Bought a Dewalt pressure washer, FedEx guy mistreated it, it was completely covered in oil, will it still work?

spidey

The seller started a claim with FedEx, but my main concern is the engine and pump. There is no physical damage to the engine and I wiped off most of the oil, I took the carburetor off, wiped and cleaned it using a air-intake cleaner spray can, and engine degreaser on the rest of the outer shell of the engine, I took the muffler off because it is still dripping a little bit of oil. I have NOT started the engine yet. what else can I do to insure smooth operation?

Answer
So far; so good. Now remove the spark plug and make sure you get as much oil as possible out of the combustion chamber. Pull the engine through a couple of times with the plug out. Then check the crankcase and make sure you have sufficient oil to safely run the motor. Check the oil level in the pump too.
If you even suspect that you have missed something take the unit to a small engine shop and have them check it over.

air compressor, and pressure washer? where can i find them?

sean l

im on a tight budget, and i need an air compressor and a pressure washer, but... it has to be (btw im using them to make snow!)

Air Compressor - electric or gas: rated for continuous use (not oil free) with a minimum output of 5.4CFM at 90PSI. (Minimum maintained operation pressure of 50psi)
recommended the SAH-5490AC 5.4 CFM Air Compressor.

Pressure Washer - any electric or gas: rated from 1.3GPM to 2.1GPM (more water equals more snow) with a pressure range of 1200psi to 2500psi.
what im meaning to ask is anybody know of these specefic items with those specs

Answer
I'm thinking you should be at your neighborhood Menard's, or Lowe's, or Home Depot or some industrial supply house, looking for these items. You'd probably have better luck than looking here.

pump on pressure washer seizes up?

Cheryl

I run the water through the pressure washer.
I fire up the pressure washer.
I pull the trigger and the pressure washer dies.
I cannot pull the cord again until I release the water pressure in the pump, and no water flows through the hose after the engine dies.
I drained the fuel and restarted. I tried to pull the trigger and gave it a little bump--on and off. The motor stayed running, but the water quit flowing. Is there some sort of a valve in the pump that I need to do something to?

Answer
How long has it been since you ran the thing? If you have bad gas or a clogged fuel line, the unit will start and even run after a fashion. But the moment you load the engine (engage the pump), it will die. Before you look to anything else, drain out the old gas, clear the fuel line, check the carburetor and make sure everything is clean - then add fresh *stabilized* gas and try again. This is such a common problem with small engines - mowers and washers in the spring, and snow and leaf blowers in the fall and winter that have not been stored properly that I expect many dozens of such questions over the next few weeks.

If this doesn't work, then look into the pump itself - but as it is building pressure, I am inclined to think that the engine is running lean or fouled and so cannot take the load.

Simply putting in fresh fuel may not be enough if the carburetor is fouled or the fuel-line partially blocked. You could run some carburetor cleaner through the system and there are fuel-additives that perform the same function - but the former requires some small-engine skills, the latter a lot of time - you may have to run several tanks through the system to clean the jets properly.

But, also read the directions that came with it for pump maintenance and sequence-of-operations. It may be as simple as an adjustment of the pressure switch.

What is best water pump for inflow of water for a Gas pressure washer?

Sergio M

I need to feed water into the pressure washer using a still water tank in a van. There are two types of water pumps: Continuous flow and On-Demand.

If i am squeezing the trigger on the pressure washer, I can see the continuous flow pump working best but what if I am NOT squeezing the trigger? What happens? Will it damage the water pump?

An On-Demand pump hiccups between trigger squeezes and I am running the pressure washer "dry" which could damage it. See my question?
The use of the pump would be to rinse a car. (allow time for us to suds and sponge) then rinse.

One alternative I see is to just continually power off the 12V pump and Gas pressure washer Engine to prevent damage. and I see a continuous flow working best.

To comment on your water relief inlet. I don't deem it necessary as we will just be using a few gallons before shut down.

Any new thoughts?

Answer
Your problem doesn't have a simple answer.
You would be wise to contact the pressure washer manufacturer's tech support for pump recommendations. Be prepared to give them the model of your unit, the size of your tank, and the length of time you need to use it continuously.
A constant displacement pump would require a relief valve which returns surplus to the tank for continuous operation. A centrifugal pump would not require relief for continuous operation, but would have to be sized accurately for the task.
A demand pump might not meet the washer manufacturer's requirements.
The manufacturer probably has economical solutions.

Help, I have lost water pressure.?

Crazy coll

Today I had to bypass my water softener because its drain hose became disconnected and was draining into my house. When I fixed the problem and put the water softener back in series with the lines, I lost pressure. I have about a 30 gallon Tank Mate reservoir tank and my pump output pressure gage says 60 lbs. I don't know what the problem is, please help.
Right now I have it the water softener in bypass and the pressure has not gone back up.
I have checked the water pressure in every faucet in my house including the bath tubs, that have no aerators. The pressure is definately low. I am not sure how to locate the drain valve.

Answer
I feel fairly confident in saying that by turning the water off and then on again you have dislodged enough sediment to clog a screen or filter. The question is which one or maybe all of them.

Start at the various sinks and unscrew the aerater at the end. ...lots of little pieces to clean out. Shower heads can also be cleaned out.

If you have a whole house filter it should be before the water softener and should not be a problem. You might take this time to change it because you have had problems that it should help to avoid.

The water softener itself has filters. Normally these should be serviced once a year and they are cleaned out. Without knowing your particular brand it is difficult to suggest a plan of attack. If you have a service contract you might have them in for service. If you have a parts schematic you might be able to do the service. Paperwork may also describe how it is done. On line you might be able to get the same.

I have worked with a Q-tip and some alcohol for this operation.

Edit____________
OK since you don't seem to be having problems elsewhere:

The other possibility is a jammed gate valve. Gate valves have a habit of breaking. They can break closed, open or partially open. In my neighborhood gate valves were often the main valve that enters the house. I avoid touching them for this reason. A broken one is a real pain in the neck if it is the first valve for the incoming water.

Household valves come in a variety of flavors. The basics are:

1 ball valves which are the most modern with a handle, can have full flow when open usually 90 deg apart.
2 gate valves which have a gate that goes up and down but no washers, they tend to be a little taller than other valves.
3 globe valves have a washer and a seat, are one directional and were once very common valves. There is a very roughly "globe" shape at the bottem and an arrow on the outside.
After this it is mosly the outside that changes...
4. hose valves have washers and a hose connection
5. boiler valves with big washer and a union attached...
and many others.
Connections can be compression, threaded, glued or sweat.

Try to work back to a position in the lines where the pressure is OK. This is hard to suggest without seeing your system. If you are not able to deal with this you will have to get a plumber to help.

Is it possible to convert a pressure washer into a flamethrower?

Philip C.

Do most commercial pressure washers leak? I don't want to run the risk of a tank full of alcohol leaking on a portable electric power cell.

Answer
Wow.
Where to start?
I don't think the internal components are capable of withstanding attack from the alcohol which would certainly lead to leaking.
You need a way to safely pressurize the alcohol.
The tip and the nearby region needs to be heat resistant (metallic), most are just high performance plastic in a regular (non-flamethrower)pressure washer.
After solving those problems, there is the inherent danger of flamethrower operation and potential runaway combustion and explosion. I guess I would advise proceeding extremely carefully or completely abandoning this project to be safe.
