How easy is it to fix a pressure washer engine that stopped working due to low oil?

Ben D

I was trying to fix my cousin's pressure washer for her and the only thing I could think of that might of caused it to stop working was it was extremely low on oil. I'm unsure of whether it stopped when it was actually on or she took a break from washing her deck and it wouldn't restart.

Also if something in it ceased because of the low oil could that prevent the pull cord from coming out all the way? It should come out about a foot or so but it only comes out 4-5 inches before it stops like it's hitting something.

So assuming it did stop working due to low oil and something in the engine ceased would it be relatively easy to fix? Is this something that can be fixed by just adding the appropriate amount of oil and then trying to start it a couple of times to work some oil into the engine?

Answer
So, what I'm getting here is that you actually have no idea as to why the motor stopped. Have you checked the oil? I'd think that would be a good place to start. If the level is down severely, it could conceivably cause the engine to quit. The sides of the piston chambers would become extremely dry, which would make it very difficult for the piston's rings to travel up and down inside said chambers. At some point it would do what is called "seizing up". In effect, since the oil is what keeps everything inside lubricated so it can slide up and down inside the chambers, is missing, the friction of those actions start to make the metal heat up and with the heating comes swelling. When the parts swell enough they just stop. At this point it won't turn over or do anything, and depending on just how hot it got it may never be fit to run again.
However, it may have just quit because it ran out of gas.
If, as you say, the pull cord only comes out a short distance and then stops, that's a sign,, along with other stuff, that says I've seized up. Sounds to me like it's dead. You may as well dig and hole and shoot itl.'

Gas and Oil in Honda Pressure washer?

nathan w

I have a Honda GX340 11HP pressure washer. I just had someone get the motor working good and fill all the fluids.

Should I use premium gas or regular? Do I need to mix oil in the gas? How should I store it after my May & June annual pressure washing?

Answer
Regular gas and do not add oil to the gas. Modern pressure washers have 4 stroke engines.

Make sure there is water in the water lines of the pressure washer before running it or you can burn out the pump.
