Kitchen Faucet - Low pressure when turning hot water handle?

Jimmy Z

I have a compression type kitchen faucet with 2 handles.
The right handle (cold) when turned gives normal water pressure.
The left handle (hot) when turned gives low water pressure. It takes 2-3 more rotations on the handle to achieve the same pressure as the cold one.

Is it a build up in the pipes or something in the stem?
what should I be looking for if/and when I remove the stem?

Pressure for both hot and cold are fine in the bathroom shower & sink.

Answer
It sounds as if your washer is getting stuck, it could be as simple as replacing the tap water, as they do break down with age and use. Do you have to over tighten the tap to get it to stop.

From the other information you have provided, it has nothing to do with the actual type of hot water sytem you have but it is an issue just for that tap.

turning off water supply?

Brad G

hi im a little bit impaired when it comes to plumbing- I need a bit of help here- I want to change the washer in a tap- so i turned off the water mains outside- then opened up all the cold taps to drain them- but now boiling hot water is coming out the cold tap??? do I also have to shut off the geyser

Answer
The hot water water is finding a path through a faulty valve (tap) washer to the cold water side. Since you shut off the main water supply, it can only be the pressure from your hot water tank. Open the drain at the bottom of your hot water tank to relieve the pressure from there.
