Ok which is the most powerfulest gun available for sale? I tried to look it up in the internet nobody has a answer and all of them are old.

Answer
you can get a commercial 6hp pressure washer at home depot.. that'll knock the feathers off a canadian goose at 40 yards.... uhm... not that i've ever tried that sort of thing...

and, well, if you're looking for something a bit more mainstream here's a recent "buyers guide" from slate magazine - http://www.slate.com/id/2170024

what's the best way to treat a deck?

AvAtAr

I just bought a home and the previous owners neglected the deck. It was gray and weathered so I pressure washed it, etc. So what should I apply to the deck now? I'm not a big fan of maintenance so preferably something that will last quite a while without breaking the bank. Thanks

Answer
I am an engineer and my first introduction into this was when my buddy decided he would refinish his deck using his own "common sense" and cheap materials at hand. He ended up putting motor oil on the deck and completely ruining it. (He later saved money on lawn fertilizer by buying rotted waste from the city. Every time it rained it smelled.....well, you get the picture!)

THE BASICS
You will have to clean it first with bleach and a power washer. Let it dry. Your Home Depo has products to treat it. I would avoid varnish because it can peal off. A stain and an oil would be my preference. You will probably want to repeat your final procedure every one-two years.

But, refinishing a deck the right way is a bigger job than it may first appear to be. It will pay to map out what your deck needs and how much time and money you will want to spend first. Since the actual work is so time consuming and has to be repeated in the future, this step will reap big rewards if you do it right.

Really good websites that will answer these questions and much more are listed below:

http://www.motherearthnews.com/library/1996_June_July/A_Weather_Proof_Deck This offers a step-by-step guide for refinishing a deck. The guy takes you through his experiences and he is really good.

http://www.wired-2-shop.com/joneakes/ProductDetail.asp?ProdID=25&nPrdImageID=&CatID=1 You can buy a cd and other materials from this company.

http://www.topdecks.com/deck_videos.html This is an awesome website that has links to many others. It is really one of the best I have found.

I hope that you find this project as rewarding as I have. I hated the thought of refinishing my decks at first but it is really a pleasure for me now. Best Wishes!!!!
