose or pressure washer, make sure you dont spray water into carb or throttle body.

I have a decent size gas pressure washer. It works ok. Is there any kind of degreaser or chemical out there that will clean stains, and some rust, and to overall "whiten" the driveway?

Answer
witch;s brew~ kidding~
on mine i first used cat litter as you know already. Then I poured a box of Baking Soda first then on top of this/Go-Jo Hand Cleaner,I let it stay on the stain over night.the following morning I poured a sm.bottle of club soda, took out a stiff broom and scrubbed it alittle then hosed it off.A friend who owns a auto parts store told me this is what he uses on his parking lot and home driveway,
With disbelief I tried it though ,You may like the results as I did. you ll be surprised!

Can you pressure wash underneath the hood of a car?

educated1

I looked underneath the hood of my car, and wondered if I could go to the car wash, and wash underneath the hood with a pressure washer? I've seen this done before, but I think there are certain area's you're supposed to watch out for such as the engine or something like that. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Answer
Nothing should happen by pressure washing under your hood. However i wouldn't take the risk. There is a chance you could water log your alternator, short some wires, screw up a starter etc. I would suggest a degreaser instead. I prefer to use Simple Green.
