has anyone ever rented a pressure washer? where did you rent one from and about how much did you pay?

Mono

the home i am renting needs a good cleaning! so i was thinking of doing that this weekend. not sure if i should go to Lowe's or home depot..... thanks for your input!
oh yeah how did it work did you just hook it up to a hose? i have well water does that matter?

Answer
Most rental yards have pressure washers. Its been a long time since I rented one. I would expect to pay $40-50/day. It hooks up to a regular garden hose. The only concern is if your well has enough gallons per minute for the washer to work properly. As a painting contractor I pressure wash many houses and decks every year. My big pressure washer is rated for 4 gallons per minute, my smaller one is 2.5 GPM. Before I hook it up I time how long it take the hose to fill a 5 gallon pail. If it takes longer than a minute I know not to use the bigger machine.
I don't recommend the rotating tip for beginners. Its true that it can do the job faster but it can do lots of damage if you are not careful. Sometimes the rotating feature gets stuck and leaves you with a narrow high pressure stream. Play it safe and use a 25 or 40 degree fan tip. Keep the water moving without stopping in one spot. That can cause damage if the water gouges the wood.
Most of the houses I work on have well water. I find about 1 in 10 don't have enough flow to use my 3500 psi, 4 GPM machine. I have only found 1 where I couldn't use my smaller washer.

Where can I rent a pressure washer that's small enough to fit in a car?

Answer
you dont say where you live but most rental centers have very compact pressure washers available. some are only 2 1/2' X 1 1/2'. check home depot and or lowes. also check your yellow pages and call aroud.

Best cleaner to pressure wash a deck?

Butterfly

I'll be using bleach for the siding of the house. If I ask at Home Depot or Lowe's they will just try to sell me something. Wasn't sure if the bleach would harm the wood.

Answer
Glad you asked before doing. Bleach and other deck wash products tend to soften the wood so when you power wash you leave lines or "fur" in the boards. I've done at least 100 decks in my time, and I've found it best just to use the force of the water for an even smooth finish. Also it is best to use a real power washer, not a home owners special like those found at Home Depot. Go rent a 2500 p.s.i. at your local rental place, there only like $85. You will be so glad you did.

I am painting the concrete foundation around my house which has peeling paint. How do I prep and paint it?

trailhorse

I have to paint it on my home in order to close and get down payment assistance.

Answer
Sand blast method is the standard, you can also use a high power pressure washer to remove flaking paint. You can rent either one and in rental store the caters to construction.

Once removed go to Lowe's and or home depot and by water block paint.
What the realtor wants is the re Application of the water barrier. It is generally white but you can have the paint department add color. This waterproof paint acts as an additional barrier from moisture or mold to your walls of your sub basement and or crawlspace. This is by no means cheap. the water proofing is usually 70-130 for a five gallon container which doesn't cover two coats on most houses.

will home depot let you rent a small pressure washer?
Any idea the cost?

Answer
Hmmm this is weird it is the opposite here..Home depot does not do Rentals and Lowes does...but if neither one does in your town Sherwin williams paint store does..You have an option of half day or full day rentals..but here is a clue for you..if you find a place that rents them aand are not open on Sundays ..go in on Saturday early and ask for a one day rental...Due to them being closed sunday it is not returnable untill monday..they do not charge if they are not open..I have seen this in 99% of any rental places I have used and I am a 37 year experienced painter..so I have rented them many many times...
