The second time I tried to use the Generac 5993 it just shuts itself off while I am up on the ladder and while I use it, so of course I have to constantly climb up and down to try and keep it working. I read all the instructions, directions, etc.
I also made the HUGE mistake of not knowing what if any return policy Pressure Washers Direct had before I bought from them. The policy is once you have used it NO RETURNS!!!

I am amazed that most companies do not know anything about their product or service.
The lessen I learned from buying my Generac on line and also from buying a BMW is that you should only buy local and from a dealer or store you trust!!!!!!!!! The BMW dealers are too far away and too few also.
If you buy non local: When you have problems or questions you have screwed yourself, because the Co. will not help at all or you spend far too much time and money traveling back and forth again and again.

The Generac does not clean the siding on my 2 story home. I am about 10-15 feet away on a ladder so maybe I need to get closer somehow or buy a extension of some sort. I have used different soaps and detergents both pressure washer specific and others to no avail.

Generac and Pressure Washers Direct said it was made here in the U.S. but I plainly see on the pump that it is made in China!
I did research of how to use a pressure washer and what to use as a cleaner before I bought this and it seems to be of no help in this case.
I also have a BMW motorcycle the F800GS and BMW treats owners like dirt. They have no interest in helping or fixing the mistakelemon you bought from them. I also asked questions about buying BMW accessories and you would think I was trying to rob them.
Apple seems to be one of the few Co. that makes a effort to keep you the customer happy.

I first made the mistake of buying an electric power washer from Sears. It lasted one season and I thought I was screwed. I returned it and they gave me a brand new one which also lasted one season. Finally I returned it and used the cost towards a sears gas powered power washer that has been very reliable and does a great job. Not sure where it was made but I would warn people not to buy an electric and if they want great service,,,, Go to Sears!!
Good luck

Ive been trying to find the best gas powered pressure washer in the 3000-3500 psi range. Going to be used to regular home use but would like to have to option of having the extra power. I am willing to spend the extra money on a better unit or brand. Ive been looking at different brands, and i see generac keeps popping up as one of better units for money. i also read good things about rigid. its getting confusing.... I want it to last, i want a good brand, and i want some extra power? Any Help?
Would you consider this to be a Good - Very good pressure washer. For home use as well semi commercial. and good for that price range of 800.

Answer
In general consumer grade equipment such as that sold at Home Depot or Walmart will not hold up as long as commercial equipment typically sold at an independent power equipment retailer. I would go to a lawnmower shop that sells commercial equipment and see what they have, the price is quite a bit higher but for regular home use you will almost always never have a problem with the unit for as long as you own it. Brands are pretty much irrelevant anymore in consumer grade because there have been so many company mergers. You can have one company like MTD making over 10 different brands. El cheapo pressure washers typically have Briggs or Tecumseh engines, I've been seeing many now with no-name Chinese engines on them, but good units almost always have Honda engines.
