I am leaking oil from my boat engine after I shut down.?

Timothy P

It dumps most of the oil into the bilge and is difficult to find the leak. What is the best way to diagnose where it is coming from without damaging the engine? It is a 1991 8 cyl. small block chevy 350, fresh water cooled, marinized by "marine power". The boat is an '83 26' Chris Craft straight inboard.

Answer
Can be several things,
Are you sure it is from the engine and not from the shift gearbox.

Oil filter (not tightened)
Oil sender, oil pressure switch.
Valve cover gasket
Oil pan gasket
Oil drain plug washer !!
Crankshaft seal
Dipstick tube
Distr cover gasket
ehhh...
I had a leak once and only when hot it dripped oil (1 per 5 minutes), it was the oil drain plug , it was tight already but needed another 1/8 turn to shut properly to keep the warm oil from leaking thrue.

Clean the engine as much you can
Shovel a piece of carton board under the engine so when it drips you know the point where to start looking from.
Good luck!
Frank

why won't pressure washer build pressure?

WENDY

Troy bilt 2550 psi pressure washer with Briggs & Stratton 6.5 hp engine. Working fine until yesterday. Began to leak oil. Later after I stopped to change locations, now it won't build pressure. Are these problems related? How to repair?

Answer
Sometimes the nozzle on the spray head is opened too much for pressure to build up. Try adjusting that.
Your oil leak is probably a seperate problem and much more serious.

Used diluted bleach solution in siphon for Craftsman pressure washer. Now it leaks oil, I think pump oil.?

tonymonton

Is there a kit to repair this? I think I'll have to replace the pump seals to keep the oil in. Called Sears. They said to bring it to repair shop. I'd like to do it myself. Anyone have this problem?

Answer
The bleach will eat away the rubber in the gaskets and seals. If they have kit to rebuilt the pump, that may do the trick. If not, it's trash.

Mercury engine block oil leak?

woodwoodbe

my car is leaking oil out every morning from this screw/bolt with a washer seems to be connected to the oil pressure sensor thingamajig but remeber the screw is on the engine and not the oil pan screw"lol" 1995 mercury Grand Marquis 187 555

Answer
if it screws directly in to the engine block it may have a small gasket on it,try tightening it,if its the oil sending unit on it you may have to replace it,fords and mercury would give problems with oil sending units, its not expensive though and easy to do,about 40 bucks for the part at the most, good luck and have a good thanksgiving.

Pressure washer problems......?

Bob

I have a Honda GC 190 Pressure Washer that doesn't start properly. Very hard to pull the cord. So I checked the oil and the oil came pouring out even though it was on level ground. Now I am thinking that I need to change the oil even though I just did that a week ago. The oil that came pouring out was very runny its like water got into it although I doubt that is possible.

My question is what type of oil should I put in it? (I had SAE-30 in it already)
thinking about filling it up with this --- http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/pennzoil-motor-oil/ID=prod6015629-product

What do yah think?

Also here is manufactures website. (manual)

Answer
I think your engine has a major problem. If there is any fluid in the combustion chamber, it will be very difficult to crank it because neither oil nor water is compressible. If more oil drained out of it than the amount you put into it, either water or gasoline is leaking into the crankcase causing the fluid level to rise up to the combustion chamber. It sounds (from your description) like it's gasoline leaking into the oil, thus thinning it out. Water doesn't dissolve with oil and usually turns the oil a milky white color which is easily seen. You can remove the spark plug and pull the starter rope. if any fluid is in there, it will be ejected through the spark plug hole. If so, you'll have to find the cause and repair it before trying to start the engine.

Leaking Clothes Washer?

CHECKMATE

If the seals are shot on my washer pump, will it leak when the washer is not running, or only when it is running?

Answer
The pumps will only leak under pressure when washing and disbursing the used water out of the drain hose. If the leak is continuing when washer is not in use then there is a bad hose connection or split hose is another problem.

The other is it could be the spindle seal of the agitator could also be worn out and this can be detected if there is any oil mixed in with the water on the floor.

If you cannot fix it yourself then get a repair person to fix the problem.
