Recent low water pressure in house/yard-frequent sediment in washer hose filter-no pressure for yard sprinkler

DJ

First the water to fill the washer started running very slowly, then the garden sprinkler stopped working because the pressure is so low. This is all in the last few days. We cleaned the screen on the washer hose yesterday and today it is clogged again. The water heater is over 10 years old but this problem is so sudden. Also, we have a very tight budget and can't afford a new water heater, so if it might be anything else, we want to try any possibilities. All water valves are open. We can't see or hear water running or leaking anywhere. It's going to be 98 degrees this week and my garden is in danger of frying! Any help would be very much appreciated, Thanks!

If you're on a well:

Any recent heavy rains will stir up sediment and suck it into the waterlines, clogging the filters.

It could also be you have a waterlogged pressure tank, in which case you might be able to empty it out and recharge it (about 40psi) should do.

Not likely but possible, you might have problems with your pump, but, generally if you're getting water then you should be okay... However, you pump may have slipped or the side of your well caved in and that's allowing the sediment to be sucked through, that is if you haven't had any recent heavy rains.

Not sure why you mentioned the water heater as it eally has nothing to do with your problem (but your whole message is sorta cryptic, and reminds me of a plumbing test), but, if you drain it, it should get most of the sediment out, if not on the first try, repeat.

To fix the washing machine check unscrew the lines in the back of the machine (with the water off), and see if the filters on the intake are clogged. Do the same with the all the aerators.

Hope that helps.

How to convert pressure washer into water pump?

jjsschultz

I have a briggs 6.5 hp pressure washer that I was wondering if I could convert it into a water pump to shiphon water from a river. I got the go ahead from the mayor to use river water to water grass and garden but now I need a pump to get it a few hundred feet from the river to my garden. Is there a way to convert my pressure washer into a pump the can siphon the water out for me and pump it to where I need. I'm not worried about it being high or low pressure, just want to know if i can do this.
I tried to do what shiggity said but the pressure washer requires pressurized water going into the inlet it does not siphon from the inlet on its own, i also tried to "prime" it by filling the hose with water before sumerging it into the river but still no luck.

Answer
Attach a pipe to the outlet of your pressure washer.
Add a hose to the end of the pipe.
The pipe is so that your hose won't get damaged by the pressure as it exits the nozzle.
Run a hose from the river to the water supply of your washer. Don't forget a filter.
