want to buy a pressure washer, but what to get.....?

jesse reed

bought a new 1979, 300sqft home. siding is stucco. The stucco is very dirty, so i need to clean it and therefore want to buy a pressure washer. this pressure washer wouldnt be for just this, but thats the purpose of buying it. i would like to have it for yrs to do everything form clean the house to washing the cars. want a simple one - nothing with 500 nozzel tips, ect :)
i was htinking electric for less maintence, but open to gas. looking under $300. needs a tank to hold soap ect.

also i was told that muratic acid(sp?) to clean the stucco - thoughts? i was thinking acid and water in a bucket, scub small areas then pressure it off?

Answer
A gasoline model would be best I have had more trouble with electric ones than with gasoline ones.

The kick-out valve or switch seems to go on the electrics, and then the motor stalls and burns up. Had three electric ones and all three bought the farm, bought a Troy Bilt gas model and have not had a problem I use it once a week, Bought it 3 years ago.

Wal-Mart has some gas models in your price range, with soap/chemical reservoir, make sure though the chemicals you use will not hurt the pump seals it will void the warranty gas or electric.

What psi pressure washer for exterior paint prep?

Brian

Im going to be repainting the exterior of my house soon and i need to get a pressure washer to clean and remove loose paint. I know i need to get a gas one because electric wont cut it. What psi will be enough to get the job done? I found a decent deal on craigslist for a 2600 psi pressure washer but is that enough for what i want to do or should i be looking into buying or renting a 3000 plus psi?

Answer
Any pressure washer will do the job...even the electric ones. The higher pressure will remove the paint quicker but will increase the possibility of damage to the surface. There is a definite technique to using pressure washers for removing paint. You need to be aware of the damage you could do before you start. Make sure you read and understand ALL instructions before you start and practice on a piece of old scrap before you start on the house. Kick back from the nozzle could be a real surprise when you are on the top of a ladder.
